Kate's been dropped by H&M. She was filmed snorting coke.

I just knew someone would come back at me with a 'let's legalise all drugs' response.
Really good idea.
Let's make it all legal.
All of it.

expatinscotland · 20/09/2005 15:08

What about the families of those who are addicted, irishbird? I used to be addicted to alcohol, and whilst I know it's not the same as coke, it was very hurtful to my family to watch me lose control of my life, blow loads of money on booze, etc.

Substance abuse doesn't just affect the abuser, but everyone who loves and cares about them, b/c they become slaves to the substance.

I hate coke with a passion. This attitude that because everybody does it because it is fashionable it is somehow acceptable. Can you imagine if we applied that maxim to other 'crimes' . The concept that if drugs were free we wouldn't have this is tosh - the impact of drug smuggling, the impact on our health systems and on communities and families ripped apart would still be there. I have so many friends who use coke and yes its there little hit on a Friday night (or any other time!) but what about all of the other people who are involved in that line all of the suffering that goes with.

Any way back to KM if I was know to have a drug habit and my employer discovered this I would expect to get sacked or get offered rehab! KM is a role model - she may not want to be, but she has made a conscious descision to remain in the public eye and therefore will inescapably be 'looked up to'. And yes she is a spokeswomen for H &M for rimmel etc, just as any employee of any company actys as their representative.

I have to add it is so amusing that the media is acting as if it is shocked. For me 'Model on Coke' is about as surprising as 'Model skips lunch!'

EnidPregnantandRanting · 20/09/2005 18:10

according to Max Clifford on R2 today she is about to do a big confessional/rehab thing in an attempt to win the hearts and minds of the public

[puke emoticon] even worse than doing the coke in the first place

desperatehousewife · 20/09/2005 18:20

Any 'normal' mother would have had social services on their doorsteps quicker than you can say "giss a snort". I think fame is hideous and think she is a twat. She is ultimatley responsible for a toddler (however much paid help she might have).

NomDePlume · 20/09/2005 18:21

Enid ???? PREGNANT ? Have I missed something ?

harpsichordcarrier · 20/09/2005 18:23

I hate coke too, it makes people so very very boring and has ruined many a good friendship.

having said that it is hard for me to get excited about KM as some sort of role model.
she wears clothes
she sells clothes
she says nothing, as far as I recall
she's thin
in fact I can get more annoyed about what a lousy example she is to teenage girls who weigh more than my arm
but even then, not much to be honest

expatinscotland · 20/09/2005 19:37

What a loser! I mean, yeah, it's so cool to snort coke, date junkies, get drunk all the time and chain smoke when you hit your thirties. Pathetic is more like it.

TwoIfBySea · 20/09/2005 22:42

Well it is interesting to hear takes on heroin addicts but really it is the little girl I feel sorry for.

My neighbours are heroin addicts and believe me their dds aged 5 and 2 1/2 know everything about drugs, police and things children that age should not know about. It is horrible to see and despite all this social services have left those poor girls to be dragged up by their no-hope parents. By that they roam the streets all day, the older one goes to school every so often but, you know, when you are on drugs getting up early is so very difficult. The people who hang out at the house, though a lot less after we all complained to the HA, are the type you wouldn't want to bump into on a dark night.

JoolsToo · 20/09/2005 22:43

oh don't - its heartbreaking

Janh · 20/09/2005 22:43

??????

expatinscotland · 20/09/2005 22:45

Damn, Two, that really breaks my heart. Those poor girls. They don't have much of a chance. I think about how it's just the luck of the draw if we're born to someone like that, too.

princesspeahead · 20/09/2005 23:34

don't know what max clifford thinks he knows about it but she is not going to do a confessional and does not currently think she needs rehab. which makes her someone in the midst of a serious problem in my book, and therefore to be viewed with compassion.

I'm just surprised at the hooha - she is a model with a known wild party lifestyle who has attempted to dry out before and who is going out with a heroin addict and coke head. Why all the excitement? The only new thing about all of this is that she has been captured on film. So the feeding frenzy begins...

Toothache · 21/09/2005 09:11

Can I add to the posts saying Enid Pregnant and Ranting????????

EH???????????

expatinscotland · 21/09/2005 09:19

Looks like the police are investigating.

police this time.

aelita · 21/09/2005 11:05

If she's about to do a 'confessional' it may well be that she's being strongarmed by the tabloids into doing it, i.e. 'we end the career-damaging stories if you give us a 'Kate opens her heart' story. I think she's being crucified by the Mirror and other papers because she hasn't given them what they wanted in the past, namely interviews, she's a woman, she made a big f**ing mistake in hooking up with that fool Doherty and she was stupid enough to sue the Mirror over their last Kate-on-Coke story. Her number was up when she won that libel case.
Whatever your stance on her taking drugs & her parenting skills, the hypocrisy of the likes of the Mirror, the Mail and the Sun is breathtaking. Those journos take as many drugs as they can, believe me! These moral guardians of ours have feet entirely made of clay, and they'd give their eye-teeth to have her lifestyle...and don't think they'd make better choices given her opportunities!

Boohoo. She chose to take an illegal drug and was stupid enough to do it in a place where she might be caught. She gets what she has coming.

SoupDragon · 21/09/2005 11:35

Don't forget that I bet KM has a nanny looking after her daughter. She's not (necessarily) taking drugs in front of her, nor is she endangering her life.

H&M were right to drop her IMO because of the average age of their customer base/target customers. "knowing" that a model probably uses drugs is one thing, having it splashed across the press is another.

expatinscotland · 21/09/2005 11:48

And let's not forget that coke is a Class A drug and an illegal substance. For a reason. It makes people do things like hold people like me up at gunpoint so they can get money for a high.

ark · 21/09/2005 12:36

As my mother would say love the person - dislike the behaviour! She is not necessarily a bad person becue she takes coke, but coke is not a great habit! As for coke not endangering her life.... I disagree - it is a myth that it is a 'safe' drug.

expatinscotland · 21/09/2005 12:41

True, ark, my life was in definite danger when a high cokehead pointed a gun at me and demanded my bag. That's when I stopped believing it was all just a bit of harmless, recreational fun.

ark · 21/09/2005 12:58

It is lovely to find somebody who holds a similar opinion I was beginning to wonder if I was a prude!! However when you have nursed somebody dear to you in intensive care for 2 weeks as a direct result of their drug habit (predominantly coke) then you perspective certainly changes and you don't really care what people think!

I don't want to appear like an 'Outraged of Fleet type tabloid reader' however from the age of 11 I have been totally surroundedby a drugs culture and watched many dear friends destroy their lives and relationships and maybe that is an extreme experience. but just because x is middle class and only uses on a Friday doesn't make them immune from the dangers of class A drugs!

princesspeahead · 21/09/2005 13:01

I know two people, aged 30 and 42 (he had 3 kids and was supposedly superfit and sporty), who have died of heart attacks in the last 3 weeks. They were both coke users.

Coke puts an enormous strain on the heart, it is NOT a safe drug.
