May's Fledgling Flyers: shed that clout May Flyers are out

elliepac · 28/04/2010 21:23

Welcome to the May edition of the fledgling flyers where we are going to merrily fly around the maypole, dusting as we go.

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

For those who are curious, these are the Babysteps, which we all hope will restore order in our homes and make our lives a little bit easier with lots of support (and chat, and wine, and a little more chat )

So please come and join us, old and new, from May 1st.

Evening everyone, still plodding on with coursework marking here so quick posting tonight.

biddy my house a bombsite too and I have no intention of doing anything as have too much homework to do!

chairmum how's that hospital bag coming on? I didn't do mine for either DC right until the last week after perpetual nagging from my Mum. Didn't matter in the long run anyway as both were 11 days overdue and induced so plenty of time to prepare!

sr how did the visit to the dentist go?

pa congrats on the win. Have never really got into ebay purely because I have never won anything! Hope the bike paraphernalia doesn't make your life more difficult! at DS and the pound coin! Made my day that!

missb glad DD1 enjoyed the concert, am very , quite partial to a bit of Westlife (I have the cheesiest taste in music in the world . Hope DD2 is ok for her D of E.

linzer hope you have had a fabulous day and enjoy your weekend away

dem hang on in there .

Big waves to everyone else as must get on with marking. Have had a stinker of a day today, combination of other people stuffing up and me having to sort it out and very naughty children (we have an isolation unit where the worst offenders get sent for a day to be punished, I was supervising there today and the kids were horrifically behaved and rude into the bargain. Makes you thankful for all the other lovely kids I teach though!)

Back to post steps in a mo...

Hello everyone.

Almost mid-month and I think we are all doing really well this month. RL will always mean that we can't get it spot on but I think we should give ourselves a pat on the back!! We also chat quite well as well .

Today's babystep is reading. Another one that I personally think you can take or leave. If you have 5 mins and a cup of tea give it a whirl, if not, don't stress!

The mission is here.

Have a lovely day everyone.

Ellie school kids a bit dementedbouncy in school here too, it was, surprisingly, a tonic dealing with them, especially as I saw that the usually calm TA was finding them a trial. The library was cmplete chaos very quickly, crayons being thrown everywhere - tis all the fault of the SATs, yr2 children being crammed into library so that they can d Sats in batches elsewhere.
Lovely coffee with a friend first thing
Dentist 5 mins early but dd has a big hole, so we are being referred to the dentist with laughing gas, so I'm feeling guilty that I should have supervised MORE tooth brushing and LESS violin, or get some sort of downstairs tooth brushing routine where I can see what's going on first thing.

Afternoon, watered and gardened a bit
ds1 helped with spareribs
kitchen tidied again
clothes put away in dd's drawer (not neatly)
uniform being washed fr tomorrow
dd has written some communion invites
I've ordered communion dress
rescued front room, and put library books in aBOX

Hpe your dd's FHC went well Linzer and a lovely family celebration too
Biddy oh The Road, a tale of sublime woe, v uplifting, a lot to do with scouring countryside for leftovers

DidEinsteinsMum · 13/05/2010 22:13

hands PA an award for ds for being creative in seeking entertainment

feetheart · 13/05/2010 22:14

swanriver - really think our school got yr2 SATS right this year as they were spread out over quite a time before Easter and no-one, least of all DD, knew they were doing anything other than normal work. Was V impressed

Quick post as have been browsing for far too long. Take a look at Bathing a cat if you want a real giggle

Not a bad day Flying-wise:

  • Morning routine - mostly done -
  • Chicken out of freezer for stir-fry tonight - done
  • 2 mins hotspot - no
  • Work - done
  • Chase HMRC re tax rebate - apparently they might be querying it and can take a year to do so
  • Research buildings insurance for (still un-let) flat - no
  • DS to Tumble Tots - done
  • DC to Hospice shop after school - weekly visit to spend pocket money - done
  • Kitchen and bathroom floors leftover from yesterday - done bathroom whilst waiting for tax office to answer phone, kitchen still not done!
  • Afternoon/evening routines - mostly done but need to finish washing up and shine sink
  • Bed by 10.30pm - if above gets done quickly!

Night night

LinzerTorte · 14/05/2010 05:32

Good morning,

Another quick post to admit to complete lack of flying yesterday - we did have a lovely day though (other than the major embarrassment of my mobile going off in the middle of the service). ILs didn't stay long after lunch as MIL not feeling too well unfortunately and DH's stroppy teenage niece was desperate to get back to her cat. Thanks for all your good wishes btw, including those on FB - I was very touched.

I've just got a few last-minute bits and pieces to pack and then we'll be off once everyone is up. We'll be back on Sunday so I'm hoping to get back on track on Monday - the house could be looking worse but I've got a lot of work on at the moment, and that's when I always tend to fail at flying so must make a real effort this time.

