Fledgling Flyers - Mad as March Hares

MiniMarmite · 26/02/2010 20:07

Welcome to the spring(ish) edition of the fledgling flyers.

Some of us will be flapping falteringly and others flying faultlessly towards making our homes look perennially spring cleaned!

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

This is what it's all about - Babysteps each day to try to get some order back into our home with LOADS of support from our regulars.

So join in! We start this thread on March 1st, but you are welcome to dive in at any point in the month.

Hop along to reserve your place...

ladies, I have done NO flying today. DS in full on whinge/cry/howl mode today. He is currently whingeing his way through dinner.
THen to crown it got another job rejection saying I'm 'overqualified'. FFS, at least they know I'll be able to do the job and it's not like I've got a fecking phd in rocket science (or any phd at all). Feeling very down about all of it and wish DS would shut up whingeing now.

Littlepurpleprincess · 03/03/2010 18:54

Thanks for the wedding congrats! We are getting married in a hotel, in a room that over looks the sea, then we're having a BBQ. Big family tho so 70+ guests. 13 guests sounds lovely!

I am very proud of Entrance Hall to house today! It's one of my biggest promblems re house keeping, a total mess. BUT, it is now clean and shining, all coats and shoes are put away and quick to find. smug emoticon.

Also sorted out DS's wardrobe and got rid of a black bag full of clothes. All that's left to do tonight is go through and decide what's going to charity, what's been thrown out etc. I recorded Love Actually last night so think I will sit in front of telly and get the job done.

I'm off on a course tomorrow so leaving a list for DP to do the FLYING!

PositiveAttitude · 03/03/2010 19:00

QOD - Sorry its been a hard day for you. Dont worry about the flying (unless you are flying off to get away from it all ) it will all still be there tomorrow.

Nearly bed-time and a time for you to unwind and relax a little.

MiniMarmite · 03/03/2010 19:43

Good evening lovely ladies! My day off today so I had a fab day with DS .

I'm doing an early round-up tonight because I promised DH I would watch a film with him and then he's expecting a call to talk about a job possibility.

MrsD sounds like you had a good day yesterday, hope the same is true of today.

SR sorry you didn't have such a good afternoon yesterday. Eating more cake is definitely the way forward ...always does the trick for me!

Feetheart, OM and MissB well done on your joint paperwork efforts...even committing to doing some is a struggle for me - my pet hate along with ironing!

PMPY I'm just listening to una voce poco fa on YouTube...Erm, yes, challenging is putting it mildly!

OM - fab that your DD has been well for a year now

Ellie how was your day at work? Are the little ones settled back with the CM?

QoD sorry to hear about the job, so frustrating to be told you are over-qualified when you just want a new job

Jas tea loaf sounds lovely - puts me in mind of Mum's delicious malt loaf which I must get around to making again soon!

PA this is a KitchenAid - mine is a gorgeous red one like this...weighs a ton but makes the lightest meringue you can imagine

SC migraine sounds awful, how are you feeling today?

Aberita - SR's suggestion of hall declutter sounds good, glad you are feeling enthusiastic . LOL at 'find cat'!

Wedding plans sound wonderful LPP. DH and I only had 16 people at our and we had such a happy day.

Well, all round this evening, especially if you've not had such a good day.

Thursday's babysteps and mission:

Our baby step for Thursday is to write down the babysteps we have been doing. These notes will help us start to put together a control journal (for want of a better name) later on.

Decluttering and mission: we're in Zone 1 this week - The Entrance, Front Porch, and Dining Room.

This is Thursday's mission.

Have a good one

Evening everyone,

Am v v tired tonight as work is a bit crazy at the moment. LO's have settled right back into CM's (thanks for asking MM). Have managed to do some of my list but evening routine is looking a little dicey tonight as frankly am too tired though I have cleared away and done the pots after dinner which is a positive because previously I wouldn't have bothered doing that!

QOD sometimes we all have days like that and the job thing sounds really tough. Have an early night and it will all look better in the morning.

SR cake solves absolutely everything, I promise you.

jas tea loaf..mmmmmmmm. Am so jealous of anybody with baking abilities over and above the standard sponge cake and i haven't even matered that yet.

lpp the hallway is also my bugear or rather 'the dumping ground' to give it it's accurate title.

Must go now and finish doing 'stuff'.

droitwichmummy · 03/03/2010 21:00

Just about to put DS to bed - didn't get home from work till 8 but working from home tomorrow so I get a bit of a lie in.

Minimal plans tonight:
some ironing
1 load in WM
empty DW
quick sink shine
really quick s&s
something vvvv quick to eat (luckily been at conference with lovely lunch so ate well there)
bed at decent hour

Will catch up properly some time tomorrow!

MiniMarmite · 03/03/2010 21:06

Hey DWM just popping in too as DH on the phone now. Glad you had a good lunch at the conference .

Hi everyone,

Not really keeping up with the thread at the moment, lots of stuff going on.

I'm keeping up with the Flying OK, just not feeling terribly sociable, bear with me!

Haven't done anything particularly list-worthy today, just the usual stuff, so am going to sign off for an early night.

droitwichmummy · 04/03/2010 08:12

Morning everyone!

Quick question for you cooks out there: can you freeze toad in the hole? I'm thinking of doing some batch cooking later and thought this might make a change from my usual v limited repertoire

MiniMarmite · 04/03/2010 09:03

I'm sure you can DWM. You can freeze cooked sausages and cooked yorkshire pud so should be fine .

Happy cooking!

OP posts:
optimisticmumma · 04/03/2010 09:14

Morning all!
Hope everyone is feeling a 'bit more like it' today (as my Dmum would say!)
Thought it was going to be another lovely one but it is clouding over rapidly - oh well!

