Everyone welcome, newcomers and old(ish) flappers alike!

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

As Christmas is approaching I will also be posting Christmas missions.

I'll post links early in the morning on the relevant day while I'm making the coffee and brewing tea. There might even be toast...

Good luck!

Hi everyone . Can I come back? Tried this in October and kept it up for about 2 weeks but then let things slide.

My house is a hovel and so disorganised. I really need to get my act together and stick to it this time. DH is away till Friday and I really want to make a difference before he comes back.

dreamingofawhitexmasteamgirl · 02/12/2009 22:10

Huge congrats on the job DWM /SC
I am beyond jealous!!

Welcome bigboots. Do come back, its lovely to have you here!

Mullered welcome aboard mate. Yes if you are just starting then just do the bit marked babysteps You are only 2/3 days in so either play catch up (not too hard) or just run a day behind and catch up on a reading day.

The babysteps are how you make this be something that sticks with you forever as opposed to a quick fix,

If you are reasonably decluttered then by all means do the mission too, or do the babystep and 15 mins decluttering in the current zone (Flylady divides the house into zones and visits each place each monthh), but if all you do is the babysteps you will still make a huge difference really quickly
Sorry I sound a bit evangelical, but this system has changed my home life so much!!

MiniMincemeat · 02/12/2009 22:15

Welcome Mullered and Bigboots

The idea behind the flylady malarky is to do housework in tolerable small (timed) sessions and gradually work towards forming daily habits that help us keep our houses clean without us feeling like we're doing it all the time or having 'binges' every now and then and burning out. This starts with repeating the babysteps and decluttering until they are second nature and your house is decluttered and then move on to the missions which involve more detailed cleaning.

MC (usually known as DWM) posts the babysteps and missions (plus Christmas missions at this time of year) each day from the flylady website (worth having a look around the rest of the site and, as SC would say, ignoring the barftastic terminology) www.flylady.net/pages/begin_babysteps.asp

You can then:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

Many of us also find that posting our other daily tasks and having a bit of a moan/gossip help motivate us and get some much needed nagging.

This is my third month on here and I've got most of the babysteps in my routines but still trying to get onto the decluttering and doing the missions from time to time. My house definitely looks better than it did before and is easier to get back on track if I fall behind. Most importantly everyone is really supportive and helpful!

The others might want to add if I've missed anything important.

Good luck!

SantasBigboots · 02/12/2009 22:16

(Test driving Christmas name change...)
Right, I'm off for a quick 'bedtime blitz' before starting for real tomorrow. Feeling very keen!!!

Hi Mullered (love the name - really appropriate for us fledglings) and BB. You are very welcome to join in the fun and just in time for the egg nog and mince pies too!

This is the link to the flylady's home page. Have a look if you want to see what she is all about. We overlook a lot of the twee-ness (is that a word and just do what we can.
Every morning I post the babystep link and the mission for the day. As you are just starting, all you need to do is the babystep. That's it.
If you want to do more then the suggestion is that you spend 15 minutes decluttering in the current zone. For the rest of this week that is the entrance, porch and dining room. Have a go at the mission if you want to/have the time.
Once the area is clear of clutter and you have your routine pretty much sorted there is apparently some suggestions for detailed cleaning. I think I can safely say that no one on this thread has got that far, although folk on the daily fly threads might have. (This seems really long, you can tell I should be finishing the ironing).

Most of us are doing the babysteps and decluttering + the mission for those who have been around for a month or two (or more). A lot of us try to post a list. No one will have a go at you if you don't do what is there (unless you have asked us to); its really for you to plan what you would like to achieve during the day and see how well you have done.

Phew - finished the lesson. Let us know if you need any help.

Word of caution about the flylady site - sign up for the e-mails if you like but if you do I recommend the digest option rather than the full list. If you sign up for the regular e-mails you will get inundated by them.

