Fledglings Marching Into Spring - Flylady Mar 25 Thread

ExtraDecluttering · 28/02/2025 19:38

February has ended here with a beautiful sunny day, washing dried on the line, daffodils out and now of course it’s Spring and that traditionally means cleaning. If you're looking for something simple to start that can be easy to add to over time, Flylady may be the answer for you! This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in.

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - unless you want to end up with a very cluttered inbox

There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.
There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism! Her motto is “you are never behind”

Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.
Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
Tuesday: plan & play
Wednesday: anti-procrastination
Thursday: errand day
Friday: clean car & purse out a week. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
Saturday: family fun day
Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:
LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
LMS: lose/lost my shit
DNLMS: did not lose my shit
There are more, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications. You can also modify the tick lists to suit your home & lifestyle.
Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight for you:
Launch Pad: https://www.flylady.net/d/new-links/

ED yes, the links work for me! That's a relief that the website will be still up and running (and hopefully better than it is now!).

I have a few things I want to get done today, on my day off.
Must get off mumsnet if I want to accomplish anything today! The sun is shining, it's supposed to be a lovely, really warm day today, that should help motivate me to get things done. I'll try to be back with a ta da list later. 🍒👋 to everyone!

HazelNotHungryLC · 25/03/2025 22:16

Ta das:
🌞 rotated DW
🌞 deep cleaned both bathrooms
🌞 LOLs x5 (including sheets & mattress protector)
🌞 general tidy, put lots away
🌞 swept carport
🌞 cleaned mirrors
🌞 cleaned glass on doors to outside (x3)
🌞 bank
🌞 put clean clothes away

Today was very scattered, but I was okay with that! I saw what needed to be done and did it.

It is such a beautiful day outside! I have been airing out the house all day. When DH gets home tonight we are going to work out in the garden.

ExtraDecluttering · 25/03/2025 22:35

Well done @HazelNotHungryLC that's a lot of jobs done.

@DillyDeclutter hope the sickness bug had abated. My colleague had to take the day off today because her DC had gone down with one, not much fun.

@70isaLimitNotaTarget you reminded me that I needed to hoover up some dried cat food too.

Tada!
✅DW emptied
✅cats fed

Morning!

Wednesday is Anti-procrastination day, so if there is something you have been putting off, try and do it today. Our mission is to dust the decorative things in our living rooms, photo frames, vases, nick nacks etc.

Yesterday was a busy day, had to drive 150 miles in the morning to pick DD up from somewhere not manageable by public transport, work in the afternoon, exercise class in the evening. Not much flying done but I did send the robovac round and put the DW on as well as line drying and putting away one LOL. It was such a lovely warm day here.

Today I'm off to work and more exercise classes this evening (cardio and yoga). Have unloaded the DW, filled birdfeeders and fed cats.

OP posts:
HazelNotHungryLC · 28/03/2025 05:03

I ended up procrastinating yesterday 🤦‍♀️ but today I made the phone call I put off. It took less than 5 minutes and all sorted!

I had DS mostly cook dinner tonight, which was delicious 😋 but other than that, I did nothing as I was at work all day.

ED you've reminded me, I need to fill my bird feeder as well! I actually need to find a good spot for it though, as where it usually goes is not going to work right now. So I'm sure that'll wait till this weekend.

ExtraDecluttering · 28/03/2025 07:45

I think I need to move one of my bird feeders too, they were getting destroyed by jackdaws and squirrels so I bought a squirrel proof one but no little birds seem to be using it either. I have 4, the others seem to be getting used, but as I am out so much I don’t always see who is feeding on what. I’m off work today so I will keep an eye on what’s going on out there.

Friday is clean out your bag and car day, I will do that, I have got rubbish in the car to take to the tip later and will then run the vac round it. The boot needs a clear out too, it has far too many bags for life in it plus some charity shop stuff.

It is also Date Night. We don’t have anything planned, to be honest Friday is normally flop on the sofa night here as we all go out a lot in the evenings Mon-Thurs.

The Flight Plan for the day is here
https://myemail.constantcontact.com/Your-Flight-Plan-for-Friday-.html?soid=1120012284937&aid=7K5kjf2QFfs

The mission is to spend 15 mins decluttering the living room. These Flight Plan links are long but it is worth skimming through as there are some useful snippets and explanations.

Todays babystep is to remember to take care of yourself, eat well, drink enough water, get some rest.

