Everyone welcome, newcomers and old(ish) flappers alike!

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

As Christmas is approaching I will also be posting Christmas missions.

I'll post links early in the morning on the relevant day while I'm making the coffee and brewing tea. There might even be toast...

Good luck!

DWCTG I am/was DWM!

Could not find a Christmas mission for today but feel free to find some more tinsel

walkthedinosaur · 02/12/2009 09:06

This is a bit of a thread hijack, but I want them all to go back to their teachers and say WTD was really cool, we had so much fun and didn't even realise we were speaking in English. At the moment all I've got is pulling names out of a hat and getting them to introduce themselves - just not that exciting for them or me really, particularly as I'm going to be doing the same thing for two days until I can get to grips with each class and their abilities.

MellieChristmas · 02/12/2009 09:15

How are they on famous people? You could get a load of post it notes and write celebrities names on them. They stick them on their foreheads and then they have to go and ask everybody one question (yes/no answers only) and try and find out who they are. Always works well, you can join in too. Will be back with more....

QueenofDreams · 02/12/2009 10:09

hi ladies.
My flying has been thrown for a loop by a teething miserable baby, a job interview, a roast dinner and now a non-functioning boiler. Argh. house is a tip again, but I need to clean so we can get someone in to fix the boiler.
Sorry I haven't caught up.

StainlessSteelCat · 02/12/2009 10:25

Wow, I'd forgotten just how much a baby can mess up your plans - which is probably why I'm here! SO far this morning I have made 3 cups of coffee and drunk 0. I have also fed the baby ... and managed to fit in a look at my dining room, and run away in denial at the dirt

wtd I'm not certain what exactly you're teaching, hope these ideas help: I've used ice breaker games like these with 16 year old student at the start of courses. Get them to introduce themselves to 5 other people, find 5 favourite sports/foods/tv programmes. You can afdapt the challenge as appropriate - and the numbers as you see how many are sat in front of you. Another one is to get them to pair up - variation on the post it celebrity idea, they have to find the one that matches them (can use colours, animals, shapes, countries ...). If they have some prior knowledge of the subject, get them to work in small groups to produce a presentation on themselves/subject. They can work at their level and you get to do base line assessment (I can spout the bullshit jargon all day long )

StainlessSteelCat · 02/12/2009 10:27

My excuse for the apalling typing/spelling is that I don't teach English . Train students to spot your deliberate mistakes ....

meltedchocolate · 02/12/2009 12:02

Im starting all over again - for the third time!! Here we go again!!

havingarudolphreindeer · 02/12/2009 12:11

Am so glad that I came on to find I'm not the only one who is struggling to get anything done with a grizzly baby.

I was up and dressed at 8am today and STILL could not get out of the house before 10am - FGS!

Things have improved slightly since then, mainly because said baby is asleep.

WTD Good luck in new job, although I think you are being rather optimistic to think that 18yr olds will find anyone over the age of 21 cool!! .

Chica31 · 02/12/2009 12:32

hi everyone, I didn't mean to post then vanish. There was an accident with a power cable in our village and we were without power for 2 days, the telephone and the internet for a week!

I have been keeping up my flying good habits and always had a clean sink!

Happy December everyone!

optimistletoemumma · 02/12/2009 13:01

WTD - think of the best party games you've played (that are clean!) as an adult and adapt to fit! You'll probably find you completely over plan! Take chocolate ( or hand out raffle tickets and give prizes!) then you'll be cool ( according to my teenagers!)

optimistletoemumma · 02/12/2009 13:06

Posted too soon!

Today:
quick house rescue ( never mind room rescue!)done
sort out present list for shop tomorrow
write cards
wrap pressies for godchildren to give to their mum when we have a girls weekend away...
washingdryingironingwashingdryingironing etc
sort massive hot spot on landing
supper?piri piri chicken and couscous

Gone off track again. What would flylady say/
Anyway I have:

Taken latin and Staistics books to school in the next town as requested by DD
Stopped by in fab Waitrose to do a top up shop and while I was at it nipped into TK Max for some pressies!

I'll try my original list this afternoon!!
See you all later.

mummyclaus · 02/12/2009 13:39

Hi everyone - quick lunchtime peek to say welcome to meltedchocolate! Chica well done for keeping flying with no power. Thank goodness you live somewhere warm.
OM at piri piri chicken for supper. I might manage sausage casserole or lasagne tonight

Good news in the Claus household - the dishwasher has been mended! No excuse for not having a super shiny sink tonight
Also good news on the work front. I have been offered 2 days a week working from home on a 2 year promotion so I would only have to go into the office 3 days per week. That would mean I can actually take DS to school and collect him on those days which I can NEVER do atm. Just need the boss to ok it which is not guaranteed as we don't have enough staff here some days but I have offered to be as flexible as possible so I've got everything crossed.

