February has ended here with a beautiful sunny day, washing dried on the line, daffodils out and now of course it’s Spring and that traditionally means cleaning. If you're looking for something simple to start that can be easy to add to over time, Flylady may be the answer for you! This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in.

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - unless you want to end up with a very cluttered inbox

There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.
There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism! Her motto is “you are never behind”

Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.
Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
Tuesday: plan & play
Wednesday: anti-procrastination
Thursday: errand day
Friday: clean car & purse out a week. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
Saturday: family fun day
Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:
LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
LMS: lose/lost my shit
DNLMS: did not lose my shit
There are more, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications. You can also modify the tick lists to suit your home & lifestyle.
Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight for you:

Morning all, well, I was out of the house for 13 hours yesterday so not much got done, my washng from yesterday is stll on the ine because I forgot to ask DD to brng it in and she didn't notice morning but it was mild and dry overnight so t feels dry, will leave it out this mornng though. Got another load to go out shortly, have hot-spotted the hall table, about to re-boot the dishwasher.

Friday is clear out your handbag and car day, neither of those are too bad aat the moment so I am going to carry on with hot-spots as they seem to have sprung up everywhere.

Looking at the Flylady FB page there is indeed a mention of hotspots today so that’s worth a read, for the mission she suggests cleaning the windows in the master bedroom and bathroom. I might do that, we have a wndow cleaner but I haven’t done the insides fofr far too long.

Friday is also Date Night. DH is away till Sunday so DD and I will be havng a quiet night in by ourselves, I want to watch more of Adolescence and/or Sort Your Life Out. I am going out with friends for coffee this morning though which will be nice.

ED that was a busy day!

I have done nothing since Tuesday! DS did the home bleugh & x2 LOLs today though (Friday).

On a side note I really need to get my mind back into eating right and exercising more. I'm starting to feel more peri symptoms and really crappy, something that is very new to me. Night sweats anyone?!
Meal planning is definitely a must from now on, along with meal prep as needed.

Scourgify · 22/03/2025 08:17

Cleared out car and handbag on Thursday afternoon while waiting in school carpark. Usually tidy both of these each day, but there have been too many distractions this week. Car boot still needs a clear out.

In my bedroom I have one chest of drawers with paperwork both on it and in it. I can look through that this weekend.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 22/03/2025 17:32

Ta Das

Yesterday :
4 loads of washing some if it hung on indoor rails as I washed it late evening
Rain this morning so no laundry done today
Vacuumed bedroom/hall/stairs/landing . DD room needs done but she can do this after picking up the floordrobe
Made cakes with Peanut Butter Icing and spent the evening and night with heartburn Envy
Picked up a prescription
Admired some tiny signs of growth in he garden
Bought some storage jars for my laundry pods ( IKR , quite PonceTastic ! ) I use mainly powder (bio) but for non bio the capsuals are nice and less temptation to over do it )

Today -
cleaned the kitchen bargeboards ,
Made soup carrot &leek) very nice
Whinged about the aforementioned heartburn ( a lot) .
Tidied my make-up drawer and got rid of some things
Couple of things to go to Charity shop on Monday

ToDos:
make up another batch of OverNight Oats ( it is surprisingly nice , I've been put off porridge in the past , no matter how good it is for me , I cannot ) OverNight oats with soya milk and greek soya yoghurt . I have apple with mine (no chai seeds though DD has in hers )
Steam clean kitchen floor
Put an LOL on
Put cream on my feet tonight and socks for an overnight treatment (oh the glamour)
Get my haircut (then dye it )

ExtraDecluttering · 22/03/2025 20:34

@HazelNotHungryLC meal planning is the one thing I really have never got on top of, everyone here is fussy and we all go out a lot and often at short notice in the evenings, so it’s all very random. I’ve been fairly lucky with meno stuff (I’m late 50s) but do get the occasional night sweat in summer, not nice, I do think healthy eating probably helps with symptoms. I eat a lot of seeds now - like @70isaLimitNotaTarget I do overnight oats and have a lot of seeds in them. I make them in jam jars, a layer of oats and milk, then frozen berries, then ground flax seeds, greek yogurt, maybe a tiny bit of honey or maple syrup and then mixed seeds. I know you are low carb so probably wouldn’t do oats but the seeds and yogurt do mix well.
@Scourgify I really must sort some paperwork too.

Well, I haven’t done much in the house today, but I went to the allotment, where I have one of those storage boxes which is also a bench. I haven’t cleared it out in years and it had got to the point where I couldn’t find anything and the lid kept popping up as it was so full so I emptied it, had a total sort out, brought about half the contents home to go to the tip tomorrow (broken tools, old packaging, manky gloves etc) and made the rest all neat and tidy. I had to rescue a slowworm from in there too.