HazelNotHungryLC · 28/03/2025 15:20

We won't be having date night here tonight either! I have a cheesecake to make for tomorrow and DH has to go move my ILs camper to a new storage. It got broken into recently (was discovered this week) and things missing in a supposedly secure storage! 🤬

ExtraDecluttering · 28/03/2025 19:09

Oh no @HazelNotHungryLC that’s a horrible thing to happen, hope insurance covers it or that the storage place is liable.

Tada!
✅DW on
✅bird feeder filled (again)
✅cats fed and watered and brushed
✅tip run
✅charity shop run (small box of Christmas decs)
✅something else given away on FB
✅shopping (High St, am trying to support local shops so fill up store, hardware store, butcher and florist plus M&S for Hot Cross Buns)
✅optician to pick up new glasses
✅allotment to drop off some plants (hopefully get back to plant them over the weekend)
✅shed tidied (wasn’t too bad)
✅house plant (peace lily) divided into 5 and re-potted.
✅three lots of seeds sown
✅robovac sent round
✅bins emptied
✅couple of hotspots vaguely looked at and one or two things binned
✅sourdough loaf made ready to go in the oven tomorrow morning
✅online yoga class
✅dinner made

OP posts:
HazelNotHungryLC · 28/03/2025 22:56

Unfortunately that's a no for both. They can use their home insurance but the deductible makes it not worth it! 🤬

I didn't know you could split a peace lily! I have one and it hasn't bloomed for a few months, could that be why? Too crowded?

ExtraDecluttering · 28/03/2025 23:01

Oh that is annoying! Yes, they grow little plantlets. If it looks as though leaves are coming out from more than one place in the pot then that's what has happened. I let the soil in mine dry out, then lifted it out of the pot and gently rubbed most of the soil away, the roots are long and tangly and you can carefully separate them out and re-pot them all.

OP posts:
HazelNotHungryLC · 28/03/2025 23:02

Oooh, that's good to know! Thank you 😊

ExtraDecluttering · 29/03/2025 07:00

Up early today, needed to go to the loo and my rule of thumb is that if it’s after 6 the cats are allowed their breakfast. It’s a beautiful day today, a bit of frost and sunny.

✅cats fed
✅last night’s washing hung out
✅another load of washing put on
✅DW put on (DH and DD loaded it last night but didn’t think to switch it on 🙄)
✅sourdough bread put in the oven

DS is coming home for a flying visit for uni this weekend for a hockey match. I’m going to visit my parents. DD is going to work and DH will probably go to archery. So we are all having our family fun day separately, although DD’s doesn’t really count as fun, she likes her job though.

Babystep 29 is Taking Care of You - pampering. I am going to do my finger and toe nail polish this evening.

OP posts:
HazelNotHungryLC · 29/03/2025 13:48

That does sound like a great day in the ED household!
I had to remove my nail polish on Wednesday as it was peeling and chipping really badly 😢 since then, I haven't painted them again, so giving them a little break. I have filled them so they're neat and have been putting cuticle serum on at night.
I may get to redo mine today, and probably should do my toes again too!

YesTaDas:
🎂 DS did the home bleugh
🎂 I made a strawberry cheesecake after work (it actually didn't take very long!)
🎂 showered, scrubbed, shaved and applied self tanner
🎂 put gifts in gift bags (3 of them!)

I'll be making a dip this morning (prepping it for the oven).
We are having a surprise birthday party for DHs brother, we don't see them very often. It's at ILs house so I'm heading over to help decorate, and bringing the cheesecake!

LaMarschallin · 29/03/2025 14:17

So pleased that the FL website isn't disappearing.
I'm all over the shop with my various missions, but the main thing is they're getting done.
Monday will be family fun day with a visit from DD and DGD, so I did the ground floor part of my home blessing today (did upstairs on Thursday). DH is cooking supper today so my time was freed up anyway.
I have anti-procrastinated like a good 'un, from little things like filling up my handbag sanitising gel from the big one in the medicine cabinet to big things about organising pensions and such like.
I'm awful at managing money and the latter had been hanging over me for ages.
Feel so much better now!
I'll take a leaf each out of Hazel's and ED's books tonight and do my nails.
Happy FLYing all 😊

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 30/03/2025 21:40

Our bedding washed dried on the line , put back
DS bedding washed dried on the line , put back

My hair dyed (even though I was going grey , I started using a tiner then I thought , I;m going back to semi permanent for a while )
Armpits waxed

Bins sorted for bin day

Loads of holiday washing and sorting out clothes done .

I recycled some of DS shirts to Charity Shop ( still good condition but outgrown ) so bought him some new ones.

Mothers Day - I made cakes and scones . Delicious .

