Afternoon all

There seems to have been loads posted since I posted yesterday so apologies anyone I miss.

Swan glad the relaxed mood is remaining
Shannara Hello
Dlys great work today. Bet you are feeling really satisfied
Ruby sorry about your knee - I know how that feels after the last few months - Hope it gets better soon
Nutty I hope you are feeling happier - At least your boss told you and discreetly

Hello to anyone else

Money is tight here too since I stopped working. I've been trying to sort out student loan for tuition fees for September but Student loan company are making things difficult. I don't even have a summer holiday fund to dip into.

Well I ended up sleeping in DDs bedroom chair last night as DD wouldn't go to sleep and was up again this morning at 6.30 - at least we have had no more sickness and I called nursery and they let her come in this afternoon. She has refused to move off the bed all morning though and then it took me 30 minutes to get her to let me get her uniform off. When I got her to nursery you would have thought she'd done serious damage, hobbling slowly in.

I've so far today

  • Had a shower
  • Played all morning with DD - mainly me doing everything whilst she played teacher, mum (Anything she could sit done for)
  • Lunch for all
  • DD to nursery
  • Me to shop

Still to do

  • washing
  • sort ironing pile
  • Try to manage a run
  • Weigh in (definately won't be good too many ice-creams and lager at the weekend)
  • More sign language revision - last lesson tomorrow - then exam and done - yippee
  • Tidy kitchen
  • Mission - not even looked at this yet

Well my day didn't go quite as planned.. went to the park mid-morning with DC and ended up going to the in-laws until 9pm so when i got home it was very quick rush to get DC in pj's and in bed and now it is to late.. never mind always tomorrow

swan I am in a resort so I live on holiday
I cook with my slow cooker all the time and a gorgeous turkish meal called Guvec is great cooked in one. Basic and easy. 1 onion chopped up and fryed off first, 2 cloves garlic, 500g cubed meat (any) fried off first, put all this in, add 1 tbs of tomato puree and stir. add 1 chopped pepper, some chilli, 2 pototoes chopped in quarters and then 3 skinned chopped tomatoes and some stock. leave for the rest of the day to cook and serve with rice. If you want low-fat then don't fry off anything and use lean meat.
Let me know if you try it.

As for my list

Empty DW done
Load WH done
Cook breakfast done
Clean up breakfast done
Showered and dressed done
DC showered and dressed done
SS bathroom
Hang out washing
Tidy up toys
Leave to go to the park done
15 minute de-clutter
Daily mission

Bring in washing
Cook dinner
Clean up after dinner

hi all
I am still around, just a bit busy for some reason! Scan is tomorrow, will pop on to let you know. I am feeling quite anxious about it, I think scans are nerve racking! At least I'll get a date at last!

Otherwise, love to all, hope knee is better, Rubes and general betterness for you Nutty
Oh and I HATE phonics, OFM! I taught DS to read when he was 3 ( know you're not meant to!) and he has been able to spell perfectly ever since ... until he went to school and they taught him phonics ... now he spells everything phonetically instead it drives me CRACKERS!!! Have you got Dr Seuss which I find great? I had a very old fashioned book from the archive at the public library see linky www.amazon.co.uk/How-Teach-Your-Baby-Read/dp/0757001858/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1274815099&sr =8-1
It was simple and absolutely brilliant, and just required me to make a few flashcards. HTH

wendyhappysmile · 25/05/2010 20:21

Sorry, must be out of practice, did the link wrong!

OverflowingMum · 25/05/2010 20:56

evening all

ML recipe sounds yummy! I'm going to try it when I get round to it!

