New thread to continue from God those NoW journos were utter scum weren't they?

OP posts:
teejwood · 18/07/2011 14:21

ffs it's the olympics in a year - can they stop resigning now? i'm not saying yates shouldn't have gone - just that i'd like some experienced police bods around when we're going to be even more of a nutjob target, so if this is the end of it, it might be helpful...

mrsdonkeybucket · 18/07/2011 14:22

Oh, timing, Teej

Has he really ?

Well, good. Smile

teejwood · 18/07/2011 14:23

oh - so nosey about Yates i missed figgy's post. methinks she doth protest too much - otherwise she wouldn't have bothered posting her, would she?

teejwood · 18/07/2011 14:23

*posting here

MoreBeta · 18/07/2011 14:24

John Yates has just resigned as well. Sorry but I don't think he should have.

mrsdonkeybucket · 18/07/2011 14:25

Oh yes, and I also agree with TIANC words too.

'I think this is described as getting the government we deserve'.

mrsdonkeybucket · 18/07/2011 14:25

Why don't you think he should ? He should have been sacked for the way he's carried on, I suppose at least this way he gets a nice pension.

teejwood · 18/07/2011 14:27

oh, oh, BoJo is speaking. hold onto your hats, chip and triplets Wink

no, sorry, still don't get the attraction. still, it'd be a boring old world if we all thought the same Grin

mrsdonkeybucket · 18/07/2011 14:29

BoJo looks like a modern day Worzel Gummidge.

Grin
MoreBeta · 18/07/2011 14:30

I just dont think he did anything wrong.

bkgirl · 18/07/2011 14:32

Fantastic - Yates told lies to the Select Committee and he hung on as long as he could. He was an arrogant man who thought his influential mates at NI would protect him.

What has been worrying me is that Paul Stephenson was allegedly supposed to have taken on the that NOTW Wallis guy knowing he was good mates with Coulson so he could have better relations with No 10.
WTF - did you need a NI link to be able to get on with Cameroon.....that stinks. For heavens sake this was the commissioner of the met needing this contact....crikey it shows what power NI had....I wonder how much remains. I have a sneaking suspicion the old friendships remain surprisingly intact behind the official spin.ScaryAngry

mrsdonkeybucket · 18/07/2011 14:33

Don't think he did anything wrong ?

Everyone's entitled to their opinion.

Terribletriplets · 18/07/2011 14:34

Yay! Beenbeta made an appearance. Keen to hear him and the opinion of him.

(boring hijack not over. When I want to put a link on mn, I do it in the following manner:
in toolbar of Site I want to bring to attention
How do I do ditto on CIF? Not convinced I am clear about my query. I want to insert a link. How do I do that? Thx for your reply, Boswell, but I am not making my query clear. What do I do on CIF in place of link?)

Don't think anyone more ought to resign, but want Murdock main players to be tried. Definitely not Cameron. He didn't want involvement with NI but GO convinced him that the needed them, which has been the case from Thatcher onward.

Morebeta he gave assurances about wallis to paul stephenson. He didn't carry out a proper investigation, he effectively concealed evidence and pressurised the guardian to drop enquiries (without saying wallis was telling him what to do) for starters....

mrsdonkeybucket · 18/07/2011 14:35

I think there is 'stuff' going on that we are still not being told about. 'They' don't all carry on the way they have been and it suddenly just stops.

WTF is going on with the Police presented RB with nothing ?

All very convienient.

teejwood · 18/07/2011 14:35

you know, one of the brilliant - but facile - things about this whole affair is the way i end up with a new fave word of the day. schadenfreude-gasm and fuckastrophe were genius last week. today i am mostly really loving BoJo (as a word - see effective disclaimer in post above) so thank you for that, triplets!

Terribletriplets · 18/07/2011 14:36

(It happens on mn like magic. I put square bracket round the place I want to share. How to I do the identical on CIF? pm me if you can tell me. Multiple apology for hijack again)

ThisIsANiceCage · 18/07/2011 14:39

I'm quite worried about the additional day in Parliament. One of you wise people was concerned above about select committees getting over-excited and prejudicing criminal proceedings.

That will be true 100-fold for a Commons debate, where the members haven't all received careful, nuanced legal advice beforehand and are liable to just vent (I'm looking at you, Gordon).

OP posts:
mrsdonkeybucket · 18/07/2011 14:45

They are saying that it is only for them to discuss the findings of the Select Committee meeting.

Shouldn't be too long a session, then ? They'll all be off on their hols by lunchtime !

teejwood · 18/07/2011 14:46

oh sorry triplets - re CiF do you not just c&p the url?

HedleyLamarr · 18/07/2011 14:47

I hope this piece by Charlie Brooker isn't wheel invented.

MoreBeta · 18/07/2011 14:47

John Yates is due to give evidence tomorrow before the Home Affairs Select Committee. I hope he will be given chance to speak and that he will want to speak openly.

I do also hope that we will not see hectoring and grandstanding by MPs.

NormanTebbit · 18/07/2011 14:47

interesting snippet from The Yelegraph

Stephenson did the 'honourable thing' falling on his truncheon for employing Wallis - he is implying Cameron should do the same. No one in Stephenson's position or even a beat constable should accept that sort of £12k hospitality from anyone, it compromises them.

HedleyLamarr · 18/07/2011 14:50

Teej, that is what I did with the Charlie Brooker article.
