Fledgling Flyers - Mad as March Hares

MiniMarmite · 26/02/2010 20:07

Welcome to the spring(ish) edition of the fledgling flyers.

Some of us will be flapping falteringly and others flying faultlessly towards making our homes look perennially spring cleaned!

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

This is what it's all about - Babysteps each day to try to get some order back into our home with LOADS of support from our regulars.

So join in! We start this thread on March 1st, but you are welcome to dive in at any point in the month.

Hop along to reserve your place...

off to tip now

hope you manage this afternoon Nanos hope everyone can snuggle up

ChairmumMiaowGoingItAlone · 19/03/2010 18:48

Hello all,

Not a bad day so far:

  • defrosted and cleaned freezer
  • mopped floor around freezer
  • made huge batch of braised beef in slow cooker for freezer
  • emptied dishwasher
  • hang out washing
  • reboot washing machine
  • pack back for DS to go to his dad's
  • shop for all the stuff I need to cook up all this meat!

To do:

  • clean kitchen (might not bother)
  • prepare bedroom for nieces to stay tonight

Stillcounting - hope your mouse smell gets dealt with soon

NANOS - hope your DCs feel better too!

MiniMarmite · 19/03/2010 21:47

Evening Ladies,

A quiet one today, perhaps you (UK ladies) are all watching Sport Relief like me and at the same time.

SC I'm sending beautifully scented flowers your way and I hope the shopping has helped too!

about the freezer Chairmum - I think this needs to happen to me as I have been planning to defrost my freezer for the past two years! Good luck with the batch cooking

Hi Frazzled we swear by this carpet cleaner for sick and wee (and believe me a frequent occurance in this house) stains.

Aberita er, no, unfortunately commandment number 4 is still eluding me!

Hope you enjoyed the music part of your day SR

How are the DCs feeling NANOS?

I can't quite believe we have arrived at Friday again! I have a good weekend planned - a Hen Day/Evening tomorrow and pottering followed by food with friends on Sunday .

OP posts:
MiniMarmite · 19/03/2010 21:52

Good morning

Here is today's babystep which is about laundry. This is the thing that gets our of hand most quickly in our house...we're not bad at washing but then things seem to get stuck in the system!

No mission or decluttering at the weekends so enjoy your day and/or catch up with something else .

OP posts:
MrsDinky · 19/03/2010 22:20

Evening all,

No Sport Relief for me, don't mind donating but don't enjoy watching celebrities doing their stuff, don't watch children in Need either. I have been catching up on my Coronation Streets as DH is working this evening, he hates soaps so it is nice to be able to watch 3 episodes back to back without interruption!

MM / Frazzled - haven't tried that carpet cleaner, but their bathroom and kitchen cleaners are brilliant, I use 1001 Troublehsooter

NANOS - hope DCs feeling better soon.

Havne't done much flying again today, but have definitely got to start decluttering again. I had a big push on it before Christmas, things are certainly a lot better than they were but there is scope for a lot more stuff to go I think, so that is going to be my focus the next few weeks, have got quite a lot of big stuff such as cots, car seats, pushchairs that are no longer needed and just taking up space.

Great excitement tonight, DS has got his first wobbly tooth!

Very busy weekend in prospect, might not get on till Monday, so have a good weekend everyone.

needanightoutsoon · 20/03/2010 01:43

Hi everyone,

silly time i know but im up with DS2 poor little man and poor little me

i Managed to get kitchen cupboards scrubbed inside and out including kickboards, splash backs, and back door !
Also door handles and rails around house(mainly because i went on a germ killing spree) ha.

thankyou to everyone who wished my DC's well sorry i didnt get time to get bk till now. they have been full of the cold for a few days but now we have th tummy bug lurking ahhh!
as long as hubby doesnt get it, men are very sorry for themselves when poorly bless them they are so fragile ! ha

hoping tomorrow is a productive day as DH at home so a pair of extra hands hurrah.

im afraid im watching sport relief and wished i hadnt turned on the tv, those poor babies im sobbing for them....

off back up ladies hes finally soothed back to sleep so thats tomorrows routine up the spout i,ll need extra Z's now xx

I will declutter cant go wrong with that x

PositiveAttitude · 20/03/2010 07:51

Morning Ladies.

SC Hope you are being pampered away from rotting mice smells.

Chairmum - Have you had to eat lots of meat and ice-cream out of your defrosting freezer? Hope you got to it in time to save most of it.

Frazzled - I often dont get a lot done when I seem to be at work all the time, but after 8 weeks of varying degrees of flying life in the house is certainly a lot calmer and more organised even when I can only do the bare minimum.

SR - The non-washing could be a default setting, but when they suddenly get a twinkle in their eye caused by a girl you will need gas masks from all the smellies he will be using!
I hope DD has a good trip, torch and all!!

NANOS - Hope your DCs are feeling totally better today and you can get DH on board with some flying.

Aberita - Commandment No 4! Pah! Mine goes 1,2,3,5,6,7.....

MM - Need the laundry babystep, I got up this morning to find a note from DD2 asking where her work clothes are that she needs at 9.30 this morning. Put in the wash at the beginning of the week. After a dig around they are now in the washing machine. Hope they are dry in time. Definitely the first to slip in this house!