MC hope dd got on OK at nursery

swan lost communion books. You know they'll turn up the day after they've made it don't you!

ruby glad knee is settling, and gosh at dd's and innappropriate adult

wendy good luck for tomorrow. will be thinking of you.
Glad you said that about phonics. I've never liked it. As I said DS learned by keywords and did brilliantly. Then when dd1 went into reception they were ust bringing in phonics....always found it more of a hindrance really!
Will see if I can get that book from library-it looks good.thanks for link

Long day...
DD3 was quite needy...not much done really...mostly just ongoing battle with washing....
however she seems better tonight so fingers crossed will be back to school tomorrow.

right..very tired...early night I think
BBtomorrow

Wolfcub · 25/05/2010 20:59

wendy good luck with the scan
ruby I hope the knee feels better soon

made nice italian inspired tea and washed up and wiped the kitchen and have packed most things to go down to Ascot tomorrow. Sadly EHM is on holiday so we can't go for a drink. I'm just watching DH iron my shirts ready to pack.

dylsmum1998 · 25/05/2010 21:43

wendy and ofm I hate phonics too. ds didn't learn that way i taught him at home at 4 the way that made sense to me; i have tried with dd phonically and she doesn't get it i tried how i taught ds and she is getting the hang of it . It is one area of teaching I am not happy about I can't stand jolly phonics and don't want to do them

Mickeylee Govic sounds yum will try that another day

Ruby will tell ds to be extra vigilant

have finished my list for today, feels good to know i have done so much, am tired now though. my friend i was visiting isn't feeling well so we went to the library instead after school.

am now watching about the conjoined twins whilst doing some sewing.

Be back tomorrow

swanriver · 25/05/2010 22:40

Dylsmum - just watchng about premature triplets, made me feel so grateful
ruby horrid but at least you know about it
ML I've eaten it, but never known how quite to cook it, thanks!
Wendy good luck with scan

day was a bit pearshaped in the end
demands for leggings (ended up cutting a pair of tights), ballet shoes (had to snip as too small - she's given up ballet (school assembly) trying to do dd's blessed project, dh feeling ill, it's just feeling endless demands for things that I keep forgetting. The baby birds are going cheep cheep all too often

However I did read one gem from 1980 book on Homes which said that we now all have coloured baths and swirly carpets - cue picture of state of art 1970 house (these textbooks always a bit behind

off to bed, will pssibly forget less if I sleep well. Have also made dd write THINGS DOWN.

Good news, dss now bonding over football stickers, first time ever they have shown interest in anything footballian.

MickyLee · 26/05/2010 06:35

swan ew coloured bathroom suites.. must be a nightmare with soap scum

Taking about bathrooms.. on Sunday I ended up going to someones house for dinner. After eating DD wanted the toilet so off we go into the bathroom.. OMG you have never seen anything like it.. really! first of all i had no shoes on and the floor was covered in dark hairs.. it was like mission impossible tip toeing of areas where i saw no hair.. It couldn't of been sweeped for a month. then we got to the toilet.. poo all around it.. and black inside.. I airlifted DD over it of course.. then no toilet roll (no suprise there) as I turned round and saw the shower.. just a shower base and no curtain or anything. And to top it all of the sink had so much scum around it that our hand would get dirtier washing them in it..
I just can't believe we ate there.

ML enjoy your trip, I am glad to say my bathroom is not quite as bad as that. On the other hand I have found that slatterns often cook the most delicious food...

Meanwhile morning is not off to very good start, dh feeling vry gloomy/ill, has gone to work anyway
dd still demanding lost items from me (this morning it was a lost recorder practice book - think I am definitely cancelling the recorder lessons, she has never practiced in the last three terms - just wants to be in the recorder group with her friends really)

ds pretended he had a school trip at last moment at school gate to throw me into panic (no luckily not till June)
ds1 went to school in odd socks again despite me putting out omatching pair for him

nice quiet morning ahead, first recycling mountain
then going to practice the piano for two hours I think
then write dates in diary again
wash up
make beds