OK - what have I done today?
Didn't post a list today but have got quite a lot done:
morning stuff
swish & swipe
put washing away
dinner
DW on
WM on
ironing mostly done
DS bathed
tomorrow's dinner done - decided I don't have enough time to cook each evening and get DS to bed at a reasonable hour so I am going to try to cook the evening before so that I just need to re-heat when we get home. Lasagne just done so on target for tomorrow
quick tidy round upstairs, will do downstairs tomorrow.

DEM sorry you are having a rough time. Pop by to let of steam if you can even if you have not managed to do any flying.

Going to do 5 more mins ironing then off to bed

See you all tomorrow

mummyclaus · 02/12/2009 22:24

x posts MM and Dreaming (can't cope with all those initials!)

Hope we haven't overloaded you newbies with too much information - just keen to make you feel welcome!

mummyclaus · 03/12/2009 06:34

Good morning everyone!
Coffee & tea in respective pots and a nice stack of buttered toast here for you.

Today's mission is to carry on doing what we have started to do over the last 2 days which is great because Mullared and SBB you will be able to look at babysteps 1 & 2 and catch up. Just follow my links from the last 2 days and you will find them.

Today's mission will help you get through your front door.

I have found yesterdays' holiday mission as well as todays - these will have to be cut & paste jobs as they are tucked away at the bottom of an e-mail

HOLIDAY SUPER CRUISING MISSION #2

Today is the day to dive into your linen closet for 15 minutes. Put away all the Thanksgiving linens and make sure that you have sheets and blankets ready for any guests that you will be having for the holidays. This is really easy if you just cleaned up from Thanksgiving. Get any table linens ready for your Holiday meals and also make sure that you have plenty of dish towels and bath towels laundered and ready to go. Set that timer! We are FLYing!!! Make a list if you need to purchase anything new.

HOLIDAY SUPER CRUISING MISSION #3

It is Anti Procrastination Day!! You are to go on a Flinging Mission! Grab a small trash bag or one of those plastic grocery bags, make friends with it as you are going to carry it through your weekly home blessing. As you enter each room when you see anything that needs to be tossed just fling it into your bag. It is amazing how much stuff we have laying around that can be tossed that we just don't take care of and before you know it a hot spot is flaring up!

Don't think too hard or obsess over this, just fling, fling and fling some more. Give yourself bonus points if you fill the bag up!! LOL!!

So far this morning I have emptied the DW and WM. My list today is
breakfast
dressed
DH up
make lunch

later
ironing
WM on
dinner
make dinner for tomorrow
10 mins tidying dining room (hall/entrance still clear from last month
hotspot in hall (table)
10 mins tidying lounge
quick wipe down in kitchen
s&s
shine sink
bed on time

Have a good day everyone!

optimistletoemumma · 03/12/2009 08:47

Morning all!
Thanks MC for the tea and toast - I need it this morning as I am going on one last big push round the local shopping centre (it is huge!) with my mum! I hope to get most of my 'big' Christmas shopping done iykwim and stay cheerful all at once!

So, today it's a small list from me although the washing is piling up as is the ironing!

morning routine done
supper?
ironing
get inhalers for DS2
school paperwork
get an early night

Where is SC???? We need to send out a rescue mission!

Welcome to all the newbies and a big wave to everyone else (haven't got time to scroll up and down remembering all the new names!)

Have a good day - catch up later....

QueenofDreams · 03/12/2009 09:29

Welcome bigboots and mullered
I'm very new at this too. I've been doing it for a couple of weeks now. I fell off the wagon at the end of last week, but I'm back on it today. My tip would be not to rush it. This isn't going to get your house spotless in a week. It takes time. I can already see a difference in my house though, and I don't even do the zones yet. I'm still firmly on babysteps

My list for today:
Washing up
wipe counters & cooker
pack away dry clothes piled on piano
laundry
clear dining table
scrub kitchen floor
clear rubbish from bathroom
quick retidy of the living room (cleaned it yesterday, but is already looking )
shine sink

Happy flying

StainlessSteelCat · 03/12/2009 09:40

Morning!