MrsD - Oh I HATE wobbly teeth with a passion. When mine were little I would send them to my mums when they became too bad. I dont know what it is about them, i was a nurse and can handle puke, sick, pooh, wee even was fine when handed a hand (detached from owner) but a wobbley tooth and I would run a mile!!

MissB - Have a brill time at Alton Towers!!

Thanks for all your good wishes for Thursday. Day went downhill at the interview for DD3 to go to college. Now have to come up with a plan for what a dyslexic, dyspraxic, CFS/ME suffering, determined, stubborn, bubbly, caring, beautiful, lovely soon to be 16 year old, with NO GCSEs at all and no proper education for 2 years due to illness can do with her future. A lot of talking to be done.

List for this weekend:
Washing x a million
cooking between the washing to keep me sane! On list are: curry, naan bread, ordinary bread, meringue, and probably a lot more when DS gets hold of the cookbook.
Shopping for all ingredients.
Really clean kitchen, including the floor.
Hoover (or carpet sweep) our bedroom floor.

Have a good weekend ladies.

missbennett · 20/03/2010 07:58

Morning!
NANOS hope you got back to sleep and you're still there!
MrsD - very exciting re the wobbly tooth! I hope the tooth fairy comes. I forgot once and had to write a note in teeny tiny writing about how sorry the tooth fairy was but she was a new tooth fairy and she had got lost and bumped into a passing owl and it put her behind!!
SR sounds like you got lots done, also chairman - and lots of forward cooking too
minim enjoy your hen night tonight!

I had a very lazy evening last night - was truly knackered after manic week at work. DD1 had friends round and DD2 watching sports relief so I finished my book - The Rose of Sebastopol - quite enjoyed it but not sure about the ending - left it all a bit unravelled for my liking but I won't say more in case anyone is reading it.
Today I am taking the Guides to Alton Towers so no flying for me. DH says he will do some shopping. No doubt he will then expect a medal . Have done routines though so straight-ish before the weekend starts but still no hoovering . Tomorrow.......
Enjoy your various weekends!

Littlepurpleprincess · 20/03/2010 08:17

Hello everyone. Spending the day just me and DS today. FLYing but nice things IYSWIM. We're going food shopping together and DS has made his very own list, then we are cooking LOTS. This afternoon we are tidying his bedroom (wish me luck!)

Missbennett, my DP also expects a medal, his own award ceremony and two week holiday somewhere beautiful for his efforts if he lifts a finger.

elliepac · 20/03/2010 08:31

MOrning all,

true to form after a beautiful week weatherwise get up this morning and it is grey and overcast. Hmmmph.

LOts to do today. I actually did my food shopping last night for once which leaves me the whole day to get cracking. Normally I get cracking and then have to stop to go shopping. So no excuses today. DH is out all day doing some jobs for my mum so have a clear run through.

List posting is still simple:-

Washing
Drying
Tidying
Cleaning

LPP am also planning on tackling DS's room today and being as you can't actually see the floor at the moment it will take some time!

missb have a great day at Alton Towers, haven't been in years, am .

pa am with you on the washing. As soon as I fall off the wagon you can tell because the washing starts to build up again although you must have so much more than me with your brood so maybe i am just lazy

nanos nothing worse than a poorly man in my opinion. Hope you managed to get some sleep

mm your weekens sounds lovely. Have a good time

mrsdinky DS nearly exploded with excitement when he got his first wobbly tooth so i understand the excitement!

chairmum hope you got your freezer sorted. WHat a nightmare!

Anyway, had better go and get started. Big waves to everyone else sc om aberita mmango sr and those i have invariably missed.

ChairmumMiaowGoingItAlone · 20/03/2010 08:32

needanightoutsoon · 20/03/2010 11:16

morrning girls,

Well myself and DS2 were up at 07:10am !
everyone is feeling better though only with sore tummys and red noses, woke up myself coughing and sneezing - oh the joys here we go again..

enough whining....

However i banned myself frm laptop for entire morning as need to take commandment 4 on board and get something done - seriously eek.

optimisticmumma · 20/03/2010 12:09

Morning all, or should I say afternoon?

Miserable weather here today and I am waiting for DD (14) to grace me with her presence so we can go out!!

So far;
DW on
WM on
kitchen cleared up after DS1 decided to make everyone pancakes for breakfast!
bed stripped
Driving prac with DS1 done

So to do:
remake bed
drying/ironing
look at next week's plan for school.
go to town
do some of the missions from this week
go out for curry with friends
watch the rugby! (probabaly record it not on til late)

I've decided that having teenagers is definitely good on the whole! Breakfast is made, they have lain in so I could too and the eldest will hopefully pass his test next month!!
We all went to the theatre last night and had a chinese in china town. It was all very civilised...

A big wave to everyone. PA - I've posted on the other thread but so for you...

