Ali about dh, but as you say thank God you aren't out of pocket, I really need to get my finger out re painting my bedroom still haven't decided on a colour!

Wasting I have 2 sets of curtains lying over dining room table, but I need to sort out curtain poles and then dh needs to find time to put them up

hang up wash
put on another wash
wipe round bathroom

Hello, I'm home! Is nice to be back but I'm sad that DH isn't here with me
He is about to take off to fly to Tokyo, he's in Kuala Lumpur (sp?) at the moment because he had a conference out there all last week. So Tokyo tonight, Washington DC by tomorrow pm and then the earliest flight he could get to Europe is into Madrid - it arrives on Saturday morning!! So then he will need to get a train or something to get home, it's going to be another 8/9 days before he is back.

Alice - I have a daily list, I find it really helps actually. Lots of things just happen on autopilot now because I do them at the same times every day.

JKS - that was good of your DH, glad you made the most of it!

Ali tell your dh to say hi to my sister for me in Tokyo!

Spent the afternoon down the cul de sac end of the street, saw wc's nan sitting
outside and dd said lets go to her house so we went down and said hello then realised dd's preschool friend lives next door but one so the dc were playing in the street with her. WC's nan made me a cuppa and I sat and chatted to her while the dc played.

But OMG dd's friend's house is THE TIDIEST HOUSE I HAVE EVER SEEN, like no stuff anywhere

Seriously their lounge has 2 sofas, a coffee table, a display cabinet and the tv in and nothing else-no toys, no cushions, no half eaten apples littering the floor . And in the kitchen there was NOTHING on the surfaces except a kettle.

I have come home and am feeling like my house is super cluttered and it's really not that bad except for a surplus of toys...

JustKeepSwimming · 18/04/2010 18:02

Freak - getting in with his family then?!
I fantasise about a clutter free house, esp kitchen counters! Then i think oh well i'll do it when the kids move out, lol

Freak its a good sign that you get on well with his family

WRT anal clean houses, a friend of mine has a friend whose entire house is in shades of brown and beige. There is nothing on the kitchen sides apparently, the kettle, toaster etc are kept in cupboards that is strange! My friend went over there and the friend was in the middle of doing the ironing, literally a board out and a couple of bits of clothing and the friend apologised for the mess!! Not Normal!

Tomorrow's list

Oh I couldn't relax in a house like that, so by that I maintain my house is very welcoming

Ali shame about your dh, but think how pleased he'll be to see you

we ended up with chinese for dinner

OP posts:
Alibabaandthe40nappies · 18/04/2010 21:06

Plum - he will be pleased to see me, but I OV'd yesterday so no baby this month!

Alice - that is just weird. For a start, there is no way I could fit my kettle in a cupboard because they are full to bursting with other things!

Freak I will tell him, he is due to land there in about 3 hours time I think. I will feel better once he is in the US for sure, it's so much closer and there is no language barrier for starters. There was a government minister on the TV earlier talking about sending the Navy to America to get people! DH would absolutely adore that

The painter is now not coming until Wednesday, which while annoying in some ways is good in others because I've had a more relaxing evening that I thought I would and have got completely unpacked.
I can do my cleaning as normal tomorrow and then I will feel all organised.

FreakoidOrganisoid · 19/04/2010 10:44

lol yes am worming my way in His nan is lovely though, I suggested to him that we swapped and he could live here with my dc whilst I stayed with his nan but surprisingly he wasn't up for that.

I plan to organise my storage a bit better this week, things are a bit shoved in atm.

Ali how long is he in Tokyo?

