How to clean shower screen

Hi, our shower screen has some horrible marks all over, it. I've attached a (rubbish) photo. It looks like it's covered in drip marks when it's dry; it actually looks better when it's wet! What can I use to clean it? I've tried the following:

Lemon juice, with and without baking powder
Vinegar, with and without baking powder
Glass cleaner
Limescale remover
Cream cleaner
Bathroom cleaner
All purpose cleaner

And none of them have touched it. What am I doing wrong?

You need a pumice stone. Make sure both the glass and the stone are soaking wet and then rub away at the lime scale. It comes off like butter and leaves the glass brand new. If the stone is wet there'll be no scratches

Interdiamond · 17/02/2026 11:27

Either that or you can scrape it off with one of those razor blades scrapers. But the stone will be much quicker

Parsleyforme · 17/02/2026 11:28

Lots of viakal, let it sit then scrub it off with a non-scratch scrubbing pad. If that doesn’t shift it then scrape with a glass scraper and repeat the above. When it’s clean use a daily shower spray to prevent marks coming back and scrub once a week.

Have you just moved in? Or how often is it cleaned? When I moved into my house I thought the glass was frosted but nope, just limescale build up

Loughrigg77 · 17/02/2026 11:28

Thanks @Interdiamond I'll give that a go!

If you live in a hard water area I would also get a tub of citric acid for the kettle, shower head etc. They sell it at Asda

NooNakedJacuzziness · 17/02/2026 11:32

A Scrub Daddy worked incredibly well on mine, even without additional cleaning products. I’ve since stocked up, they’re amazing!

Loughrigg77 · 17/02/2026 11:33

Thanks everyone. We are in a hard water area (meant to mention that in the original post but forgot!) It's been like that since we moved in; I do clean it regularly but the lady who lived here before us was disabled so she probably couldn't keep on top of it

I also live in a hard water area and recently bought one of these cloths theyvare fantastic no need to squeegee just wipe down after the shower. I'm not sure they will get it all off but once you've got it clean they will stop it coming back.

This used to drive me insane!

I've recently had a new shower with glass screen installed and I'm using one of those window vacuum things after every use. Touch wood, so far so good.

When you manage to get rid of your limescale, I recommend using one afterwards, although you'll probably spend as much time 'vacuuming' as you do showering!

RelishingGrpSupport · 17/02/2026 12:12

Viakal!

OtherS · 17/02/2026 12:35

In stupidly hard water area and I've found the HG limescale range the best with a good scrubbing brush, though I haven't tried pumice. I also use Buy Method Daily Shower Cleaner | Official Shop after every shower, just a couple of quick sprays after shower and good as new. Also lasts forever.

goz · 17/02/2026 12:36

Now all I need is a light wash with fairy liquid and a window vac, but in London the water was so hard I used to spray it with vinegar and then blade it off th glass.

forgotactually · 17/02/2026 12:37

Definitely Viakal, it’s brilliant.

Loughrigg77 · 17/02/2026 15:50

Thanks for the comments. Viakal made no difference unfortunately but sounds like I need to scrub it more than I have done. I've ordered the pumice so I'll give that a go first. Thanks again 😊

I'm admittedly not in a hard water area but I use these on my shower screen and they come up gleaming.

Following as I've been trying for YEARS to get marks like this off and have tried everything. The previous owner was a slattern and replacing just the doors seems impossible without taking apart the whole bathroom according to several quotes I got from shower glass enclosure companies (who provide just the glass not even tiles or builders so they have no incentive to put me off the work).

failtegusslan · 17/02/2026 17:07

Must have ideas have a cream called 'nanna's secret'. That got rid of the bulk of it for me - like others id tried loads of things before that. Then I use shower screen spray on the glass after every shower to keep the marks from coming back

Lovemycat2023 · 17/02/2026 17:08

Just be careful if you use the acid option - we live in a hard water area and our cleaner did that quite a bit, and one day a screen shattered on her.

Once it’s clean I would recommend a squeegee plus a magic cloth.

JBJ · 17/02/2026 17:09

HG limescale remover and a nail brush is what I’ve found most effective, then a wipe over with glass cleaner.

Pinepeak2434 · 17/02/2026 17:11

Once it’s off you need to ensure you wipe it down with a window squeegee after you’ve showered as that will prevent the build up of limescale.

I'm with you OP. I've tried absolutely every suggestion to get my shower screen sparkling and nothing has worked.
I don't even live in a hard water area.

I recently bought HG limescale remover as their products have always been great - but it didn't work.

mellicauli · 17/02/2026 17:17

It may be soap scum rather than limescale. If so try vinegar mixed with washing up liquid.

Have you tried a blade?

RaraRachael · 17/02/2026 17:21

@goz No I haven't. Any specific kind of blade?