Littlepurpleprincess · 20/03/2010 13:59

Hello Elliepac! Still haven't started DS's room, but Argos have phoned to say they will be delivering his new bed on tuesday so I better get a move on! I just don't want to...lol.

aberita · 20/03/2010 15:14

Afternoon all,

Just dropping in to say hello and hope everyone's having a good weekend. Not much flying going on here... I was out most of the morning looking for a big wicker-style storage chest for the DDs to put all their dolls and doll-related items in; at the moment, it's all overflowing from two small boxes. Finally found one in about the tenth shop I went into, which will hopefully restore a certain amount of order to the DDs' bedroom!

PositiveAttitude Sorry to hear that your day didn't go well on Thursday. My dad has CFS but didn't develop it until his fifties; I can only imagine how frustrating it must be for your DD at a much younger age - and for you as well. I hope that things will start to look brighter again soon.

needanightoutsoon Glad to hear DS is better, hope you're feeling better soon as well.

MrsDinky Exciting news about the wobbly tooth! DD2 is waiting impatiently for her first wobbly one and has already made a Peppa Pig box to put it in!

optimisticmumma We still have the teenage years to look forward to! At the moment I have a very clingy DS on my lap and I'm worried he's going to delete this message or turn the computer off at any time, so had better keep this short!

And so a short list for the rest of the day:

Morning routine
Laundry
Encourage DDs to do piano practice
Send magazines (featuring short paragraph about and photo of DC!) to DD1's godmothers

Having got the DDs' bedroom tidier than it had been in a long while in readiness for the "photo shoot", the photographer then decided he wanted to take a picture of the DC lying on the floor surrounded by all their toys and books, so it was back to its usual state in a few minutes! (I did try to upload a photo to my profile, but couldn't get it to work for some reason...)

DS now off my lap but in one of his investigative (i.e. destructive) moods so had better go!

Waves to everyone, hope you enjoy the rest of the weekend!

elliepac · 20/03/2010 15:53

lpp have done all downstairs and the bathroom but still can't bring myself to set foot in DS's room!

ChairmumMiaowGoingItAlone · 20/03/2010 16:20

I've had a productive day, and my house is looking much better

To do tomorrow:

  • massive batch of spag bol
  • big batch of chilli
  • something with pork!
  • dig more of the garden
  • washing
  • bake something nice with DS
  • make landline phone work

MiniMarmite · 20/03/2010 22:26

Evening Ladies,

Just dropping by to say 'hello'. I think I will do a single weekend round-up tomorrow if that is ok...had a good hen day/evening chocolate making followed by a fab dinner...need my bed now!

OP posts:
MiniMarmite · 20/03/2010 22:27

Morning!

Today's babystep is another reading one here and no zone work today as it is Sunday. Have a great day, whatever you are doing.

OP posts:
missbennett · 20/03/2010 23:07

Blimey nanos that's impressive! And chairman - am very at all your cooking and clearing!
OM we haven't got as far as taking DD1 out for driving practice but her instructor says she is improving so the day will arrive soon I'm sure - is there a nervous emoticon? But I agree with you about teenagers - they are (usually) good fun/company most of the time!
swanriver impressive shopping! I haven't done proper planning etc this week so I must get back into the swing of it!

Good day at Alton Towers, in spite of the rain! DD1 didn't go - went to work this morning and then had a lazy day and she seems much more herself tonight.
DH did some shopping and watched the rugby and thank goodness Wales won
DD2 enjoyed all the rides but has had toothache all day and says she won't sleep tonight and is generally weepy - but I suspect some of this is to make sure she gets attention following in DD1's footsteps! If it's still bad tomorrow we'll make an appointment this week though - it can be really horrid I know.
Right, off to bed for me - a day spent outside for the first time in ages was exhausting!

elliepac · 21/03/2010 07:09

Morning all,

Thankfully it has finally stopped raining here and it is beautiful sunny morning. Today is the first weekend day in a long while that no-one in the elliepac household has anywhere to be so am planning on making the most of it. Flying is going to drop by the wayside and we are going to have a lazy morning, sunday roast and then a walk in the park I think.

List therefore looks like this:-

washing
drying
putting away
sunday roast
DS bedroom (am putting this on for lpp, if she did hers am going to have to do mine )

missb glad you had a good if wet day at Alton Towers

nanos hope you managed a suitably long lie in (deserved)

sr glad you managed the singing practice. I managed to do my food shopping for £37 this week . Purely necessity as it is a long month this month and funds are low . But it makes me wonder how some weeks I can spend £90.

chairmum all your food sounds lovely!

om good luck with the driving lessons. I remember my mum refused to get in a car with me until I had passed my test. SO the day I passed I told her to trust me, I was officially a good driver and she let me tak her for a spin. Now, my parents had a very steep drive at the time, so I reversed up the drive and had to wait at thetop to let traffic past which required some good clutch control. Unfortunately, mine wasn't as good as i thought it was and i let clutch out too quickly, shot across the road and into the lamppost opposite . Thankfully no damage done but mum's face was a picture and it was about 6 months before she ventured into a car with me again!

mm glad you had a good hen day. HOw dare you only do one weekend round-up? . It's almost as if you want a life of your own in RL. DOn't you realise this thread comes before everything .

Have a lovely sunday everyone.
