Looking like Mick Hucknall from the back? Blagging her 40th birthday party at Chequers thanks to Gordon Brown? Hiring a PR firm that also represent the Bahraini Government, Trafigura and the Belarusian dictator bloke? - Oh... none of those things are actually crimes.

I actually wish I could blag my 40th birthday at Chequers. Do you think if I ask Jim/Dave he'll fix it for me?

TheRealMBJ · 17/07/2011 17:05

It is very, very fishy, this being arrested before she appears in front of the select committee.

Oh and 'Hackgate: The Movie' - genius Grin (I particularly like Colin Firth is Hugh Grant)

TheRealMBJ · 17/07/2011 17:12

I dunno, if I were Jezza Clarckson, I'd be keeping my mouth shut about hobnobbing with Brooks, Murdoch, Cameron et al right now. Nice bit of gos about SamCam being a social smoker though Grin

BornSicky · 17/07/2011 17:12

"She was arrested on suspicion of conspiring to intercept communications, contrary to Section1(1) Criminal Law Act 1977 and on suspicion of corruption allegations contrary to Section 1 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1906."

From the guardian, so both counts!

TheRealMBJ · 17/07/2011 17:12

God, I must learn to proof read. Clarkson

VirgoGrr · 17/07/2011 17:13

Statement from the Met said:

"She was arrested on suspicion of conspiring to intercept communications, contrary to Section1(1) Criminal Law Act 1977 and on suspicion of corruption allegations contrary to Section 1 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1906."

That seems like it translates as Phone Hacking & Police Bribery.

VirgoGrr · 17/07/2011 17:14

sorry, x post.

Dont usually mind Clarkson, but I try to avoid him in print. That just makes him sound like a prize knob.

Chen23 · 17/07/2011 17:16

Clarkson's a cretin

If he doesn't think there's anything fishy / untoward in our PM being that close to the top 2 figure heads of an enormous and politically influential media organisation that have since been exposed as having made some incredibly damaging decisions then he truly is deluded (as deluded as call me dave)

noddyholder · 17/07/2011 17:23

I loathe him always have and his lording it on his crappy show. This has just confirmed it!

Terribletriplets · 17/07/2011 18:10

That youtube clip is fantastic.

If this was film, what would happen next? I keep expecting RM to have a heart attack, as the old guy at the end of 'Trading Places' did.

What happens in October? (apart from the rapture, again)

VirgoGrr · 17/07/2011 18:25

Perhaps he'll have a 'yachting accident'. Oh no, thats already been done, hasn't it? Wink

Terribletriplets · 17/07/2011 18:57

Or the end of, 'To Die For'. Nicole Kidman frozen under the lake, after destroying the lives of innocent victims, in pursuit of her media career?

mrsdennisleary · 17/07/2011 19:07

Wonder who is paying her legal costs and Coulson's?

HouseOfBamboo · 17/07/2011 19:08

Just seen this

Preliminary inquiry into NI by Fraud Office

MsMinervaMcGonagall · 17/07/2011 19:17

My lawyer friend says that now she's been arrested she will be able to exercise right against self-incrimination and, of course only coincidentally, will delay evidence of police corruption being aired.

edam · 17/07/2011 19:18

there was something on R4 news about Paul Stephenson having accepted 'hospitality' i.e. a stay in a health spa after her had a private op - but didn't quite catch it so not sure if it was from News International.

Ponders · 17/07/2011 19:21

oh it was, edam & for 20 days, with his wife. I meant to link to it earlier...

Ponders · 17/07/2011 19:23

\link{http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2011/jul/17/met-chief-faces-questions-spa\here}

'The revelations are particularly damaging for Stephenson because Wallis, known to his Fleet Street colleagues as "the Wolfman", was also retained by Champneys to manage its public relations. A spokesperson for the Met said the commissioner was unaware of Wallis's connection with the Hertfordshire spa when he accepted its hospitality.
Stephenson and his wife stayed on full board over a five-week period while he recuperated from hospital treatment. In a statement, the Met said the meals and accommodation, estimated to have been worth around £12,000, were arranged and paid for by the spa's managing director Stephen Purdew. The statement describes Purdew as a "personal family friend".'

My italics

of course he was, poor innocent Hmm

ThisIsANiceCage · 17/07/2011 19:28

I've seen more about Paul Stephenson - it was 5 weeks of intensive physiotherapy after a broken bone from cancer op, so not hospitality, and was paid for by the Met (medical) and the managing director of the spa, a personal friend of Stephenson (meals and accom).

Stephenson said it's already been declared to the gifts register, and will show up in the quarter just due.

The only reason it looks interesting is that the spa had used the PR company Neil Harris worked for.

Sorry, x-post.

'meals and accommodation, estimated to have been worth around £12,000' - I would call that hospitality, TIANC Grin

Yes, they say now it was a gift from a friend - when did it take place, & when was it declared?

HouseOfBamboo · 17/07/2011 19:33

Stephenson has just resigned
