Has anyone seen the young Tories in the crowd/being interviewed?

I thought William Hague at 16 was bad

What about the nom doms?

claig · 06/10/2010 15:16

Never has so much sense been spoken by a politician as what is being said today by David Cameron.

We are hearing the truth, something which is very rare from a politician. We are hearing about duty and service and about people who really care for the country. These concepts are foreign to Labour and is the reason that they grate with Labour supporters. Let us hear out the rest of the speech, more wisdom will surely follow.

fizzledrizzle · 06/10/2010 15:17

Hey he has not mentioned CB yet, has he?

How terribly out of touch.

At least they will a one-term wonder....

SingingTunelessly · 06/10/2010 15:17

Joins Chil124 in our lonely corner on MN. Smile Where are the other Conservative supporters?! Could have sworn this place was fairly even split but never seems like it.

claig · 06/10/2010 15:19

"Could have sworn this place was fairly even split but never seems like it."

this place has never been fairly split, for the righteous are few.

Chil1234 · 06/10/2010 15:21

Well most of the threads these days are so much knee-jerk anti-coalition mudslinging than actual debate that if you happen to support what the government is doing you have to have a very thick skin. :)

Remotew · 06/10/2010 15:21

Ronaldo, my thoughts exactly, lets hope they are fully behind us and still shouting when they go for their real targets. Sad

LadyBlaBlah · 06/10/2010 15:22

It all sounds good - people must work etc

But what party didn't think that?

NOthing new

OP posts:
claig · 06/10/2010 15:23

The Tories have a thick skin because they have to bear the devil's arrows.

fizzledrizzle · 06/10/2010 15:23

Child benefit is unique in the UK as the only benefit paid primarily to women.

Chil1234 · 06/10/2010 15:24

"what party didn't think that?"

The party that made it more attractive to not work, perhaps?

LadyBlaBlah · 06/10/2010 15:25

You see, back in the real world

I have a business. Started this year. Got support from Business LInk. And a grant which has made a real difference

These lot came in and scrapped Business Link

How does that add up to what he is saying?

OP posts:
Ewe · 06/10/2010 15:25

Despite not being a conservative voter I was pretty pleased with the coalition at first, I understand that cuts are necessary, they are ring fencing the area of spending I most care about.

For me, the CB thing just made me realise how ideologically driven these cuts are going to be. Little economic logic behind them.

claig · 06/10/2010 15:25

"It all sounds good - people must work etc
But what party didn't think that?"

the anti-business party, the red-tape party, the regulation, suffocation party, the freeloading, sponger party - the Labour party

LadyBlaBlah · 06/10/2010 15:27

Chil - Labour's New Deal was designed to do nothing of the sort - as was the Flexible New Deal. People have to apply for jobs, they lose benefits if they don't demonstrate they are trying to get work.

Cameron is talking. But what is he actually going to do - is he going to let families starve? It is more complicated than he makes out

What is he actually going to do?

OP posts:
DuelingFanjo · 06/10/2010 15:27

Where are the jobs?
Oh hang on a minute, lets put women back into the home and then there will be plenty of jobs. Sorted.
Twats.

poppyknot · 06/10/2010 15:27

He's giving us Eric Pickles!

I think I will decline the offer.

LadyBlaBlah · 06/10/2010 15:29

The Big Society is the biggest bureaucratic idea of all - oh the irony

OP posts:
claig · 06/10/2010 15:30

"What is he actually going to do?"

he is going to invigorate the country, support business, improve education, stimulate the economy, remove stifling bureaucrats and reinvigorate the country. Basically, he is going to make things better. The negative cloud of socialism will be swept away, happy days are here again.

claig · 06/10/2010 15:31

yes the big society is a load of bullshit, so it really means nothing

LadyBlaBlah · 06/10/2010 15:32

By doing what claig?

How is he supporting business? I see nothing

How is he stimulating the economy?

Telling me how to think and behave in my everyday life is nothing short of extreme bureaucracy

OP posts:
Chil1234 · 06/10/2010 15:33

I'd rather have a big society where people participate and do something for their neighbours rather than a selfish society where people wait for 'someone else' to do the work and make the decisions

LadyBlaBlah · 06/10/2010 15:33

BTW - this thing about success and winners

Shorthand for " I FALL AT THE FEET OF FAT CATS"

OP posts:
LadyBlaBlah · 06/10/2010 15:34

And supporting fat cats and unfairness and bankers and dissing those less fortunate EXACTLY makes for a more selfish society

OP posts:
LadyBlaBlah · 06/10/2010 15:36

And I do lots for my neighbours and friends. I don't need some toff like him to tell me to do it

Makes it all the less altruistic and all the more disingenuous