ED this past week has seen too many carbs pass my lips and I've paid for it. I had acid reflux, along with heartburn last night, just like 70 followed by a night sweat 😓 I'm hoping I sleep better tonight, although it's later than I wanted to be to bed.
I definitely don't have the acid reflux when I'm following low carb, so I'm really focusing on that.
I did scrub, shave and apply self tanner tonight though, which is why it is so late.

Your clear out made such a difference ED! Hopefully you'll be able to find what you need know.
Scourgify well done on clearing out your car and handbag. My Jeep actually got some love today! I helped DH do the oil change on it and then we finally put the remaining seat covers on it. He also changed out the fuse so now my seat warmer works again!

I'm not entirely sure of the plan for tomorrow, but I really should get some of my goodies started at least. I'm donating some for a fundraiser for jazz band that DS is in.

2in2022twoyearson · 23/03/2025 06:40

@HazelNotHungryLC I got up with toddler same time you went to bed! Hopefully you can get a Sunday lie in.

@70isaLimitNotaTarget I love overnight oats. I've not made them for a couple of weeks but I find they help me not snack in the evening if I prepare tomorrow's breakfast! I like to vary it. Sometimes I have peanut butter. My favourite is with chia seeds, chopped walnuts and dates, started to add maple syrup as well but starting to be more like a pudding than a breakfast.

Yesterday I did 2 lol, took DD swimming, did some study, kept my kitchen sink clean....not much else.
My plan for today:
Put away washing
Clean bathroom.
Clean pet gecko enclosure
Review and update, and follow my morning and evening routine. Read baby step 23, review any missed baby steps...

Fill up bag of toys for charity shop. DH just vetoed a toy my 2yods agreed we could take to to charity shop. I still haven't admitted years ago I took to a charity shop a creepy talking doll, parents in law got. He mentioned it again when we had our second...its the only thing I've lied about. In laws buy lots of toys, often big and noisy and DH doesn't want to chuck them. My family are conscious about toy clutter and don't buy noisy electric toys/ always ask what we want.

DH has a half marathon today. I'm not sure what I'll do. Kind of want to stay home with kids but discussed with ds(6) what we should do. We couldn't decide on anything but she wants to go out and I said she could have a treat this weekend if she was better behaved this week and she has been. Soft plays are booked up or closed... maybe a national trust place but it's raining.

HazelNotHungryLC · 23/03/2025 13:57

2in2022 thankfully I'm 6 hours behind you, so went to bed at 11:45pm! I can't do all nighters anymore 😂
That would be frustrating to have a DH that doesn't agree on getting rid of things (mainly DC toys) so I'm sorry you're going through that with him. What did you tell him happened to the creepy doll?
As far as what to do today: Is there a local Cafe that's open for afternoon tea? Would she like that? Swimming pool?

2in2022twoyearson · 23/03/2025 14:21

That it must be on one of the toy boxes in the attic.

HazelNotHungryLC · 23/03/2025 14:38

😂😂 I hope that continues to work!

I am determined to get some things done today so figured I'd type out a to do list today!

To dos:
🍬 LOLs
🍬 peanut butter truffles (centres) & freeze
🍬 oreo truffles (centres) & freeze
🍬 bathe the dogs
🍬 vacuum (ILs brought their dog over last night and he sheds a lot)
🍬 spin workout
🍬 soak in the hot tub
🍬 general tidy up

2in2022twoyearson · 23/03/2025 14:59

Also re my little girl, this morning she asked if we could have a quiet day at home, so I was very relieved. We went to Hobbycraft and I bought some craft supplies.

Scourgify · 23/03/2025 21:36

Completed one paperwork task today. Have fallen behind a lot with that. Trying to do one each day.

HazelNotHungryLC · 24/03/2025 04:53

Ta das:
🍬 LOLs x5
🍬 made peanut butter truffles centres
🍬 made oreo truffles centres
🍬 bathed dogs
🍬 vacuumed
🍬 rotated DW
🍬 handwashed dishes
🍬 watched 2 movies
🍬 redid my nails
🍬 got my lunch ready for tomorrow

HazelNotHungryLC · 24/03/2025 05:00

2in2022 I'm glad it worked out in the end with DD, did you have fun with the crafts?

Scourgify I have to get caught up on paperwork too. I still need to buy more expanding files for previous years paperwork!

ED I forgot to mention that the yogurt and seeds sound good, I don't usually need to eat breakfast, but every once in a while I do. Or even as a treat 😋

2in2022twoyearson · 24/03/2025 05:47

Yestadas:
Put away washing
Cleaned kitchen sink
Looked at my routines and did the majority of them.

Still to do today:
Clean out gecko
Clean bathroom

ExtraDecluttering · 24/03/2025 08:56

Morning all, sorry, forgot to post earlier.

