Fledgling Flyers - Mad as March Hares

MiniMarmite · 26/02/2010 20:07

Welcome to the spring(ish) edition of the fledgling flyers.

Some of us will be flapping falteringly and others flying faultlessly towards making our homes look perennially spring cleaned!

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

This is what it's all about - Babysteps each day to try to get some order back into our home with LOADS of support from our regulars.

So join in! We start this thread on March 1st, but you are welcome to dive in at any point in the month.

Hop along to reserve your place...

No duvet in sight..... oh how I wish!

Welcome to two newbies, sorry cant scroll for your names, although I remeber a smile when I read them both.

Just come on to say MissB - My DD1 had a problem with hairloss when she was in year 11. She went to the dr and it all came out how stressed she felt. Just having her feeelings acknowledged seemed to ease things for her. THe school supported her and were fab (OM - the good school, not DD3s school OBVIOUSLY!!!) I soon righted itself, but worth looking into.

I am off to prepare roast for tonight, so that it can cook while i am out at interview with DD3 and can come home to all cokked and ready for dishing.
Hope to ahve time for 30 minute sit down with book after prep done.

Hope you are all enjoying the sunshine (windows look terrible!!)

swanriver · 18/03/2010 14:28

Evening all, a quick 'fly' through as I have my post work cuppa, geeing myself up for the 'get back on track' task!

A big welcome to Chairmummiaow and ineedanightout (great names ladies by the way ). I really hope you enjoy the thread as much as I do (i also need a night out soon because this is the closest I get to a social life )

Am about to embark on a tidy up and general whirl around. om I am so jealous of your cuppa in the sun, it has been beautiful here all day but, like clockwork, as soon as I left school the clouds came in and it is now spitting with rain .

Better go, DS is bugging me to go on cbeebies and I need to get moving.

Stillcounting · 18/03/2010 17:24

Hello everyone

Just diving in and out. Everyone has impressive lists today.

Not much Flying done here today but loads of gardening in the sunshine to avoid the still-lingering aroma of decaying mammals ...

(*Mmango, they are under the floorboards so I just have to wait, but I'm not sure I can much longer .... wishing you rain ....!!)

Thanks for the steps Mini-M

A warm welcome to Chairmum and Needanightout Ellie I'm doing the "I'm late with the uniform" routine right now

A special hello to Optimistic whom I managed to miss out yesterday. Lol re "lying there thinking about Tescos and ironing" - oh yes I know that feeling!! And well done for battling through ...

Everyrone's enchiladas sound wonderful ... Mexican food hasn't quite made it to Belgium yet ...will have to have a bit of search in the supermarket.

Thanks for the recipe MrsDinky (am still dithering about slow cooker)

Hope your day is getting better PA (the ONLY clean thing in our house is the windows - and that's because I have a window-cleaner - it's the rest of the house that is unspeakable!)

Glad you had a lovely day yesterday MissBennett (I lost loads of hair post-pregnancy, when for once in my life it had been almost thick and lustrous, it then went back to default position of being thin and straw-like!!!)

Today, I'm copying Elliepac and I will probably be doing the same tomorrow too

(holding my breath because many of the dc in dd's class have gone down with a stomach bug and I'm praying she won't succumb)

Washing
Drying
Tidying

Hello to Aberita, Swanriver and everyone I have inevitably missed

Keep the home flags Flying ladies ....

MrsDinky · 18/03/2010 18:34

Just popping on to say hello to Chairmum, cross posted with you earlier. Ditto what I said to NANOS really, sounds like you have made a good start and you will find plenty of support here if you need it. Back later.

ChairmumMiaowGoingItAlone · 18/03/2010 20:33

Hello!

Thanks for all the lovely welcomes.

Today I have:

  • shined my sink (and my cooker top)
  • put a wash load on
  • changd bed covers
  • put washing out to dry
  • put DS's clothes away.
  • do a couple of bits of (work from home) paperwork. (took ages)
  • filled in form for healthy start vouchers to take to midwife next week
  • sorted out a big pile of hats and blankets from the kitchen to where they should be
  • made veggie risotto for dinner
  • wipe down all the kitchen counters
  • put more dry clothes away.
  • put a load of sheets on to wash (x2)

Seems like a pretty good list to me, and on top of that I've taken DS to toddler group this morning, an done all his bedtime stuff (the joys of single parenthood).

