How many of you eat at the table as a family as opposed to in front of the tv???

I prefer to as it seems to keep the front room free of spills, cumbs etc, also like to teach the kids table manners and have a conversation. DH agrees but also doesnt see the harm in occasionaly eating in the front room sat on couch. What does everyone else prefer?

Table every day for every meal for us

ilovetochat · 12/02/2009 16:20

dinner is always at the table, lunch is normally on the settee, breakfast is at the table in the week, dp does breakfast in the lounge at the weekend.

MrsMattie · 12/02/2009 16:20

Almost always eat at the table. No harm in the odd 'pizza' night in front of the telly, though.

serenity · 12/02/2009 16:21

We sort of do both

Table is in the living room (no dining room). We chat but often have Doctor Who, or whatever on at the same time. We're a multitasking family

Habbibu · 12/02/2009 16:21

As a family we eat at the table - if it's just DH and I we may eat in the living room. As dd gets older, I imagine we'll eat every now and then in the living room, but it'll be the exception, and quite rare.

cluelessnchaos · 12/02/2009 16:22

We always eat at the table but not always together, we are rarely all in the house at a set teatime, although I wish we were.

TheInvisibleManDidIt · 12/02/2009 16:23

Most nights at the table. Some nights if Dh or I in later, we'll have dinner together in front of tv. Fri night is pizza night and that gets eaten with a dvd.

VictorianSqualor · 12/02/2009 16:24

We eat at the table together every day, every meal.

DD/DS1&2/DP have breakfast together, I am normally doing stuff in the kitchen with them, just not sat at table.
Lunch, me and the DS's sit at the table and dinner all of us at the table.

If there is a playdate or DP is on a late shift the children eat together at the table and then DP&I eat together at the table.

DP and I might snack on the sofa in the evening, but never eat a meal there. I wouldn't mind, just us, but neither of us could bear the children eating anywhere other than the table. Too messy.

MrsSchmaltzyMerryHenry · 12/02/2009 16:24

Table every day for us. Twasn't always so, though. Having a child has civilised us.

CrackerNut · 12/02/2009 16:24

Table every day except Sat evenings when we slob in front of the tv.

shootfromthehip · 12/02/2009 16:25

I eat every meal with the kids at the table. DH works late so eats his in front of the TV

SmallShips · 12/02/2009 16:26

Table when we are eating with the DC, if its just me and DH we tend to eat on the sofa. Breakfast and lunch at the table too.

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 12/02/2009 16:26

Table every evening except Saturday which is pizza and tv/DVD night.

muppetgirl · 12/02/2009 16:28

Every meal at the table

breakfast - 3 of us (ds 2 in bed as already quite clearly not a morning person at 15 months and we get up at 6.15am)

lunch -all (if at home and not school/work/nursery) If just ds 2 and me, then still the table

tea -ds 1, ds 2 and me (dh at work)

dh eats his later at the table

we don;t have tv in the kitchen and ds 1 thinks he's in heaven if he gets so much of a biscuit in the playroom (never in the lounge...)

PrimulaVeris · 12/02/2009 16:29

At the table

Though most weekdays DH and I eat later and separately - me at table, him on sofa

He also maintains it is a human right to eat in front of TV when the footie and Coronation street is on

Grammaticus · 12/02/2009 16:30

Table. In fact we were once at a talk where the speaker mentioned eating in front of the tv and DS1 said "Like that's ever going to happen"!

Merrylegs · 12/02/2009 16:31

Never ever eat in front of the TV! Always at the table. Even if I am on my own I eat at the table. Otherwise I think you're not concentrating on the food and then you kind of forget what you are eating and finish without noticing and then you can end up feeling hungrier quicker.

The kids would be if they were allowed to eat a meal in front of the TV. It never happens - and they never ask. They always like to sit at the table. (13, 11 and 8).

(Although they do munch popcorn and m+ms if watching a dvd. Like to recreate the old manky cinema feel at a fraction of the price..)

bellavita · 12/02/2009 16:32

Table for us every night.

TheCrackFox · 12/02/2009 16:33

Table but TBH isn't always an enjoyable experience.

skay · 12/02/2009 16:36

Prefer at the table with no TV. Together.

Occasionally have left TV on and the children just keep craning their necks to see what's on.

The one time I let DS eat in the front room wew were at my MILs, he was messing around, knocked his plate, (we were having Curry) and had the entire contents all over the carpet! I was not pleased! The Haldi stains still haven't come out and that was over two years ago.

Marne · 12/02/2009 16:41

We would sit at the table if we had one , not enough room in our small 2 bed house as dd2 sleeps downstairs.

wheesht · 12/02/2009 16:42

We do. Keeps all the mess in one place!

janeite · 12/02/2009 16:43

Dinner is always at the table and around six nights out of seven is all of us together. We rarely have lunch at home but if we do, it is sometimes at the table, sometimes elsewhere but no TV. Breakfast is usually on the settee with breakfast news, except for me as I have mine when I get to work. This is why the TV is allowed at breakfast, as I am not there to enforce anything different and dp and I have very different views re: television!

JackieNo · 12/02/2009 16:44

99% of the time it's at the table, at least when we're all together. Occasionally for a treat they can have lunch or supper in front of the tv, and DH and I sometimes eat there if we're eating after the DCs have gone to bed.