Hope everyone has a good day and lovely weekend (with better weather than here).

MrsDinky · 14/05/2010 08:25

Morning all, hope you have a lovely weekend Linzer.

Well, everyone seems to have been busy! I feel as though I have been busy but not achieved much, in fact feel a bit fed up with the house right now, I seem to spend every spare minute decluttering, but it's like painting the Forth Bridge, get one room done, turn your back for 5 mins to do another one and hey presto the first one needs doing again. My basic morning and evening routines are holding up fairly well but it's just the clutter, arrgh. Also feel that as a SAHM with DCs at school / pre-school I have no excuse not to have a tidy house.

Anyway, DS has got a rash so we're off to the Dr later, that means an extra half hour before leaving the house, so off to tackle those piles (of clothes that need putting away that is).

PA - if I don't speak to you before tomorrow, I was going to say may the best team win, but am not going to as yours obviously are the best team! Anyway, whatever, so long as you don't score 8 again.

droitwichmummy · 14/05/2010 10:19

Hello everyone! You have been busy. Spent all week dashing around so v little flying done. Got home last night around 6.30- earliest all week - and sat in garden drinking coffee.

Spent since 7 last night keeping Daisy cat in without food as she is at the vet today for her op, whilst allowing the other cat out and sneaking her some food! Daisy safely at vet now so can open the doors and put the cat food back down.

Morning list
breakfast (I'm up and dressed, DS at school and DCat at vet but somehow not eaten)
sort washing and put first load on
empty DW
do some work
wait for vet to ring...

optimisticmumma · 14/05/2010 10:56

Morning all - just a quick post to say I am still here but cannot prise the laptop off my revising DS for long . Will try to catch up and post later - he's going out!

biddyofsuburbia · 14/05/2010 13:46

Afternoon all!

Swan will check out that book! Amazon here we come - must remember not to spend too much I always get carried away!
Nettie great list yesterday - v. impressed!
Feet you've been busy too - well done!
DM hope Daisy OK when you pick her up, sitting in your garden sounds much more fun than housework
Linzer hope you have a fab weekend - keeping fingers crossed for the weather here too, I am sooo fed up of being cold.
Waves to Ellie,MrsD & PA & everyone else!

Today:

  • Take stuff to charity shop finally - done
-Food shop, for today only as can't think about weekend yet - done -Go to bank & pay in cheques - done -Water garden - done -hot spot in kitchen -done -paperwork/bills etc.- not done (putting it off - my least favourite job)

later:
Get DS & friend from school & supervise playdate. Try to be chilled out even though I find playdates inexplicably stressful. (Partly because DD always wants to join in but she's still a bit too little for 6yr old boys crazy games)

bath/bed etc. got babysitter (hooray) as going to the school quiz/curry night (less hooray, but I am hoping it will exceed my expectations which are low!)

Probably no time later to come back but will catch up with you all tomorrow. Hope everyone has a lovely day!

PositiveAttitude · 14/05/2010 16:10

DS very pleased with himself for entertaining you all yesterday. He thinks it was very cool to get some grins from saddonet mumsnet

I am going to be a bit sporadic for while as laptop at home is dying not so slowly, no internet at work still, so feeling like my right arm is being chopped off!! This morning I have had to do job number one from the office of job number 2 and running between the offices to get what I needed. Only 10 mins run, but a bit of a pain and it has really messed with my head having to think of one place working from a different office.

Spent half the morning looking on the internet for a new laptop and ended up more confused than when I started!!!

OM I am sure you understand my pain over laptop with DD also doing revision like your DS. - Only a few more weeks then they will be lollopping around the house, eating everything in sight at odd hours of day and night and generally making a mess and being in the way!!!! - Can you guess I have been here before with DD1??? Teenagers are a delight!!

MrsD - Here Here!! May be best team win!!!! Are you quaking in your boots? I am looking forward more to work on Monday morning when I work with 3 Pompey supporters who are so full of themselves football!!! Bets on how many are scored, I will start the betting at a bad day on 6. ANy advance??? - Although I might end up with egg on my face, Avram might pull something off to show Chelsea what he is capable of. I will have to come and offer my condolences as soon as I can get on the internet. Enjoy the game though - it could be the last for Portsmouth, couldn't it?

I have a lady staying this here who I dont know, doesn't speak very good english and I feel really odd in my own house. Only til Sunday, though.

Had a manic tidy round in preparation for this lady staying, but it was more a case of open cupboards and shove as much in as possible and just hide everything, but the house looks pretty good. - Only I know that next week whenever i open cupboards I will curse and swear away to myself when everything falls out!!

