here

Surely thats not safe?! What about a matress??

Is he trying to make a pint that if HIS daughter can sleep in a box then surely all the paupers don't need 'grants' to buy cots?!

Hmm

He's trying to be 'cool'. What a twat!

melpomene · 25/09/2010 09:41

What about leaky nappies and spit-ups? wouldn't the box get soggy? eww

Panzee · 25/09/2010 09:41

I know someone who slept in a drawer for the first few months of her life!

BooBooGlass · 25/09/2010 09:42

That's a bit mean. The baby was born unexpectedly on holiday and their daughter decorated the box for the new baby. I'm no fan of the man, but a twat?? There are many mroe twattish things about himn than this imo.

ragged · 25/09/2010 09:43

We had DS1 sleeping in a dresser drawer for a while. No harm done .

TotorosOcarina · 25/09/2010 09:43

But Boo, they have been home ages now and he still puts her in the box!

awww that's quite sweet! his 6 year old decorated it for her

ds2 used to sleep in the washing basket at my mums house! lol

i bet they just put her in it sometimes during the day.

BooBooGlass · 25/09/2010 09:44

Maybe she won't settle anywhere else? My ds was a bugger for this.

IWillNotNeverEatATomato · 25/09/2010 09:58

although a cardboard box, i'll bet it has a mattress in it, and it may be quite a big study box
and the baby is so small still that it probably doesn't touch the sides yet,

so IMO wheres the harm?

warthog · 25/09/2010 10:01

sounds sensible.

Did you see the size of the baby - she's wee - easily would fit in a bo! None of mine ever had leaky nappies at that age and the spit up is dealt with by a sheet. I think this sounds hugely practical tbh. If Samantha is co-sleeping some of the time (post c-section and breastfeeding her fourth - I bet she is) then the child won't be in the box much and if she sleeps in it during the day and gives mum and dad time to do other stuff then I bet they LOVE the box Grin

CrystalQueen · 25/09/2010 10:16

It's probably a really fancy box from the posh stationers that SamCam works for, not some reject from Tesco's packing section.

bubbleOseven · 25/09/2010 10:31

What a twat!

Like he hasn't brought a cot for his baby Hmm

sethstarkaddersmum · 25/09/2010 10:41

sounds quite normal for baby #4.

bless.

arf @ it being fancy cardboard box from Smythsons Grin
I bet his daughter gets dead expensive glitter pens, probably with real gold in them.

Northernlurker · 25/09/2010 10:44

I don't think it says anywhere that they haven't bought a cot as well? Just that she likes the box. I don't understand why people want to be so pointlessly hostile? I hold no brief for him politically but I think he's a decent man who deserves personal happiness.

pinkbasket · 25/09/2010 11:32

Some people will criticise anything. The baby is happy, that is all that matters.

Oh I thought it might be one of those eco cribs or something - ah well when they're so little - if it ain't broke don't fix it..

HooNose · 25/09/2010 11:37

I think its sweet, and I still adore that photo of him with his baby.

I must admit though, I am surprised. I commented to dh at the time that I was sure they had aids with them on holiday who could be dispatched to nip back to London and pick up the necessary baby equipment they would not have had with them.

Love the story about showing his father upstairs at Chequers too. Some of you display very little humanity.

pinkbasket · 25/09/2010 11:37

Quick Riven, patent it!

Both DH and I have had ideas that someone else has come up with and made loads so we are pretty miffed at ourselves.

HooNose · 25/09/2010 11:39

Oh its free listing on ebay this weekend.

You can buy eco cardboard cribs from Mothercare I believe.

I think it's sweet although I also have no time for him politically. I do find the 'leaking' of the story slightly nauseating though

mayorquimby · 25/09/2010 13:24

How is it "leaking" the story. It clearly states he was talking to a national Newspaper. It's not a covertly placed story from "sources close to the PM" etc. It's direct quotes from him in an interview with the paper.
