story??? just found the story here .

Some of the commments from people about the story (which they apparently had at lunchtime too) were absolutely shocking - "it's disgusting" were among ones that stuck out at me. Not wanting to get into a huge breast/bottle/formula advertising debate about it (as I'm going to work tonight so won't be around to partcipate until tomorrow afternoon/evening.

But I'm sure it's attitudes like that which have a bigger impact on a woman's decision to breastfeed, than some formula advertising.

Gah. Ignorant wankers.

But you can't, IMO, separate the attitudes from the advertising - attitudes don't come out of nowhere. If formula was more heavily advertised, bottlefeeding would be even more the norm and breastfeeding would be even more "disgusting" to people.

I am so, so shocked. I actually gasped with horror to read this story. The bastards should be sacked IMO. It's at total abuse of their position to abuse and harrass women and babies. I honestly believe they should lose their jobs.

HRHQoQ · 21/11/2005 19:14

Aloha - you think you gasped reading the story - you should have heard some of the comments which were read out - a large number supporting this poor woman - but lots more (including one "supposedly" from the woman who complained) basically saying it was right that it happened, and it's disgusting, and horrible and every other negative thing you could possibly imagine.

I know I'd have probably been sorely tempted to quit if that had happened to me while Breastfeeding DS1 - thankfully I never had any negative comments at all - and I wans't fussed where I fed him LOL

actually I lie - went to visit my grandparents and tried to feed him in the residential home dining room - a few of the old dears didn't like it so I was asked if I could feed him out to of the room - but they did also then offer to bring dinner up to us so that we could still eat. I was a little bit upset - but then I guess for 80 and 90yr olds it was a bit much for them and I got over it pretty quickly...ie 10 minutes LOL.

Roobie · 21/11/2005 19:15

Ooooh....I actually wish something like this would happen to me - I'm sitting here planning the stink that I would kick up!

roosmum · 21/11/2005 19:19

it's on news 24 right now!

can hardly believe it
what a shame!

roosmum · 21/11/2005 19:21

they just interviewed some old codger - who says he doesn't have a problem with it 'as long as [mum] sits in the corner & faces away from the general public'...

Tommy · 21/11/2005 19:22

It's not against the law to breastfeed in public What on earth gives those police the right to tell her to move? They should have told the complainer to move away if she didn't want to see it.
Attitudes like this make me want to whip my boobs out anywhere and everywhere and feed a baby all day! (My "baby" would be a bit surprised if I did it now TBH but I have another reason to get on with trying to conceive number 3 )

hunkermunker · 21/11/2005 19:22

And we don't live in a bottlefeeding culture? FGS!

HRHQoQ · 21/11/2005 19:28

yeah a bottlefeeding culture because breastfeeding isn't "cool" in soaps is it???? And don't tell me you can't act breastfeeding - if kids can do it with baby dolls adults can with real babies. the majority of times I've seen breastfeeding on mainstream TV (which isn't very often) it's shown in a negative way - restrictive, uncool etc etc

helsi · 21/11/2005 19:30

mmmmwe also live in a society where free speech is acceptable so these people are allowd to upset others without a second thought. shame really.

hunkermunker · 21/11/2005 19:30

I am a bottle feeder due to my own reasons but I have absolutley no objections to breastfeeding in fact I wish I could!

These days it is different to years ago as bras etc are so discreet (as if they should be) tha it is hard to tell sometimes if someone is brestfeeding or simply holding the baby.

I say carry on women - you do it wherever you want. I will join you and just whip mine out for the laugh!!

HRHQoQ · 21/11/2005 19:55

hunker - just read your comment are you saying my DS2 isn't a "real" baby

OP posts:
hunkermunker · 21/11/2005 20:00

What, he had a changing table?! OMG, how could you!

No, you dafty - I meant my babies - no room for one in our house

HRHQoQ · 21/11/2005 20:01

oh god no! I thought you were talking about the bottle - woulnd't even entertain a changing table - and we ditched the changing mat with DS2 when he was about 6 months old and had chewed it to bits LOL. Since then we just laid him on the flor

hunkermunker · 21/11/2005 20:03

QoQ, do you think I'm mental?! Calling a baby not a real one for having a bottle - blimey, would be torn limb from limb!