2in2022twoyearson · 31/03/2025 06:46

Yesterday we had a fun day out. This morning I woke up just before 6 thinking the clock change will mean I'll have some time up and getting my morning routine done without early riser ds. But then came a little 'hello mummy'. Last week I'd been letting him get up at 5 rather than insisting he stayed in bed a bit longer so I kind of shot myself in the foot there. I rarely manage the baby step get fully dressed and ready as soon as I get up. I normally do that when DH has finished walking dog and is doing breakfast with ds.

ExtraDecluttering · 31/03/2025 07:26

Morning all,
@2in2022twoyearson I rarely manage the get dressed first thing babystep either, our only bathroom is downstairs so I do often so my shower and contact lenses early but often potter about for a while before going back upstairs to get dressed. Our garden is quite secluded so you will often find me out there hanging out the washing etc in my nightie. I draw the line at going out the front door in it though, I keep my oodie downstairs and will put that on if I find I’ve forgotten to put the bin out or need something from the car.

@70isaLimitNotaTarget well done on all the laundry, clothes sorting etc, I am starting to go grey but only a few at the moment (hair is dark brown so they show). I’ve never properly dyed it but am using toners from Superdrug to blend it in a bit. It is a dilemma though, they don’t really cover the greys.

@LaMarschallin well done on the anti-procrastination work, pensions is on my list too, I need to contact the pension-wise people I think, I have several occupational ones and I think it would be easier (and possibly cheaper) to merge some of them. But I keep putting it off too, it’s an effort digging out all the relevant info for them (some are online, some only paper still).

@HazelNotHungryLC I did my fingernails (bright coral) but only got as far as polish removal and trimming my toenails, maybe I’ll do them tonight.

We had a nice weekend all doing our different things. The weather was so gorgeous and the extra hour of daylight much appreciated yesterday evening, DH cooked a roast dinner and we all carried our plates out to the patio table to eat which was so nice.

OP posts:
ExtraDecluttering · 31/03/2025 07:31

Monday is Home Blessing Day, empty bins, change beds, dust and run the vac round. If you have time, I’m going out straight from work so probably not (certainly not!) but will attempt to slot it all in over the week.

Flylady is moving us into Zone 1 early today https://myemail.constantcontact.com/Your-Flight-Plan-for-Monday-.html?soid=1120012284937&aid=7CVIo19Bups

So we are back in the hall, porch, dining areas. Our mission is to sweep the entrance area, shake out the doormat and wipe the front door.

It’s the end of the month today. I feel as though I only really got into my stride in the last week or so what with all the website mishaps so I don’t mind carrying on next month but would appreciate someone else taking over in May if that’s OK.

OP posts:
HazelNotHungryLC · 01/04/2025 06:40

Thank you ED for continuing with April as well. You've done well running the thread, especially with the broken website!
I'm sorry I haven't contributed as much as I would've liked, I just didn't get much done 😳

ExtraDecluttering · 01/04/2025 07:34

Sorry, I meant to get the new thread set up last night but got busy doing my fantasy football team and forgot will do it shortly.

OP posts:
2in2022twoyearson · 01/04/2025 08:19

I'll keep an eye out for the new thread. I woke up before ds, too early though, I'm worse than my children at adjusting to clock changes. It meant I did my morning routine and had time in the bathroom and journaling. So self care rather than housework but I did unload the dishwasher, reload it and clean the kitchen sink and now I'm calmer before work. I'll need a nap after lunch though I'm sure.

2in2022twoyearson · 01/04/2025 08:20

I think that's the wrong way with clock change actually I should want to lay in... insomnia then.

ExtraDecluttering · 01/04/2025 09:21

Actually I think I'll do it this evening as it takes a while and I'm at work now. To tide us over here is a link to today's flight plan

https://web-extract.constantcontact.com/v1/social_annotation_v2?permalink_uri=https%3A%2F%2Fconta.cc%2F3E3Gv6O&image_url=https%3A%2F%2Fmlsvc01-prod.s3.amazonaws.com%2F9043fe5c401%2F14f995d4-fdb0-4624-9562-c96f8ec471be.png&fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR3JC80hVYAxE3_0a8WxqkXoUv5eZ_4FR9mytN6qtPra-mjim-RTsjQjKy4_aem_QE5qJba77Y0uD1D9AwLx8g

Our mission is to spend 15 mins decluttering in zone 1, porch, hall, dining room.

April's habit of the month is making your bed. Or at least turning it back to air, so long as it looks neat it makes the whole room look better.
