Fledgling Flyers - Mad as March Hares

MiniMarmite · 26/02/2010 20:07

Welcome to the spring(ish) edition of the fledgling flyers.

Some of us will be flapping falteringly and others flying faultlessly towards making our homes look perennially spring cleaned!

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

This is what it's all about - Babysteps each day to try to get some order back into our home with LOADS of support from our regulars.

So join in! We start this thread on March 1st, but you are welcome to dive in at any point in the month.

Hop along to reserve your place...

Morning all (just)

Feetheart sounds like your proud Mummy moment is entirely justified. Swimming lessons seem to be a bit hit and miss amongst my DCs and friends. DS started at 3 at the local leisure centre, did well for first year, although still needed floats, then they moved a lot of the children up a level (not him) and moved in a load of 3 year olds and started again. After a while I got frustrated but wasn't sure what to do, the instructor said he would be better in a different class but the person who organises it all is impossible to get hold of. A friend told me about a private school she used, so enrolled both of them a year ago, it is expensive but they have both made a lot of progress, there is a much smaller group size and they are out of their depth the whole time.

todays list

Make more brownies with DD (no prunes this time, DH and DS didn't like those ones) - done.
Mooch round the garden sadly looking at all the dead plants - done
Washing - 2nd lot on
Declutter handbag
Paperwork - probably about 2 hours worth to do including filing
Sainsburys - done
Take DD to preschool - in a minute
Dusting of living room
DEclutter garden

droitwichmummy · 30/03/2010 20:18

Hello everyone!

Is it too early to have a medicinal brandy? Had a major shock - was sorting some washing and a large spider ran over my hand Don't like spiders but had to pretend it had just 'surprised me' for DS's benefit.

Not much flying here tonight as have to get 6.30 train in the morning (London tomorrow). DS doesn't want to go to bed, but once he is there I will have a bath, put a load in the WM, have something to eat (jacket spud in oven already), shine sink, S&S then bed.

Oh and need to get DS's football kit ready for tomorrow.

Will pop in again tomorrow when I get back

MM not getting much inspiration for an April title - best effort is 'There's no fooling an April fledgling flyer'.

MrsDinky · 30/03/2010 21:20

Aargh, just made a long post and mumsnet craashed on me.

Anyway, not going to repeat it all, but had quite a productive day.

April Showers bring May Showers Fledgling Flyers. Can you put cross-outs in thread titles?

DreamTeamGirl · 30/03/2010 22:04

Wow this thread is as busy as ever
So nice to see so many of you still here

Daily routines are ace here, but need to work on the weekely ones- did the sofa mission today- I only moved it 5 weeks ago and yet still
'EWWWWWWWWWWWWW'

I also have an almost insane hotspot on top of the microwave that is threatening to topple and a large pile of unopened mail - somethings NEVER change!!

DWM NEVER too early for a medicinal brandy/ large class of cold white, I would have freaked out too!

Looking forward to finding out what teh April thread will be called! When is MM putting us out of our misery??

MiniMarmite · 30/03/2010 22:18

Evening Ladies

MrsD (and All ) I'm happy to carry on with the April thread if you're happy for me to do so!

Sorry you had a bad night MissB, I hope it wasn't on account of contemplating what might be under the sofa! I looked under mine last week and informed DH that he needed to do something about it .

Aberita, sorry for your bad night too, sounds like quite a night.

SR I must watch Glee one day, I always see it popping up on the tv menu but never think to watch it. Sorry to hear that you and DS are still under the weather and hope you get an early night tonight.

feetheart well done to your DS, what a great achievement , you have every right to have a pround mummy moment.

DWM well done for keeping your cool in the spider incident! I think a medicinal brandy is most definitely in order!

Hey DTG ...will be putting you all our of your misery and announce the new thread title in a few minutes...MrsD unfortunately I don't think you can strikethrough in titles - I had been thinking of something similar myself...

MiniMarmite · 30/03/2010 22:30

...and the title for the April thread is...

There's no fooling an April fledgling flyer

Congratulations DWM for the winning title .

Mark your place for more babysteps, decluttering, missions, chat and friendly support on our sparkling new thread.

Well fledglings, we've reached the end of another month, and the final babystep is to recognise your achievements well done

We're still in Zone 5, the living room today (back to zone 1 tomorrow) so if you've some energy left, have a go at some decluttering or the mission.