Alice that root veg and lentil thing plum (?) linked to ages ago is really nice and v cheap, I do it a lot. Also veggie stirfry/wraps/lasagne are yum and I don't really miss the meat in them. If I do curry I do a small meaty one and then dahl/sag aloo/chickpeas etc (or just chuck them in the meaty one if I'm feeling lazy!). Sainsburys had half price beef and lamb joints last week, they were massive so I cut one up, got 3 small roasting joints, 2 steaks and enough diced up for a smallish stew out of a beef one for only £11

Alicetheinvisible · 19/04/2010 10:52

Freak we got a couple of chickens when they were reduced the other week and froze them, last night we had roast chicken with new potatoes and green beans, tonight we are having chicken biryani. I am going to do lasagne this week and want to bulk it out to do 2nights (DH is more than happy having it 2 nights in a row) what should i bulk it out with? I use peppers. The problem is that DH forgets to eat during the day, so has huge portions at night and likes to have meat most nights. He is not really a puddingy sort of person either, so no point making puddings to fill him up (i just end up eating them all!)

Going to look up the recipe threads now, want to make some biscuits too.

FreakoidOrganisoid · 19/04/2010 10:58

lasagne I add peppers, courgette, lentils, grated carrot...whatever I have really. I probably shouldn't call it lasagne

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 19/04/2010 11:06

Alice - mushrooms and grated carrot v.good in lasagne/spag bol all those type of things to make more sauce with less meat. Also now that salad is getting cheaper because it's summer I always do a big salad alongside.
I do a sausage casserole with lots of kidney and canellini beans in it. We have it one night with some crusty bread, and then the leftovers poured over a jacket potato with some cheese grated on top. This is yummy even if you don't have any of the sausages left.

Freak - he was only there 9 hours, he's on his way to Washington now. I was half expecting something to go wrong, but it does look as if they will land there tonight! And then only 96 hours until his flight to Madrid
Can you tell I hate being here on my own? I am constantly on the alert for spiders and fires.

PlumBumMum · 19/04/2010 12:24

Ali hopefully by the time his flight to Madrid comes up he will just be able to fly home??

ALICE Don't listen to Ali, DO NOT put carrot in Spag bol/lasagne, It might as will be cattage pie with tomatoes in
bulk out with pepper mushrooms, sundried toms, courgette, aubergine and........................CELERY!!!!

I have been buying the filled pasta in Tesco it is very cheap and filling, just add a sauce and salad/veg, its handy to keep in fridge for an emergency dinner as it takes 5 mins to cook

Feel like I haven't done much today as I have been on the phone sorting out rates bill and organising BT engineer to come out to sort out line

Then realised need to get to bank today so will do that between school runs

Afternoon.

DH is away again.

Ali, will DH be able to have a couple days off when he gets back? He must be knackered.

I sometimes grate carrots into cottage pie/bolognese/chilli etc. You can add a handful of oats too, but not too much or it tastes like meaty porridge.

x-posts.

Wasting I am hoping so, the problem is that a whole load of them are all stuck together! I know that DH is travelling with 7 collegues, 2 more made it as far as Dubai and are now stranded there and some have hung on in KL hoping to get home by their original route.
It is a big company internationally, but the UK team is quite small and as far as I know no-one has made it back to London yet. So everyone can't have time off straight away which is a shame. He has already said to his boss that he wants to take a week off asap so we'll just have to see when it will be possible. He can work from home though, so he will at least be here and not having to travel about.

Alicetheinvisible · 19/04/2010 15:16

Oh dear, what have i started? The mince based meal war!

I usually put in finely chopped celery, garlic, onion in most mince meals. Peppers and leftover tomatoes in bolognese/lasagne, carrot/any leftover veg in cottage pie. Not keen on mushrooms but would eat them, especially if cut small. Have started a thread on stocking up the freezer for when i have had the baby, so i can get good ideas. I am starting on my 'big' lists atm eg;What needs to be done by week 30, 36, 38, hospital bag lists etc. Helps me feel more in control especially as i was in and out of hospital last pg.

DD has been driving me mad today. She is on her 3rd top after playing in the washing up water, keeps asking for things and then not wanting them, we made cinnamon cookies and she wouldn't eat her lunch because she knew they were there, but then picked up a piece of bread crust off the floor (from god knows when!) and said yum