Perhaps not surprisingly, the Flylady FB page has a message saying they are going out of business Sad. I guess there are so many housework / lifestyle influencers now that they haven't kept up, with their old fashioned website etc. I am going to download and save some of the lists while we still can. I hope we can keep these threads running.

In the meantime, we do finally move into Zone 5, the living room today. The mission is to go sofa and chair diving.

Monday is also home blessing day, where we change beds, dust, vacumm, empty the bins.

I have at last found a downloadable version of the babysteps https://www.flylady.net/d/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/31-Beginner-BabySteps2262015.pdf

Today, no 24 is an important one, swish and swipe for our bathrooms. Give the loo a quick swipe, the basin/vanity a quick wipe and put away anything that's been left out, do this daily and make your bathroom visitor-ready.

OP posts:
LaMarschallin · 24/03/2025 09:08

That's really sad.
I feel a traditional site like FL's does have a place as it's about how to get the housework done, regularly and without thinking too hard about what to do next, as you've got your chores listed. Bad enough doing them, I don't want to spend time thinking too! 😄
It's certainly worked for me.

I'm not very interested in sites showing me how to doll up bits of my home - I can do that myself as long as it's clean.
It's funny - I noticed the other week when looking for some spray polish that it was quite hard to find the one or two types of polish stocked, but there was a massive amount of different air fresheners! Seems like a similar symptom of covering over/prettying up rather than cleaning.

I have the FL book so hope I'll be able to follow that instead but I hope we can keep the threads going as well.
Many thanks for this one, ED.

Nellieinthebarn · 24/03/2025 12:17

Just checking in, week 5 of covid, although I really think I'm on the mend at last. Its just the cough and tiredness hanging around now.

My house is more or less a complete disaster, everything needs doing, but between us DH and I are managing to stay fed and clothed. I am planning on starting again in April, thats the aim.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 24/03/2025 13:51

Oh very sad about the website .
There are loads of influencers/cleaning gurus/cleaning hacks whatever they are calling themselves now .
I do like a List , if I write down even the tiddliest thing then it's a sense of achievement to think Yes. Done that
Even though "Empty the bathrooom bin" takes longer to write than to actuall empty Grin
I;m not Low Carb @ExtraDecluttering ( sadly I am way too carby ,) but low fat ( as I have no gallbladder ) and low dairy .
I have a Love/Hate relationship with peanut butter though fine with nuts generally . Peanut butter is always going to give me heartburn unfortunately , I can maybe have a spoonful at breakfast but later in the day - nope .

The oven needs cleaned but I'm going to ignore it for now .

TaDas :

bins put out for collection
Bed sheets/pillowcases/duvet cover washed and drying
Charity shop bag to go

ToDos
Pick up the cat foot that has scattered onto the floor before it becomes an ingrained pattern .

HazelNotHungryLC · 24/03/2025 16:57

Oh no! That's awful news about them going out of business! I like the plan of flylady and setting up routines and zones.
I do feel we can keep these threads going though, just without links. I will add to my notes that I already have for flylady to include baby steps and detailed cleaning.

DillyDeclutter · 24/03/2025 18:35

Looking at the fb page, i think she's continuing the website and Facebook group, just stopping the selling dishcloths etc.

The system has helped me a lot, my house is surface messy but it doesn't take long to bring it back into line these days. Not that I've done much in March. April will be better!

We've had another sickness bug so 3 Lols wsshed and dried, three more queued up. Two beds stripped and remade (in the middle of the night). Happily it's been good weather today.

ExtraDecluttering · 24/03/2025 20:54

Hopefully that’s right, but the website has been so broken for ages now. I watched a video from a few days ago and it was a bit painful, she doesn’t sound well and her DH sounds very frail. It can’t take much to keep that website going.

OP posts:
ExtraDecluttering · 25/03/2025 07:37

Phew, you are right @DillyDeclutter its just the selling side that’s going. Hopefully the new website won’t be too long in getting launched.

https://myemail.constantcontact.com/Your-Flight-Plan-for-Tuesday-.html?soid=1120012284937&aid=qYG2MsvuIJc

Do these links work? I have taken it off the FB page. Scroll right down for the daily tasks. Today, in the living room we are taking a good hard look at the clutter on our flat surfaces. Things that might have been there forever, nick0-nacks, photos, that sort of thing. Do you still love them? Could you let some of them go? We have some floating shelves above our TV corner that have had the same old stuff on for years, they aren’t strong enough for books but the photos of the DCs on there are very old now and I keep thinking I need to re-think, but can’t put anything heavy up there. Really the whole room needs gutting and redecorating, new stronger shelves etc. We also still have a few DVDs etc. Hmmm.
