How to clean shower screen

Hi, our shower screen has some horrible marks all over, it. I've attached a (rubbish) photo. It looks like it's covered in drip marks when it's dry; it actually looks better when it's wet! What can I use to clean it? I've tried the following:

Lemon juice, with and without baking powder
Vinegar, with and without baking powder
Glass cleaner
Limescale remover
Cream cleaner
Bathroom cleaner
All purpose cleaner

And none of them have touched it. What am I doing wrong?

I tried everything then I got a tip on here to use fabric softener like comfort or Lenor with a scrubby brush. Weirdly it worked!. Also shaving foam and hydrogen peroxide (not all together)

Viakal but leave it in for 20 mins.

@Whatkindoffuckeryisthiss thanks, I've got one of those in the cupboard. @Peridoteage yes I clean regularly, but the screen was like that when we moved in.

@CherryRipe1 I'll try that as well thanks

The limescale may have etched the glass and you can't do anything about that

This is what I've heard. Mine is similar - not cleaned by the previous owners of my house, so I thought it was frosted when I moved it. I'm in a very hard water area, too

I have tried all of the things suggested on this thread, and none of them have made any difference at all, I've just spent a load of money on multiple things! And I always squeegee (so it's not got any worse, which is something I suppose !)

I'm going to replace it.

Got a similar problem here OP, I also tried everything and when the viakal almost gassed me without doing anything, I gave up and just cleaned without attempting to remove the limescale.
Until I tried the Nancy Birtwistle cleaner with the citric acid. It cleared a stain that had built up for years caused by a leaking shower fitting. Got most of it off in one go, the rest came off with a couple of extra treatments (we are talking stalagmites here).
It cleans the shower screen where nothing else will. I think the shower screen has been etched, because all the usual things mentioned here only work temporarily, but the magic cleaner makes it like great for a while.

harpic power plus

or pink stuff - apply and leave for 10 then wash off.

Sarah24x · 18/02/2026 17:27

Pour bleach all over from the top and leave for 10 mins then scrub with a sponge and water. Mine rotates so I douse it with the shower head on both sides.

Gets all the marks off.

I’m in a very hard water area - I would say it’s basically a war of attrition. You need to be removing more limescale than is being laid back down.

So you need to dry off your screen every time, then keep on adding some form of limescale dissolver, regularly. Even though it may not look like it, you will be making it a bit better each time as long as you keep drying off your own shower use.

Also Lakeland scrubbing brushes really help too

Use a spray with one part Isopropanol Rubbing Alcohol and one part White Vinegar.

The razor blade scraper is the only job I think. On the glass and tiles.. it’s like skin peeling off. Yuck. But it works

I used that in my old bathroom. Very Hard water area . After 6 months no effect - guess weekly clean rubbed it off…still left watermarks anyway, just easier to clean

but hey, if her screen can get that bad, worth a try once clean…

I just moved to a softer water area…problem solved…bit expensive to do that though 🤷‍♀️🤣🤣

It's amazing what a change in hard/soft water can do! Even my wild hair is slightly more manageable in a soft water area! 😁

Darls3000 · 18/02/2026 19:39

The absolute best thing is to use fairy liquid and a a kitchen sponge. It’s miraculous. Genuinely.

Fadeintoyou · 18/02/2026 19:46

I’ve just installed a Hello Klean shower head after being sucked in an insta, it was mainly because my hair is so much better when visiting my DM who lives in a soft water area.

My hair feels lovely now and my curls have bounced back properly but the other great thing is that the shower screen, after I’ve cleaned has stayed that way.

It's difficult for a limescale remover to work its magic on a vertical surface. A tip I’m pretty sure I got from the Finnish woman who cleans and is all over social media platforms (Aurikatariina) is to wet thin cloths (like old teatowels) or kitchen roll with your descaling solution and ”papering” your surface with that. Helps it stay on the vertical surface. I used vinegar on kitchen roll just the other day to slap on a mirror in my bathroom that’s too close to the shower and gets limescale drops. Took maybe five minutes? You can’t let the paper dry obviously or it won’t come off ;).

She also covers cleaning agents with clingfilm so they can work for longer without drying out and becoming useless. So soaked towels papered on and covered with clingfilm could be good too.

Barkeeper’s Friend. Bloody amazing. Tried everything else, thus is the only thing that worked.

TheCosyRain · 19/02/2026 20:22

I had this problem once. Harpic toilet cleaner is what shifted it in the end! You have to be quick and not let it sit too long but it will definitely work

Offcom · 06/03/2026 08:22

Did anything work in the end @Loughrigg77 ?