Got to go, visitor for this lady coming in 10 mins, catch up more later when I can access a working computer and internet at the same time! Wooooooo!!

Waves manically to everyone>>

Nettiespagetti · 14/05/2010 20:33

Today's babystep is bed making. Although this is one I always struggle to do (mainly because I can't find the bed in my room ) I do think it is an important step. It always makes me feel better when I do it. Now I know some people prefer to air the beds etc. so if that's you, then do that but the principle of straightening the beds out is a good one. Take no time at all (get dc's to do their own) and makes everything just look better .

No missions as it the weekend and family fly time .

Daisy is having a sleep-over at the vet House does not seem right without her even thought she is a very quiet and timid cat who generally hides upstairs. Op has been done though and she woke up after her 'special sleep' as DS and I are calling anasthetic; they are just keeping her in to give her some super-strong painkillers that must be administered there rather than at home. Hope to collect her tomorrow somehow - DH working and therefore has the car, DS has swimming lesson at 12 and a party 7 miles away at 4.30! At least we are not doing tour of family on Sunday so we can recover

Succeeded in doing all the washing today although none of it is dry and the washing up is hiding in the DW so that will do. See you tomorrow

Nettiespagetti · 14/05/2010 22:20

dwm sorry I forgot it was today her op! Hope she settles down when you do get her safely home tomorrow.

ellie well done on two hour house rescue.

droitwichmummy · 15/05/2010 09:35

Morning! Coffee in pot & tea brewing.

My gargen is festooned in washing - I let it slip for a few days and am inundated. The line is full as are 2 airers and the bedclothes are in the WM atm! Thank goodness the sun is shining.

No idea how we are going to fit everything in today - have had to tell DS that we might not get to his swimming lesson but that the party should be ok even though if we do have to go by bus it will take us an hour to get there.

Have a good family fun day everyone - better start on the ironing

elliepac · 15/05/2010 13:09

Afternoon all,

all quiet here today, am hoping that is because you are all enjoying some lovely family time. Been busy busy busy here today.

Have:-

been to pay childminder
tesco
washing x lots
maintenace downstairs
s/s bathroom

Just sat down with lunch. DD having a nap and DS gone to the park with DNephew.

dwm love the idea of your garden being festooned with washing!

Talking of washing have finally been and bought a rotary airer. Am so sick of the washing line in the summer and the kids running into it etc. Just need to get some cement and i'll be able to use it. Am a little excited, how sad am I?

Struggling a bit here atm if i am honest. Am just about managing to keep the downstairs tidy but the problem I have is getting around to actual proper cleaning. My house is actually dirty in places . And I am struggling to find the time to rectify it.

Anyway, enough whinging. Have got some peace an quiet so sod the skirting boards, am going to mnet and maybe have a little nap.

Have a lovely day everyone!

Hello all,

I've managed to go down with some sort of virus so I've been forced to rest. Of course I've had to still get the washing done etc, but sitting on the sofa watching TV doesn't create much mess!

No flying here at the moment though

missbennett · 15/05/2010 17:20

hello!
chairmum hope the TV watching settee-sitting does you good! Hope you're all having a good weekend.

Well, we are child-free for the next few hours
DD2 has gone to D of E practice camp - DH took her - she has a sprained ankle and was very reluctant but they've said she doesn't need to do the walking and seem to be being nice to her - and if I'd taken her she would have refused so although she clearly feels abandoned by me 'tis for the best

DD1 has gone off to play in a concert - but gone early so they can have KFC first or something like that and we have to collect her at about 10.30

So DH and I are going to eat out

I have got a load of washing up on the line and that's it. I've been at church this morning, after fat club (lost a pound )

But I haven't:
-hoovered
-done more washing
-dusted
-tidied up the garden
-tidied up the house
-decluttered
-washed kitchen floor

To be honest, I feel so shattered it is all I can do to watch Come Dine with Me and come on here. So an easy day today and I'll try and do a bit more tomorrow

biddyofsuburbia · 15/05/2010 18:20

Ooh missB you can feel proud because you've done a lot more than I have (i.e.nothing!)

Enjoy your meal out. Back later if I've got time.

droitwichmummy · 15/05/2010 20:13

Daisy is ok thanks Nettie. She has a 3.5 inch wound along her spine starting at her shoulder blades. Got to take her back on Thursday for check up and result of lab tests. Lump was so big the vet had to cut a small part of the muscle away!

All my washing is dry. DH got back from work really early (10.30) so he took us to vet, took DS swimming, and I had transport to get DS to the party. Leaving ironing tomorrow as it is supposed to rain and I have spent the afternoon gardening in the sunshine.

Will try to get early night tonight - see you all tomorrow

Nettiespagetti · 15/05/2010 21:32

dwm aw lil mite. Hope she gets lots rest and lots better for Thursdays check up!