Have a great day!

swanriver · 30/03/2010 22:53

I have packed two large suitcases
removed another suitcase worth of stuff and put it back always think I'm going to read something serious on holiday but I think just one "proper"book (possibly "Mayor of C"- )will be taxing enough.

Used up lots of fridge lurkers,
decluttered a fair amount - easier to chuck when you are leaving the country I find.
did all laundry and dried it in categories
made a list - three ticks on it already

still need to write letter to catsitter and give spare key to another friend as well.

Dh is following a day later so that takes pressure off somewhat.

Mini-Marmite try youtube "Rain on My Parade" Glee version - it's quite easy to sing too, well the first bit, especially if you stomp up and down the room.

missbennett · 31/03/2010 08:05

Morning!
SR I hope you have a lovely holiday.

No way will I do the mission today: Today looks like this.....
-work - team day to be got through
-parents evening for DD1 - ditto to be got through
-buy some craft materials for messy church on Friday
-hope DD2 puts tea on while we are at parents evening for DD1 - 'Tis fish and chips, ie freezer meal and not too taxing but she is complaining about having to put the fish on a baking tray as she is a vegetarian - she has veggie fingers - have catered to all needs! Am I unreasonable though?!
-pack bag (done)
-go to mother's later this evening as tomorrow is THE DAY - Maundy Thursday service and seeing the Queen! [excited!]

So no room for extreme vacuuming

Right, better get on. Hope everybody has a good day........

MrsDinky · 31/03/2010 09:27

Morning!

Well, got quite a lot done yesterday, so planning a quieter day today. A bit sad because a garden centre near us where the kids love going has burnt down overnight according to the news. Also it's freezing cold and lashing down with rain and not sure what we're going to do for the rest of the day (after trampolining with DD in a minute). Probably won't be hoovering behind the sofa I don't think though.

MissB - excited for you! Hope it goes well tomorrow, can't wait to hear about it.

MM - thank you for agreeing to carry on.

SR - have a lovely holiday

DTG - I tackled the top of the microwave last week, it was not particularly nice!

Got to go now, see you later

aberita · 31/03/2010 10:18

Morning all,

Just catching up with the last few babysteps over a coffee - I've now added drinking a glass of water to my morning, afternoon and evening routines, though I haven't actually drunk any yet. Not too sure about this week's pamper mission either, as I've never been any good at crafts - maybe I should try to do something with the DC. DD1 has just learned to crochet at school and is very into it; she takes her crochet hook and ball of wool everywhere!

Despite my good intentions, I must confess to having done very little flying since we've been at my ILs. I really must try to fit in a room rescue later on today though, as we can hardly move in our room here for all the things lying around.

Hope the journey goes well swanriver and that you have a lovely holiday!

Stillcounting · 31/03/2010 13:26

Hi all. Hope everyone OK.

Thank you Mini-M for steering us so effectively through March and for volunteering to continue in April. Tis much appreciated and (in my case anyway) needed!!

Just literally Flying in and out again as still hectic here and although I'm not what you would could ill, I'm feeling a bit "below par" currently so it's taking me all my time just to keep up with the usual chores and routines. Plus computer v. slow - think it is dying a slow death.

House in Jekyll and Hyde state. Ground floor and basement in relatively good order. Upstairs = mayhem.

Sorry not to catch up with everyone individually but sending huge waves. Am, likely to be absent quite a bit over next fortnight ....(Easter hols) too ....

Finally, just remembered that I've been very slack and not posted last "BodyClutter step" as promised so back in a mo ....

Stillcounting · 31/03/2010 13:37

FINAL (12th) BODY CLUTTER STEP FOR WEEK BEGINNING Monday 29th March

Please ignore if you are not watching your weight or CBA!!

This week?s tip:

Ring fence dvd or Wii time per week (we can refine this to specific times or days) (Pluto)

And try and maintain previous week's tips:

  • number 1, drink between 1 and 2 litres of water a day
  • number 2, eat five portions of fruit and veg a day
  • number 3, write down what you eat, how much and how often
  • number 4, walk as much as you can during the day (10,000 steps is a good target to aim for) and remember to lay out your walking clothes the night before!
  • number 5, eat only at defined meal and snack times (3 meals and 2 healthy snacks ideal) and don't pick in between. Remember "Kitchen pickers wear big knickers"!!
  • number 6, cut out alcohol completely or restrict to x nights per week
  • number 7, keep a low calorie/low fat snack in your handbag
  • number 8, make low fat soup and eat it rather than chuck it
  • number 9, don?t eat lard!
  • number 10, eat an apple a day
  • number 11, swap pulses for carbs at the evening meal (and no carb snacks after that).
Stillcounting · 31/03/2010 13:48

Thank you Mini the duster tasted wonderful with a little horseradish sauce

Well done for drinking water Aberita

Great new title MummyD

Have a lovely holiday SR

Hope op goes well tomorrow for your dd PA

Frantic waves to everyone else

Off to collect dd from ballet and dodge the hail stones. Wild weather here!!

feetheart · 31/03/2010 14:50

Only just got a chance to sneak on now as have had a bit of a mad day!