One of my jobs for tomorrow is going to be to work out my morning and evening routines again - I had them but they involved H doing some stuff, so they will need to change. I guess they also need to be different on the days that H has DS, as I will have different priorities!

MrsDinky · 18/03/2010 21:23

Evening all,

Spare ribs from the slow cooker were fabulous!.

Didn't do too much flying today, but things are reasonably under control at the moment [touch wood emoticon]. Managed the gym this afternoon, DCs ate their tea nicely (rare for both to do so). Not much else to report really, so I am going to go off and watch a bit of darts on the telly.

Night all

swanriver · 18/03/2010 22:11

MiniMarmite · 18/03/2010 22:40

Hi Ladies,

I've been doing my very own juggling act today, with help from DH - we've been trying to take it turns to work and look after DS who is still off-sick from the CM...it is proving interesting because he seems to decide to be clingy with whoever happens to be trying to do work!

Welcome to the chaos fun NANOS and ChairMumMiaow . As everyone has said, you've made a great start.

Mmmango I've done a little rain dance for you, any luck? I've been in Aus when there have been bush fires and even when they are a distance away the smoke gets to you so I have sympathy.

Hope your day improved PA!

MissB if it is any consolation I tried on some Not Your Daughters Jeans out of curiosity once and they looked terrible on me which was probably a good thing when I think about it! It does sound a bit worrying about DD's hair, hope she is ok x.

pea and prawn risotto OM, lovely...with tomato ketchup !

Ellie, loved your list! I hope you are feeling a little more on top of things tonight in preparation for (fingers crossed) a sunny weekend .

SR great image of your bouncy cat! Mine just kept trying to sleep on my shoulders early this morning. Quite cute but noisy when he purrs in my ear!

Well done on early bedtime aberita!

Thanks for the slowcooker links MrsD, ribs sound lovely. I have a picture of DS eating spare ribs for the first time at about 11 months - he looks like Bam Bam from the Flintstones!

Glad you got out into the sunshine SC and away from the rotting rodents!

missbennett · 18/03/2010 22:42

Hello all, especially nanos and chairmum. Sounds like folk have had good days - very envious of sitting in the sunshine!
Thank you for all comments about hair loss - I'm very inclined to think it's stress related. GP appoinment already made for school hols so she can see the one she likes best - but we'll make an earlier one if needs be. She is VERY fed up at the moment and life seems just all too much - and it's hard to know how to make it better. I guess perhaps I can't -just make sure she knows how much we love her.
Have had words with DD2 about lackof piano practice. She has now flounced off to bed because I was cross - I left for Guides having reminded her to practice and when I came back 2 hours later she was in exactly the same place on the settee with no practice done
Tomorrow I must hoover. I have given the bathroom a good going over tonight. Didn't manage a home bless last weekend so must try and do tomorrow as on Saturday am taking 30 Guides to Alton Towers
I am so ready for the Easter break

MiniMarmite · 18/03/2010 22:48

Morning Ladies

Our babystep today is another reading one.

We're still in the bathroom plus one other room for decluttering and missions.

Newbies, most of us have found the best way to start is to do the babysteps, starting with shining our sinks (or you could join in with the current babystep if you prefer) adding a new one each day, and 15 minutes decluttering in the current zone.

I hope that makes sense but if you have any questions please give us a shout .

Stillcounting · 19/03/2010 07:45

Morning, Chairmum, Nanos and everyone else

OK - smell still lingering - not funny any more - I'm threatening to leave with my spotted handkerchief attached to a pole ...

Not posting a list because I can't stand to be on the basement or ground floor (the rodent corpse is somewhere between the two).

I might have to go shopping instead!!

Have a good day everyone.

It's quite likely that we will be away for the weekend!!!

