Trillian - how did the job interview go?

TrillianAstra · 24/04/2009 08:34

Yes we are definitely all 'highly intelligent and tres amusant'

Job interview went well, the people who interviewed me seemed nice and I could see ymself working there. Apparently they had a lot of applicants though so I will hear by next week if I got to the second round of interviews.

The job was very near a friend's house so popped round for a cup of tea that magically turned into wine on the way back

Today's list:

drink tea and MN DOING
take DP's thesis to be bound (he is bribing me with creme eggs)
get things from Boots
re-pot chillis
empty bins
hoover?
tidy
pack to go to parents

Hello Slatterns! I can't read everything I've missed, only read the last page and a bit.

Plum about your dog

TA - fingers crossed about the job

CWWM - have you complained to the nursery

Well I have been officially rubbish at keeping up with this thread. We had DS' naming party at the weekend which went well so that's a good thing. I've been diagnosed with depression though which is not a good thing but explains why I've been finding things so hard.
Anyway, on with the list - going to try and use this thread to help me pull myself together!

Today
Up and dressed
DS breakfast - done
Me breakfast
Unpack internet shop - done
Unload dishwasher
Mop hall and kitchen floor
Hoover upstairs
Sort out ongoing list
Make something nice for dinner
Put away piles of stuff on spare bed
Wash nappies
Wash sheets
Change our bed

FAQinglovely · 24/04/2009 10:57

Ali - do you know how the slatterns thread came to be?

It was because I had depression, and I got fed up of reading all these threads with people asking about how to clean various things in the h ouse that wouldn't even register on my radar, and especially reading of people that did certain things on a really regular basis.

My house was falling to pieces around me and I felt like I was acheiving nothing in the day.

So I started making some lists - including things such as "get dressed", "get kids to school" "make dinner" - because at the end of the day if I'd "done nothing" I could look back and see - well actually I did do something, if I'd done "nothing" the children wouldn't have been fed and taken to school, I wouldn't have been able to go and buy milk if I hadn't got dressed etc etc.

I still have days when the motivation is gone - and all the "housework" is left untouched - but I can at least look back and say well I did do "something"

Comewhinewithme · 24/04/2009 10:57

Ali and WME (((hugs))) sorry you have both been having a rubbish time (I know we don't do hugs on MN but sometimes they are allowed ).

CC You are busy today .

DP has mentioned the water this morning and they are going to make sure she has a drink . If it had been one of the bigger ones I would have told them to remember to drink but she is only 3 and has other things on her mind . Like getting back to the sandpit .

Just waiting for HV .

CWWM - did Dp complain?

TA - good luck re the job. love the magic tea-turning-into-wine, doesn't happen too often anymroe but used to! have one mum here that i know would be up for it, just a shame we end up having to drive toddlers home, lol!

right, peed off with Dh who promised all manner of things for this morning (last minute morning off) which turned into him having a long bath (he had asked me if it was ok but he doesn't normally take that long!) and then checking his messages from work leading to work

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 24/04/2009 11:14

FAQ I didn't - and that post from you has just made me cry, in a good way though.

WME - hope you are ok

CWWM - I know we don't do hugs, but I will accept one very happily!

JKS - that is very annoying of your DH, and oh so familiar!
I am hoping it will help to have recognised there is a problem, I do feel that it's a step forward.

FAQinglovely · 24/04/2009 11:27

yea that was it - they were rather "selfish" threads in chat irrc, "come and help me get sorted" type ones - and a few people would add their lists.

Not sure when we graduated over to the "Good" Housekeeping LOL.

The whole thing just sort of evolved and here we are today.

Some people just like writing lists and zoot through the whole list every day (or at least 99% of it), some of us still struggle to get even a fraction of it done.

I have to say it does make me when I see posts from people saying it's helped them - as I set it up selfishly for myself to try and get myself out of the blackest hole I've ever been in during my life - so it's nice to know it's helped others as well as myself

FAQinglovely · 24/04/2009 11:33

right - now where was I with my list LOL.

