Hi all I am just posting this in order to keep Joannes name in the public domain- This case is very mysterious and so far the police have no real leads although her parents suspect she has been abducted!

The link is below-

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1341106/Distraught-parents-Jo-Yeates-plead-help-finding-missing-architect-daughter.html

Hopefully someone has the information needed to bring Joanna hope safe and well- her parents are distraught!

I vote delete too. I joined the thread originally as I know the area and was quite shocked. Now I am embarrassed to be on a thread where people are being so ignorant.

Too late FA, the genie is out of the bottle.I do think though that people should limit their personal insults to a pm rather than detract from the serious and very sad subject matter of the thread.

Feenie · 29/12/2010 20:03

How is it oneupmanship? Mrsoo7 implied on numerous occasions that I was a troll, but more horribly that lovecat was aswell. Shall we let that pass aswell?

DeckTheHallWithBowlsOfPomBears · 29/12/2010 20:06

I can understand that some people find the speculation tasteless but it is only the same as conversations people are having up and down the country. Totally normal to wonder what on earth has happened to this poor woman and why. If you don't like the thread, dont read the thread.

poor girl and family :(

can i ask though, would the snow have preserved evidence or destroy it quicker? am hoping it perserved it, so they can be caught/

Flightattendant29 · 29/12/2010 20:20

I don't think Mrsoo7 fully comprehends what the word troll means, just as she struggled initially with the concept of blog/forum.

You shouldn't react overly to an insult if it isn't intended in the way it comes across. I think she objected to perceived censorship issues. Nobody here is a troll afaik, the word troll carries a lot more resonance than Mrsoo7 is aware of I think.

Again - can we please drop it.

winnybella · 29/12/2010 20:29

A lot of the posters on this thread indulged in speculation, true-but it was of the rather innocous type ie what happened to the pizza etc- and I don't think they were pointing fingers at the family members-and the ones that did got their posts deleted and rightly so.

So imo it's a bit of an overreaction to start calling all the posters ghouls and insensitive idiots.

We're all feeling terribly sorry for the family.

Feenie · 29/12/2010 20:33

Thanks, BeerTricksPotter. Smile

Feenie · 29/12/2010 20:34

And god, yes - delete.

Feenie · 29/12/2010 20:41

"I don't think Mrsoo7 fully comprehends what the word troll means"

I think you are right, and have just noticed that this appears to be her first thread. That is some brass neck though, to accuse a bereaved poster of trolling, especially when you don't really know what it means.

Sorry, FA, I will shut up now. Smile

We hop in and out. Wink

Another first time poster?

IMO it's very difficult to draw an exact line to define when 'decency' has been overstepped in a situation like this. Very often it's hard to define until someone actually says something that is considered to have gone too far, and then it's out there.

Much more offensive discussions are taking place elsewhere on the net, undoubtedly, but as a moderated forum MN has to protect itself from libel accusations. One aspect of this would be to consciously avoid speculating about the involvement of any named, specific individual.

I do also have to say - if it is MN policy that "we don't allow nickname changes for inflammatory, malicious or misleading purposes" then it certainly seems to me that in certain cases where posters are well known, this 'rule' is blatantly disregarded and no sanction is taken. A case of who you know, I reckon.

Back to the case: I believe the landlord has not actually said he can identify anyone, just that he saw 3 people leaving the block of flats - not necessarily Joanna's flat. So this could mean everything but it could also mean nothing at all.

What do you mean? I can't think of any circumstance where that's happened, tbh.

mrstimlovejoy · 29/12/2010 21:26

i lost 2 friends who were murdered in the 80's 3 years apart but by the same man [it was a very high profile case still talked about today]the 2nd girl who was murdered was a very close friend of mine and it still haunts me now to think if i had been at home [i was on holiday]she may still be alive today.
through people speculating the wrong man was arrested at first but thank god the evil bastard who committed these terrible crimes was finally caught
this young girl is someones daughter, grand daughter etc please remember that when discussing your so called theories.
lovecat i am sorry for your loss.
rip joanna

TDada · 29/12/2010 22:55

i vote delete too

lovecat and mrstim - thinking of your loss

humanheart · 29/12/2010 23:08

I am so sorry to hear of your horrific loss MrsT, lovecat and HM.

i live in the area where Joanna lived and know well the area she was found. I don't go to pubs and I live alone - I can honestly say I have had no-one to talk this through with (which is why I googled here). I have relatives, who all live in the area, but what with christmas and also said relatives being very distressed and also frightened about this (it cast a cloud over the whole christmas in bristol), there hasn't been the opportunity to discuss it re theories etc.

As a result, I have found this thread very helpful (apart form the bickering). It is natural in the face of the tremendous shock a case like this engenders to discuss theories in order to try to make sense of it, particularly if you are local, particularly in the face of very little being said by the police.

fwiw, the route she took from the Ram pub to waitrose, then tesco express (also baryah's re cider) is the logical route to take. Waitrose is expensive and you can get some choice things there (we only have 2 in bristol - the other is a long way away) which you ca't get anywhere else - she may have taken the opportunity while she was in the area (or the pizzas were too expensive, so she went to tescos instead). the route she took makes perfect sense if you live here. It was also dark so she would instinctively have used well-lit roads.

all of this the police will be looking into and also have the capability to test her body (bless her) for evidence re did she eat the pizza. the postmortem took so long because her body was frozen. I perfectly understand the very emotional comments made by her father - he is beside himself and probably not fully engaging with the horror of what has happened (that comes later, unfortunately - and is vicious Sad).

my heart goes out to this poor family and to all you's who have lost someone in similar circumstances. I have lost someone close to sudden death and that was bad enough - I can't imagine how awful it would be if it was murder. The suffering of those left behind is immense and goes on for a very long time - always tbh.

TDada · 29/12/2010 23:11

agree with those who suggest shades of Madeleine McCann re: needless insensitivity by some MNers

expatinscotland · 30/12/2010 01:50

I vote delete, too.

We don't have any idea who may have killed this poor woman, and of course the police aren't going to make everything public. Duh.
