Advice please!

2 dogs, 4 cats, 2 dc. All hard floors downstairs, carpets upstairs.

Please, please tell me I really need one

Go on, get one!
I want one, can't justify it though.
Get one, do it!!!

sparklytinselbella · 01/12/2008 21:40

I like your sentiment, Deeja.

Just need a wee bit more hard evidence before I present to dh though

sparklytinselbella · 01/12/2008 21:44

Oooh - only 50% in favour so far.

It's balanced on a knife edge!

Who will tip the balance?

NotanOtter · 01/12/2008 22:03

cheap in costco

£125 +VAT

wohmum · 01/12/2008 22:05

i bought the cheap version - and its ok - but takes FOREVER to hoover a room! was a bit disappointed tbh.

BellaKissedSanta · 01/12/2008 22:09

66% against.

33% for.

wheresthehamster · 01/12/2008 22:11

I love my roomie.

Quite high maintenance - cleaning out the brushes etc, but you can get on with something else while it's cleaning (or just watch it of course ).

Best used daily or every other day, then use a normal vac for cobwebs and stairs.

It's also cute and friendly - like a pet, but one that picks up the hairs instead of shedding them

NotanOtter · 01/12/2008 22:11

thats the cheap version NOT the roomba

you need to get over to the roomba threads - we HEART Phillip

BellaKissedSanta · 01/12/2008 22:13

Who is Phillip?!

EachPeachPearMum · 01/12/2008 22:21

Are they good with hair? No pets but DH, DD and I all have long ever-shedding hair

NotanOtter · 01/12/2008 22:28

hair not been a problem put it that way...

EachPeachPearMum · 01/12/2008 22:32

Can they get right up to the skirting board?

EachPeachPearMum · 01/12/2008 22:33

Oh- and can they do hard floors too (thinking of kitchen tiles)

wheresthehamster · 01/12/2008 22:35

Well, they flick the dust out from the skirting boards with a set of revolving brushes that stick out the side.

Suedonim · 01/12/2008 22:35

I've been impressed with my Roomba, Felicity. She copes with dd's long hair and does a better job on our ancient bedroom carpet than any other vacuum we've had. I got the £99 basic one. The woman in the shop said loads of people had come back in to say how fab Roombas are!

NotanOtter · 01/12/2008 22:35

yes and yes

they are not faultless and every fortnight or so you may still wish to use dyson BUT day to day they are fab

take a LOT more charging than i thought BUT i am still very much more pleased with mine than i anticipated

ToughDaddy · 01/12/2008 22:39

Researched and bought the Roomba560 on sale for 209 + 39 for 4 year comprehensive cover. Will try the concept and then consider the robot mop.

ToughDaddy · 01/12/2008 22:41

Intention is to time the Roomba do work whilst we are out at work.

EachPeachPearMum · 01/12/2008 22:42

mmmmm- does anyone know the energy consumption then?
Am trying to be greener

NotanOtter · 01/12/2008 23:02

costco have 560 for £125 plus vat

cheap leccy dp says

BellaKissedSanta · 02/12/2008 10:38

Thanks all!

Have looked for the other Roomba threads with little success, and still dying to meet Phillip

Two questions:

  1. Will my cats try to kill it and get accidentally sucked in?
  1. Is the 560 worth it (and how much is it btw)?

TIA

NotanOtter · 02/12/2008 17:20

bella costco have it for 150 all in

no cats will avoid!