The sun is out (again) so it's helping my motivation >

  • Boys up and dressed DONE
  • Boys breakfasted DONE
  • Me dressed DONE
  • School run DONE
  • Dishwasher loaded and on
  • Washing - including bedding and towels 2 loads done (1 - maybe 2 including my bedding left)
  • Drying 2 loads on line
  • Ironing
  • Lunch
  • Pack DS's things for weekend
  • Dinner...........for one grin
  • Watch Apprentice (on catch-up TV)
  • Study
Comewhinewithme · 24/04/2009 11:41

Well I say it all the time but the lists have helped me no end I actually like doing the housework now .

FAQ you should write a book or sell the list idea to channel 4 and become the next Kim and Aggie . Going round the country helping women sort their lifes out .

Like you said Ali at least you are taking positive steps wrt the depression.

JKS dp mentioned it to nursery they are going to make sure she drinks today .
for you at DH !

Right HV been and was really nice and she took her shoes off before she came in so my housekeeping skills must be on the up because she has never done that before .

DSIS has peed me off a bit but ho hum !!

TODAY

Eat breakfast done
Pay rent done
Tidy downstairs done
Get dressed done
Health visitor coming been
Washing and Drying started
Wait for stuff to arrive done
Make beds done
Dinner
lay on sofa and enjoy silence
school run
tea

claireybee · 24/04/2009 11:46

FAQ it's definitely good to include the basics such as get dressed etc on there. I know after ds was born and screamed non stop sometimes those things didn't get done, or not without a lot of effort. People might think they are too obvious to include on a list but forget that actually, it isn't always a given that they'll get done, especially in difficult circumstances such as depression or a demanding baby.

Also being able to tick them off kind of pushes me on to get the other jobs done too

It also means that certain things are on my "do everyday" list which NEVER happened before (quite often the pots from the night before would still be sat there the following evening or I didn't vacuum for days etc) but now my house is usually ok for visitors after a quick tidy round

I sometimes put things on my list that I know need doing but really have no intention of doing...it has happened that seeing everything else all ticked off makes me do those bits too.

Haven't even done list today, think will go for lazy day...

Get up& dressed - DONE
Breakfast - DONE
Hoover - DONE
Put sofa covers back on - DONE
Load washing machine and set going - DONE
Hang out washing - DONE
Wash up -
Clean loo - DONE
Wipe round kitchen -
Upload pics to fbook - trying to do but it isn't working
Lunch -
Ooh I don't even have to cook dinner tonight cos we have leftovers to use up!

FAQinglovely · 24/04/2009 12:05

and it's easy to forget just how much time the basics can take up.

For example "school run x 2" for me is an absolute bare minimum of 1hr - that's assuming we race there (15 minutes) get them dropped off and head straight home, and then race to pick them up, get the super promptly and head straight back without talking to anyone/going into the office/waiting for DS1 to come out a he's taking his time.

In reality it' probably more like 1 1/2hrs a day just on "school run" - and if DS3 wants to walk back - add at least another 45 minutes (one way)

wastingmyeducation · 24/04/2009 12:06

Yes thank you FAQ!

Hope you get the help you need Ali.

  • Tidy hallway
  • Mop floor
  • Lunch, clear up
  • Aunty coming round, drink tea
  • Me shower

wastingmyeducation · 24/04/2009 12:08

Oh and thanks for hugs CWWM! I think they mean more on MN, as they are so rarely given.

FAQinglovely · 24/04/2009 12:37

really need to sort myself some lunch, get the dishwasher on (to make sure there's clean bottles for DH to use this weekend) and iron some clothes (to make sure they have clothes to wear at DH's).

May give the rest of the washing a miss - it's just bedding and towels and I could do that tomorrow - forecast is dry again so will be able to dry outside...............