Today:
Dw on done
WM on done
Yoga (must go as I missed last week and it is good for me although eats up time!)
Coffee with friend
ironing
washing
drying
shopping
PAPERWORK - although I did get some done yesterday
Declutter
Drink water

See you all later....

swanriver · 04/03/2010 09:16

Hmm - seems like everyone is having a crazy time too - soothing pats to all esp Ellie QofD - what job are you trying for?, and babyQofD

today is crazy day squared..
volunteer work in morning, clashing with speaking with doctor on phone about ds2, picking up cat from vet (who may have crystal on kidney) bookclub dinner HERE [aagh - need to cook it]and finishing book (well dh read the first half for me - he is Letts Revision Notes for bookclubbers)

no flying at all, sink suspiciously clean from yest morning - but last night was completely mad and no child went to bed till 9.30 and I feel asleep again in dd's bed...cue no clothes organised -
but hey there were clothes - they seemed to magically reform on the chairs - perhaps the children are flying unbeknownst to me

pushmepullyou · 04/03/2010 09:31

Morning all

working from home today, with DD in nursery until half 12, so a bit of time to myself! Hooray, except I have to go to the dentist!

Haven't caught up with the thread yet but I need to post a quick list now to motivate me to do something/anything

Pay vet
cancel veg box
dentist
make lentil thing for tea
hoover stairs * 2
mission
clean hob
washing
think of something nice to do with DD this afternoon (any ideas anyone?)

feetheart · 04/03/2010 09:31

dwm - Great minds, we are having Toad in the Hole tonight.

Can I just state my claim as the non-singing/non-musical one on this thread - in house singing competitions at school they always made me turn the pages for the pianist so I couldn't sing DH and DD are learning the ukelele though.

SC - hope you are feeling better today - ignoring floors sounds like great plan

swanriver - cake definitely the way to go!

MM - don't deserve congratulations on tackling paperwork as have only put it on my list, haven't actually done anything yet

Plans (and to do list) changed a bit yesterday as friend and her 2 DDs came to lunch, one with chicken pox caught from our next-door neighbour's DD. Will be changing again today as DS woke up at 5.30am feeling rough and with 9 spots . I was supposed to be working this morning but will do bits in between looking for spots, cuddling the boy and watching Toy Story/Cars/Ben 10!

Will attempt:
Morning routine
2 mins Hotspot
Work as and when I can fit it in (the joys of working from home!)
Mission - probably yesterday's
15 Mins sorting paperwork
Finish painting 'Thing 2' on sweatshirt
Defrost freezer in kitchen
Make Toad in the Hole
Afternoon routine
Evening routine
Bed by 10.30pm

Lets hope the spot count remains below 10. Bets anyone?

droitwichmummy · 04/03/2010 09:59

Thanks for the toad in the hole encouragement haven't made it in years but looked in the freezer this morning and saw lots of sausages!

Working from home today so need to crack on in a minute but just had to let you all know that for the first time this year I have washing hanging on the washing line!

My itinery for today:
work make coffee
work
osteopath
shopping (cat food, past sauce and eggs)
work
lunch
into school for World Book Day extravaganza (at least I didn't have to dress him up as anything)
coffee at school while waiting for them to finish
home
cook
more work
ironing
bed

might manage to fit in a bit of flying around that as may find it hard to settle - should find out today if I have an interview next Tuesday. Should have already heard but there has been an almightly c**k up at HR and they put my application forward for the wrong competition Manager rang this morning to let me know and that it is being sorted out today. Trying not to think about it - need jaffa cakes...

MrsDinky · 04/03/2010 10:04

Morning all, need to post a list today and boot myself up the backside a bit.

Feetheart my DS had chicken pox aged 3, he got a big spot in between his bottom cheeks and said "Mum I have got a Cheerio in my bottom"

SR I think the flying habits do start to rub off on the DCs after a while, mine are definitely getting better at tidying (from a very low baseline I might add).

DW - done
Washing - 1st lot on line 2nd lot in machine
School run etc - done
Swish and swipe - done
Clean kitchen and bathroom floors
Hoover downstairs
Slow cooker tandoori chicken for tea tonight
Browse the sale on Debenhams website

aberita · 04/03/2010 10:24

Morning all! Despite DS being back at Kindergarten today I have done absolutely no flying so far - I haven't even emptied the dishwasher from last night yet. My excuse is (paid) work, but I could probably have got it done in half the time if I hadn't let myself get distracted by the Internet.

droitwichmummy I like the way that coffee is the first thing on your list. I'm just having a quick coffee now to revive myself before I make a start on the general chaos. (Oh, and I freeze absolutely everything - apart from the obvious things like whole eggs!)

swanriver Thanks for your suggestion yesterday about decluttering in the hall. I was all set to make a start on it when a friend called round unexpectedly, and then it was time for the children to have dinner, and then I had to put them to bed, and then I had to work... But I'm planning on doing the decluttering once I've finished today's baby steps.

pushmepullyou Hope it goes OK at the dentist's; I had to go last week and was glad to get it out of the way, for the next 6 months at least...

DD1 is going to a friend's after school today so I have the luxury of being child-free until I pick DS and DD2 up at 3. I have no excuses now...

swanriver · 04/03/2010 11:18

elliepac · 04/03/2010 11:41

Hello everyone

Still in recovery mode and now dd off school with bad cough but at least I can bend down today

Spent afternoon painting flower shapes cut from old egg boxes with dd (they will eventually be a spring bouquet for Granny once I've bought some green garden wire)

Trying to tidy up as much as poss, cleaner coming tomorrow thank heavens

Sorry to hear about chicken pox Feetheart

Save me a bit of toad in the hole please ladies!!

Well done with porch Optimistic
