How many of you eat at the table as a family as opposed to in front of the tv???

I prefer to as it seems to keep the front room free of spills, cumbs etc, also like to teach the kids table manners and have a conversation. DH agrees but also doesnt see the harm in occasionaly eating in the front room sat on couch. What does everyone else prefer?

table for all three, except if lunch is nibbly and i'm busy with work then it's on the coffee table in front of cbeebies.

marcolini · 13/02/2009 09:57

Always at the table as it's easier to serve the meals and clean up (I'm sometimes feel like a waitress!)

Cies · 13/02/2009 10:05

We have a living / dining room, and occasionally watch the news with supper. But always from the table. I hate eating on the sofa, I feel really uncomfortable.

Jux · 13/02/2009 10:10

Table always, but we have a TV in the kitchen so it is sometimes on as well.

MascaraOHara · 13/02/2009 10:12

DD doesn't eat dinner at home during the week as she's fed at childminder but when she is eating a meal we eat at the table when I eat alone during the week I tend to eat in front of tv.

Weekend meals are round the table but sandwiches for lunch - location varies

stealthsquiggle · 13/02/2009 10:13

We always eat at the table - but with the TV on at supper time until/unless DS goes square-eyed at which point it gets switched off. If we have visitors we eat either in kitchen or dining room - either way with no TV.

Amani · 13/02/2009 10:13

Table always - except sat night we put the kids to bed and then a take-out in front of telly/dvd

Nearly always at table. Dh and I love the family mealtime thing. Was big for us as children and we like it.
Yes we have pizza infont of the tv, with ds, sometimes. But not very often.

Pawslikepaddington · 13/02/2009 10:36

We hardly ever eat at home as food is cheaper in the dining room, so when we do it is a friday night slob on the sofa.

Saying that, we live in a middle class area with middle class friends and no one I know eats at the table for every meal, so this thread is going wrong somewhere! Even if the kids sit to the table, the parents don't, which isn't REALLY what sitting to the table is all about really is it?

mrsdisorganised · 13/02/2009 10:39

We all sit at the table for meals and the TV is always off.

jemart · 13/02/2009 10:56

always at table, except for occaisional pizza.

basementbear · 13/02/2009 11:02

The DCs eat every meal at the table - breakfast with me (DH already at work)
lunch (at weekends, everyone together)
tea during the week with me.

We have a very small flat and not room for a big kitchen table, but we got a brilliant pull-down table from IKEA (I think) - it looks like a very thin cupboard but the table top folds down and there's just enough room for the three of us at breakfast and tea. At weekends we have to re-arrange the living room a bit so that we can sit around the table all four of us

JODIEhadtoomanymincepies · 13/02/2009 12:12

Breakfast - DS1 eats in front of tv so he's quiet while I sort out DS2, DH, dog, me....

Dinner, 99% at table, but once a week DH and I wait for kids to be asleep before we eat (more civilised that way! ) so TV dinner for DS1 then and dinner and a movie for us later on.

shoneshine · 13/02/2009 13:05

WOW almost everyone sits at the table, our parents and grandparents would be proud! Was worried I might offend someone but was just wondering. Thanks everyone! Xx

Table every meal monday - friday if DH is home in time for dinner with the boys. If not we have dinner later in the living room. At weekends we always have breakfast and lunch altogether at the table but not dinner so often, though I am making more of an effort to cook a roast on a Sunday to have altogether.

I've found that it makes a huge difference to ds1's eating when we're altogether. He'll tuck in much mre happily to a wider range of food