Have done:
Various emails to people re letting my flat (still no joy there )
Finished off Easter bonnet - DS had very little interest in its creation as expected so DD and I made it!
Boy cat to Specialist vet - came away £300 lighter, thank goodness for insurance
DS's Easter Bonnet Parade - DH made it too which was nice. Lots of singing, 'parading' around the room and smiley children. VERY pleased to see DS joining in so enthusiastically as this time last year he had the cast taken off his leg in the morning and I had to carry him round the 'parade'
Cleared up and hoovered living room with DS's help - manged to pull out sofa and do some dusting so at least I managed something in there this month

Still to do:
Morning routine
2 mins Hotspot
Afternoon routine
Make pizza for DC + DD's friend on new Pampered Chef stonewear thingie - very excited about this
Evening routine
Bed by 10pm

Back later if not too exhausted by Masterchef semi-finals

elliepac · 31/03/2010 16:46

Evening all,

will thursday never come ???

Have now officially given up on house until holidays start. Have had a crazy few weeks at work and frankly am pooped. More to the point, have forgotten that DS has an egg decorating competition tomorrow and now have to hard boil an egg and figure out what to paint it with a limited paint palette(blue, yellow, green and red). The last few years we have put loads of effort in and made egg farms and a pigsty and he has never won so am a bit cba this year hence forgetting. . If anybody has any marvellous ideas I would be very grateful. (please bear in mind I am the least artistic person in the world)

Aaaaaaaah

droitwichmummy · 31/03/2010 19:00

Evening all!

If I have achieved nothing else this month I have won the 'name the April thread' competition

Made it to London & back in one piece but been up since 5 so on automatic pilot. An easier day tomorrow but got to go into Birmingham for a meeting in the morning so I'll have to work after collecting DS and DNeice from school

No flying for me tonight - DS to bed then I'm off too! (I said that last night but didn't drop off till after 11) Might manage to load DW but that's probably about it.

See you on the shiny new thread tomorrow!

optimisticmumma · 31/03/2010 19:33

Hi everyone!

Sorry I've been awol again but RL has been mad since I last posted and the laptops have been commandeered by ebay-mad DH and coursework-laden DD and DS1!

I have only skimmed the thread and just wanted to say Hiiiiiii to DWM, DEM and DTG - I missed you all!
DEM - the only thing I can say to you is try to relax in the classroom. Teachers tend to look more serious when they are stressing inside. The other thing is that there are as many teaching styles as there are personalities and you can only be yourself. Good luck!
PA - hope your crises is alleviating and whatever DD2 has been up to she has learned from it!!

Well, need to pop off now and finish off 'goodbye' supper for DD who is off to Italy tomorrow - Herculanium, Pompeii etc etc (she does latin!)

Will try to post tomorrow - but have a good evening all...

MiniMarmite · 31/03/2010 22:37

Waaah, going to have to be super-quick as DH needs the computer for work .

SR wishing you a wonderful time on your hols! In the meantime I will be stomping and singing .

MissB lol at extreme vacuuming - reminds me of that recent interview with an extreme ironer (Everest etc) .

MrsD the garden centre burning down sounds like pretty high drama, what a shame .

Aberita that's so sweet that your DD loves to crochet and a bit too!

SC hope you are on par again soon and that you have a good spring break - we'll see you when we see you .

Feetheart I hope the pizza was a success. I have the very same pampered chef stoneware thingy and it lives permanently in my oven as it helps regulate the temperature (so good for baking generally)...not such a good colour now though!

Ellie it is nearly Thursday .

DWM I hope you are sleeping soundly x

I hope you had a good farewell supper OM and that DD has a great trip.

Well, time to sign off and flap over to our new thread. Well done on all your achievements this month, and a clean slate again tomorrow for anyone who feels they need it (that'll be me I think)!

Up, up and away...