ChairmumMiaowGoingItAlone · 19/03/2010 08:36

Bit of a panic this morning - realised one of the freezers has been unplugged for a few days, so has been slowly defrosting. It was still cold and not completely defrosted so at least I can still use the meat, so today I have:

  • defrosted and cleaned freezer
  • mopped floor around freezer
  • made huge batch of braised beef in slow cooker for freezer
  • emptied dishwasher

ToDo:

  • hang out washing
  • reboot washing machine
  • clean kitchen
  • prepare bedroom for nieces to stay tonight
  • pack back for DS to go to his dad's
  • shop for all the stuff I need to cook up all this meat!
frazzled74 · 19/03/2010 09:14

hi everyone, have been at work loads this week so havent really done much in house this week.
todays list
beds done
washing in

to do- steam clean sitting room carpet and try to get rid of puke stain from ds and wee stain from puppy. (any tips welcome)
iron uniform for work tonight
go online and try to find 2 single beds that will fit into dcs small bedroom (bunk beds not working)
make a curry for dh and dcs dinner
cup of coffee and read book before school pick up.

aberita · 19/03/2010 09:45

Morning all,

I managed to oversleep this morning despite making my 10 pm deadline by 10 minutes, so I think it may need to be brought forward even further... I'm still not getting on too well with no. 4 of the 11 commandments (not allowing myself to get sidetracked by the computer) - I hope you're managing more successfully than I am, MiniMarmite!

Today's to do list:

Take DH's tax return into tax office done (but they sent me away again because they need receipts for childcare costs)
Morning routine done
15 minute declutter in bathroom
Home office mission done (last week) - so 5 min hot spot in office to do
Bathroom mission
Print out 11 commandments and hang in prominent place
Ironing

But first I need a coffee!

Hope the smell goes away soon Stillcounting - a weekend away sounds like a good idea...

Welcome to needanightoutsoon and ChairmumMiaow and a belated hello to frazzled74 from a fellow newbie - even after just a few weeks of flying, I'm already starting to feel much better about things and more in control. The house is looking better too.

swanriver · 19/03/2010 10:01

Frazzled curry - lovely!
my cooking is really floundering at present -tormented by too many choices and then end up cooking plain spag with grated cheese have 6 Thai curry recipes cut outof mags pinned up on my pinboard but not yet made any of them [aargh] think I may have to just close my eyes and throw 5 away.

Feeling extremely bleugh today, not sure why, and can't seem to get started.

Done
Dcs to school with justfinished homework - chanting spellings at them (circumference, obtuse - as we walked to school. That is enough to make anyone grumpy I fear. Ds2 was being so cuddly on way to school, that cheered me up.
Ds1 is refusing to wash (is this what a pre-teen default setting?)
Dd is in a complete flap about her trip and keeps scuttling around finding torches etc when she should be putting her socks on.

Anyway a list may help.
First laundry
music p
Then menu planning - start using one of Thai recipes
then finish off dd's suitcase
write letter to bereaved friend
thank you letters for ds2's presents and a lunch
post letters, pick up any extra ingredients
finally get into garden as a reward
then at 1.30 TIP with car

Chairman at least you will have lots of beautiful meals ready in freezer, still, v. exasperating. Look after yourself, don't do too much.

Mini-M that sink reflection actually made me feel WORSE - I know things will never be like that in THIS house, especially the Yoga Videos Although it's true that when you stay in hotel/rented holiday cottage what is lovely is the lack of possessions, and you are free just to LIVE.

swanriver · 19/03/2010 11:26

have now done
bedrooms again - even clearer, and more sheets changed
bathroom declutter and pull out to get at the gunge
stuff put in right rooms
shirts hung out to dry - to iron later in one batch
dd's suitcase part 2 (part 3 yet to come)
new pop-up laundry basket in ds2 room to encourage drty laundry duty
dw loaded
kitchen hotspot cleared (yuk)

now music

needanightoutsoon · 19/03/2010 11:32

MiniMarmite · 19/03/2010 13:24

Hi Everyone

SR it made me feel worse too. Perhaps I should have issued a 'health warning' with it! I couldn't imagine my house being that way (almost wouldn't it too in a way, well that's my story and I'm sticking to it )!

Back later