Feel like poo today, so does DD by the grizzling, and DS is a ball of mad energy ... my ambition for today is to survive it!
baby step : read the internet? that's my kind of cleaning!
Other than that, my list is:
washing x1 load
really put away some clean clothes!
take pile of junk stuff to charity shop
shopping
30 mins work (hah - not going to happen!)

Have to dash, baby getting beyond grizzling and into crying - calpol time I think.

See you later

MrsDingDongMerrily · 03/12/2009 09:40

Morning all,

Toast, yummy. Agree with QoD it is easy to overdo it at the start and burn out, I threw myself in with a vengeance last month and then had a decidedly slack spell last week, so have gone back to Babysteps. I'm struggling a bit with all the new Christmas names now, so waves generally at everyone.

Now a short list from me today again, as I will be spending most of the day at school baking with the Year1s (aargh). Made several pounds of cookie dough last night (thank goodness for food processors) so all they have to do is shape, bake and decorate. Fingers crossed!

School run - done
S+S - done
DW - done
Washing - on
Parcel up two books to post for book swapping website

  • done Shine sink Start Christmas cards

See you later

Peckarolloveragain · 03/12/2009 09:48

Just popped in to say hello then back to work.

swanriver · 03/12/2009 10:14

hello, everyone, I need to join you on this thread sometimes - don't ask..

In need of positive reinforcement for small chores achieved - the lovely ladies on my fly thread are very organised experienced flyers, and I still find I'm not making the beds - but ashamed to admit it

This morning I have done hallmission
put on laid out clothes
hung out laundry
put another load on

BUT
Now beds
clear clean washing up
wash kitchen floor
by 10.30

QueenofDreams · 03/12/2009 10:17

Well I'm not exactly off to a flying start. I've managed to do the washing up, but only by ignoring ds whinging and trying to climb up my leg. He also decided to knock over the bin and start pulling all the rubbish out. The joys of having a 14 month old huh?

swanriver · 03/12/2009 10:35

Right 10.30 and I've done
s & s on two bathrooms
put away some washing up
made two beds
5 min rescue in two bedrooms

now onto next job
get ds1 ready for appt (wash dress exercise etc (he is 9 and has broken leg and is at home till Jan ]
we are also going out for lunch to meet some friends so need to book taxi and organise my handbag money etc, find smart clothes
back at 10.50

swanriver · 03/12/2009 10:56

room rescued I more room
made two more beds
dressed smartly for lunch
ds1 is washed and dressed
found a handbag with a non-broken strap thank goodness I didn't declutter all of them...

thank you ladies
bb later when I am next in need of motivation

swanriver · 03/12/2009 10:57

oh yes and booked taxi for 12.00 phew

mummyclaus · 03/12/2009 11:04

Good to see you here swanriver. I've seen you on the other thread when I've lurked around to see what other flyers are up to

Pop in whenever you feel the need. The kettle is usually on & help yourself to biscuits

optimistletoemumma · 03/12/2009 13:34

Afternoon all!

QoD - poor you - hope your DS feels better later or has a nap so you can get on!

So far:
trawl of shopping centre done
remain cheerful and patient with 73 year old mother who talks to everyone done
ironing doing
prescription done

Got to go and get on...

SantasBigboots · 03/12/2009 13:49

Ok here goes...

Sink shined (shocked it was silver - thought sludge brown was the finish )
Kitchen and lounge and hoovered and tidied.
Downstairs loo cleaned.
Washing on and put on line (to hang limply until I bring it in still damp, when the heating comes on .

Not very long, but I've made a start haven't I?
Will do the up and dressed bit tomorrow.

MellieChristmas · 03/12/2009 13:54

Hello all,

No time to scroll etc. because DD is rather poorly. Spent 6 hours on children's ward yesterday with a temp of 41 . Got home 11.30 last night. Think she's got a uti but to confirm have to have a clean sample and then go back to ward. Am currently playing catch the wee with a whingy DD and so far 5 hours and no wee. Will be back later.