Loads of waves to everyone else. See you later (saw a recipe for egg-nog on a food thread...)

Plutothatpresentdown · 02/12/2009 13:44

WTD Get the students to form small groups (3 or 4 in each). Give them each a different phrase or place name like "The Hanging Gardens of Babylon" "Spaghetti Junction" "Waiting" "Playtime" etc etc and get the groups to make a tableaux of the phrase they have each been given. Then pick a student(s) from another group to talk spontaneously about the other group's statue / sculpture in role as if they are an expert in an art gallery / historian / commenting on the artefact in front of them.

OR - make them do a news broadcast in which they explain the events of a nursery rhyme or fairy story and interview the various characters.

MiniMincemeat · 02/12/2009 13:47

Hi All

Day off today and DS sleeping upstairs so I'm having a cup of tea, cooking today and tomorrow's dinner and, most importantly catching up here!

OM of course you can come to dinner but I think I might join you for your piri piri chicken, yummy!

I am getting a bit confused with all the Christmas names even though you've all done brilliantly at keeping them fairly recognisable. Has SC (AKA CTGH) gone AWOL or just gone incognito (pretty distinctive posting style so I think the former).

Spent the morning walking up and down between the doctors and the health centre and the pharmacy (forgot to pick up the prescription the first time)! And went to the supermarket but forgot to get eggs for our usual Wednesday lunch of boiled eggs (v difficult to make without eggs)!

Things I must get done today:

  • buy gifts for overseas family otherwise they won't arrive in time for Christmas
  • make sure all clothes are at least washed for weekend trip (for people that have been here for a while we are going to visit the friends that we had to cancel coming to us in October)
  • make photobox album as Christmas present

The cleaners came today, thank goodness so I just have to keep things clean and tidy. I do need to do A LOT of IRONING though so you know what you need to do ladies!

WTD I hope you get some more sleep tonight before your first day in your new job - and good luck.

Welcome back MC!

Have a great day everyone...perhaps we need to start planning our virtual Christmas dinner!

Plutothatpresentdown · 02/12/2009 13:49

mummyclaus · 02/12/2009 16:45

Hi all - just had a quick check down the thread and realised we seem to have lost tibni and well as StillCounting. Are they lost under a mound of tinsel, or here and in disguise?

mummyclaus · 02/12/2009 16:51

Who else is missing in action - Annabel?

DontEatMountains · 02/12/2009 17:59

Ok, thank you for all the christmas name ideas and will come back to them but as i have had a crap day and feel even worse using this form now. Not here for a bit as having RL issues In school and out so will be back when ready. If anyone finds a cure for aspergers meltdowns, lack of sleep and too little time in the day could you send it my way.

Tis the season to be jolly happy flying and pamering. can we stick the tree somewhere appropriate on the fat fairy for christmas day?

MiniMincemeat · 02/12/2009 18:39

Hey DEM, sorry to hear you are having a hard time. Will be thinking of you lots and we're all here when you ready xxx

QueenofDreams · 02/12/2009 19:36

Hi again ladies
Well today I have:
Done the washing up
cleaned counters and cooker
swept kitchen
Cleared rubbish and clothes from living room
hung nappies to dry
put laundry on
Emptied the bin

Still to do:
Finish tidying living room
sweep living room
shine sink

StainlessSteelCat · 02/12/2009 20:38

Evening

After good start yesterday, back to normal today. Managed my list apart from the 30 minutes work ... that will end up getting bumped into next week at this rate, but so be it. Am about to go and shine wash my sink, then I'll be vegging out on the sofa with a notebook, pen and chocolate thinking up ideas for xmas.

see you tomorrow

pushmepullssantassleigh · 02/12/2009 20:49

Evening everyone

DEM Sorry to here you're having a rubbish time . My BIL has some form of ASD and still has the spectacular meltdowns that you would typically associate with a toddler. Must be so exhausting to live with it all the time. Hope you're feeling up to coming back soon

MM I think this has been said before, but can I come to yours for tea?

We had pan fried salmon and steamed leeks. Tomorrow will probably be pasta with caper and anchovy sauce and mixed veg, blue cheese and walnut bake on Friday.

Working today (unbelievably stressful private sector no money hell), but at home tomorrow awaiting promised decluttering. Today's list (all done)
washing * 2
dishwasher *1
restack dishwasher
clean kitchen floor
wipe kitchen sides
bath the baby (it is very much a chore atm )
morning and evening routines
5 minute living room tidy

MulleredOnWine · 02/12/2009 21:31

Hi
Newbie here. Can I join you? And can I check how this works? You(MC) post a small thing to do each day and a mission and we have to come up with our own List of other things - is that right? What should be on the list, big things, small things or anything? Am hoping this changes my life!