Dyls hope they enjoyed having a little furry visitor!
make supper/buy ingredients
dryclean ds2 jacket

wendyhappysmile · 26/05/2010 09:38

Morning,
swan LOL at your children's antics - did DS pretend there was a school trip really or did he get the date wrong!?
ML enjoy your trip away
dyls can't believe how much you have done by 08.18! Glad someone else hates phonics too! I am going to teach DD to read soon I think - she is 3.5 - DS could read by then, but his memory is phenomenal!
Wolf enjoy Ascot
Just pottering, need to do some Flying!
Still feeling sick and am tired today.

wipe down in back porch/utility

Jas · 26/05/2010 10:07

Morning all Ruby - I too would be very interested in some kind of book which would help my dd2 look a little more sceptically at life
She is 9 but we went swimming at the weekend and she made a friend - he was 16. I suspect he had learning difficulties, and their friendship was innocent enough, plus I was there with them, but it was very obvious that she doesn't judge anyone, and takes everyone she meets at face value. Fine on this occasion, but I am now more worried about giving her extra freedom.
DD1 knew he wasn't "right", but she just saw a new friend....

FLY wise, I need to tidy and hoover, plus check the mission before I go out for the afternoon.

I hope your scan goes well today Wendy

OP posts:
swanriver · 26/05/2010 10:16

done
recycling mountain kerbside
thoroughly swept front garden looks great!
thoroughly cleaned bathroom
avoided dcs rooms although all have made their beds [yay for football sticker bribes]
put out swimming bags for all, no more lugging around giant sacks of assorted bikini tops and no bottoms found several pair of lost grey socks amongst swimsuits

feeling refreshed!

swanriver · 26/05/2010 10:50

Wendy you may think I was being facetious, no I think he DID think it was today, but imagine only remembering at the school gate - that must count as parental windup musn't it? He actually waggled his finger in disapproval at me
And ds1 forgot to mention he was coming home at 4.30 yesterday after HIS trip, I had to intercept him at tube to take him to dentist...

Done
piano practise a bit, now off to make last attempt to trace communion books without having nervous breakdown.

OverflowingMum · 26/05/2010 11:31

morning all

swan no matter how had I try I always seem to foget ital items for school trips last time it wasa plastic bag for dd2 to sit on on the grass whilst sketching...min you doesn't help that the school release all relevant information in dribs and drabs...with most vital piece being sent on a small scarap of paper the day before the trip, that often never even makes it home

wendy good luck with scan.
We should form a "boycot phonics group" LOL DD3 has a brilliant visual memory. remembers all the details of pictures in stories etc...BUT she has sensory issues and struggles with distinguishing sounds in words....stands to reason therefor that she would learn to read quicker using a mostly keyword based approach....but what do school do??? Keep sticking her in booster phonics groups that are making NO difference at all to her reading ability ho hum

dyls sounds like you're doing well

ML have nice time away

right, well have been busy here today...have stinking cold, and ds being very whingey...but despite that was hit by sudden wave of enthusiasm and have done:

6 dc, up,dressed and to school
washing hung out
WM rebooted
DW rebooted and run
kitchen: surfaces cleaned
cupboards and doors wiped down
hob cleaned
windows cleaned
floor swept and mopped
Lounge: Tidied
Dusted
windows cleaned
bedrooms tidied
bathrooms S&S
dining room:windows cleaned
table wiped
floor swept and mopped

Paperwork sorted, payment dates for scout trips marked on calandar...he needs £50 on June 7th

so..now having (cold) cuppa....
then
lunch ds and me
dd4 to nursery
ds2 nap
hoover lounge
dust dining room

right...BBL folks!

OverflowingMum · 26/05/2010 11:35

wendy also meant to add that I also taught DS1 and DD1 to read with flashcards before they went to school. Then taught dd3 similarly as she was home ed at that time...now of course I have sent them to school...and surprisngly DD3 is struggling to learn to read...despite her pyschological testing showing she is of above average intelligence....reminds me why I used to Home Ed LOL
Ok....reading rant over LOL
