How to clean shower screen

Hi, our shower screen has some horrible marks all over, it. I've attached a (rubbish) photo. It looks like it's covered in drip marks when it's dry; it actually looks better when it's wet! What can I use to clean it? I've tried the following:

Lemon juice, with and without baking powder
Vinegar, with and without baking powder
Glass cleaner
Limescale remover
Cream cleaner
Bathroom cleaner
All purpose cleaner

And none of them have touched it. What am I doing wrong?

Once its clean M&s shower screen cleaner is amazing. After shower just spray on the wet screen and walk away, its so good I made my dp admire it and he was genuinely impressed after two uses.
Literally spray and thats it no rinsing, no wiping nothing.

I’d use viakol. I can’t imagine a pumice is good for glass. It may scratch it.

@goz No I haven't. Any specific kind of blade?

It looks like this, you can get it from any hardware store, b&q, the garden/ DIY section of places like B&m or super markets usually have them too!

They are the best tool, glass or ceramic hobs and shower screens are so easy with it.
Even a bit of dried in food on hard floods under the table if you have kids!

I use Cilit Bang. I spray it on, spread it out and leave it while I scrub the tub. Then I wash the shower screen and use a handheld window wiper to get the excess water off like a window cleaner uses? I also use this wiper after every shower.

Pumice will scratch glass. It can only really be used on porcelain like a toilet bowl or sink.

minipie · 17/02/2026 17:40

I would try some sort of gel or cream form limescale remover so it doesn’t just drip off like the spray ones. Leave on as long as possible.

Paint scraper (with razor blade) is also a decent idea. You have to keep the blade totally flat to the glass to avoid scratches.

Pumice stone sounds very risky to me.

And once it’s de scaled… squeegee after every shower. Seems a faff and then becomes habit.

MrFluffyDogIsMyBestFriend · 17/02/2026 17:49

I think Viakal is very toxic judging from the smell, so I'd leave vinegar on for ten minutes or so and then use wire wool. Then use Method shower spray after every shower. I'm feeling a bit smug because my new bungalow has a water softener although I didn't replace the salt and my shower screen looks like yours.

MymblesMother · 17/02/2026 18:01

I live in a hard water area and use viakal (the liquid gel one - I haven’t seen it in supermarkets for ages so bought a box of 10 from Amazon)

Jesswebster01 · 17/02/2026 18:30

Try the hg limescale foam spray works wonders. I live in a hard water area. Spray it at the top and let it run down then leave for a bit wipe off and repeat it will go eventually.

ThePoshUns · 17/02/2026 18:33

Another vote for a scrub daddy and pink stuff cream in the squeeze bottle

ChrisMartinsKisskam · 17/02/2026 18:36

I use method or lidl bathroom cleaner
but I clean it quickly every time I use it

Once’s it’s clean dry it with a towel
and the same for the tiles it will get ride of any black spots caused by the water

blooooooor · 17/02/2026 18:36

Cif and scrub daddy sponge 🧽

TheeNotoriousPIG · 17/02/2026 18:56

I read on here that, once you have managed to get rid of the limescale, you should apply Glaco (a glass coating, usually for cars, that repels water and improves visibility) to keep your shower screen clean and clear. You apply it, leave for 5-10 minutes, and then buff off with a microfibre cloth. After that, leave it to cure for 12 hours, and then it's set, and is said to last for around six months. I have only applied it to my shower screen this weekend, so we'll see how that goes! (I intend to apply it to my windscreen, too, but the car needs a good wash first...)

Studyunder · 17/02/2026 18:57

Have you cleaned both sides? I use a karcher with vinegar and water

Lemondrizzle4A · 17/02/2026 19:14

Which recommended: couple of spoonfuls of citric acid( buy on Amazon) in spray bottle. Can buy spray bottles at B and M or Amazon. Spray on screen leave a few minutes then scrub with no scratch scourer. Spray again then wipe with squeegee or even better Magic Wipe drying cloths, they are expensive but brilliant, available on Amazon.
I wipe down my shower after every use with the magic wipe cloths.

DancingFerret · 17/02/2026 19:21

We live in a hard water area and invested in a water softener (the type that uses salt). It won't clean your shower, unfortunately, but once you've managed to clear it, keeping it clean is a doddle.

Lovemycat2023 · 17/02/2026 19:31

Whatever spray you use make sure you have the door and window open so you don’t gas yourself! Esp risky with combinations

Sgtmajormummy · 17/02/2026 19:59

As others have said, Pink Stuff cream and a scrub daddy. Twice if necessary. After that, diluted citric acid spray left on for as long as possible, rinse abundantly and use a squeegee every time you shower.

Sunshineandrainbows23 · 17/02/2026 20:07

mellicauli · 17/02/2026 17:17

It may be soap scum rather than limescale. If so try vinegar mixed with washing up liquid.

Second this. 50/50 solution. Leave for at least 15 mins first go before scrubbing. After that, keep a dishmatic sponge in shower filled with above solution and use to clean shower while you have conditioner in your hair or whatever. Then rinse.

I also recommend Method daily shower spray for maintenance.

Good luck!

NancyBlackettt · 17/02/2026 20:16

Brillo pads 👌🏼

mambojambodothetango · 17/02/2026 20:24

You need to squeegie it EVERY TIME you shower without fail. We have done it religiously with ours and 10 years on it still looks moderately new.

Willyoujust · 17/02/2026 20:27

Buy a tub of “The Pink Stuff” and scrub it with the rough side of a “Scrub Daddy.” It will come straight off.

scrapple79 · 17/02/2026 20:30

Hey, former house cleaner and I have seen worse than that in my London cleaning days. It’s limescale and three things will shift it.

  1. Viakil, leave to sit for at least 30 mins
  2. a Brillo pre filled soap pad
  3. elbow grease.
Then to stop it coming back, quickly spray with a shower screen spray then use a window cleaning squeegee after each use.
Shallana · 17/02/2026 20:40

The Pink Stuff is the only thing that works for us.

double0seven · 17/02/2026 20:48

2 adults in home
Bar Keepers friend ( powdered not cream ). Wet the shower screen and apply the powder then scrub with a green scouring pad. Rinse and dry then apply HG shower screen protector.
I do this every couple of months.
After a shower we always wipe the shower screen down with a squeegee and turn extractor on for a few minutes
