Fledglings Marching Into Spring - Flylady Mar 25 Thread

ExtraDecluttering · 28/02/2025 19:38

February has ended here with a beautiful sunny day, washing dried on the line, daffodils out and now of course it’s Spring and that traditionally means cleaning. If you're looking for something simple to start that can be easy to add to over time, Flylady may be the answer for you! This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in.

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - unless you want to end up with a very cluttered inbox

There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.
There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism! Her motto is “you are never behind”

Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.
Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
Tuesday: plan & play
Wednesday: anti-procrastination
Thursday: errand day
Friday: clean car & purse out a week. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
Saturday: family fun day
Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:
LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
LMS: lose/lost my shit
DNLMS: did not lose my shit
There are more, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications. You can also modify the tick lists to suit your home & lifestyle.
Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight for you:

Also, I have a paper diary because I find it comforting.

ExtraDecluttering · 14/03/2025 23:26

We have used synced calendars on our phones for years now but I still like to use a paper monthly planner in my bullet journal as a visual aid, being able to see a whole month at a time helps me get it into my head in a way a phone screen can't. But phone calendars are definitely the primary ones for us.

HazelNotHungryLC · 15/03/2025 14:21

Hi THAT 👋 Set your timer for 15 minutes to do something (anything), then put your feet up! It's Saturday, family fun day! Do you have anything planned?

THATbasicgirl · 15/03/2025 15:52

Ive actually done quite a lot round the house today but im feeling deflated. Ive got this big house to prep for sale and no one to help. Im working over 40 hours a week and doing most of the kid related stuff too. 😫

2in2022twoyearson · 15/03/2025 19:19

Family fun day - we met some family in a cafe for lunch DD had great fun, ds started feeling poorly, and has a temperature and is lethargic since getting home. Before DD swimming lesson this morning I had half an hour so moped the floor kitchen floor after ds had a potty mishap. It was disgusting and long overdue, shamed to say I found a plate with mouldy food pushed into a hidden corner. But now it's clean. I think we're far enough along potty training to take the potty out of the kitchen. We don't have a downstairs toilet and it's all carpeted which is why it's been in the kitchen.

HazelNotHungryLC · 16/03/2025 20:56

Oh THAT I'm sorry to hear that, I would totally come help if I could!

2in2022 good job on cleaning the kitchen floor!

So yesterday was full of me baking, cleaning up, baking, cleaning up, baking some more and so on.. we had our family birthday dinner last night, for DD, FIL and me. I baked cupcakes for FIL, cake for DD while DH ordered a cheesecake for me.
It all turned out really good!

Today is DDs birthday, she's now 21! We're taking her out for dinner tonight, now she can legally drink here.

Today I actually have some ta das:
🎂 rotated DW
🎂 handwashed dishes
🎂 put away birthday gift bags & tissue paper (I reuse these)
🎂 put away my birthday presents
🎂 had birthday cake & coffee with ILs, after getting in the hot tub with them
🎂 took a nap!

I'm needing to redo my nails, so will get on with those in a few minutes.

ExtraDecluttering · 17/03/2025 07:11

Morning all al a belated Happy Birthdays to @HazelNotHungryLC and family members 🎉

@THATbasicgirl aarggh, that sounds really hard. All I can suggest is take it a tiny bit at a time no one would convict you if you bopped him over the head.

Hope DS is feeling better @2in2022twoyearson well done on the floor etc.

Sorry to have been AWOL over the weekend, DS has been visiting and we’ve been busy.

We should move into Zone 3 this week, the bathroom and one other room. This is the detailed cleaning list for this zone https://www.flylady.net/d/zones/detailed-cleaning-zone-3/

I would suggest start today by decluttering any empty bottles, pick up any loo roll cores that your teens have rolled into corners etc.

Monday is Home Blessing Day, that is our weekly reminder to change beds, empty bins, dust and run the vacuum round, but not necessarily all at once.

HazelNotHungryLC · 17/03/2025 12:21

ED we celebrated our birthdays a little early actually, so that SIL & BIL could celebrate with us. DDs birthday was yesterday, FILs is tomorrow, mine is Wednesday 🥳

As of right now I'm supposed to work on Wednesday, but I'm going to see what time off I have left, I might take it off instead!

Scourgify · 17/03/2025 20:06

Retreated from the world a wee bit last week, as emotionally battered from Teen troubles. Things are gradually being put in place, although expecting kids to engage can sometimes result in much door-slamming and yelling. One now has a reduced timetable, and much as I want to support, I just wish they could both be normal for a while.

Managed some more garden tidy. Tiny bits of kitchen are improving. Decided today to go through lifestyle books and recipes. Keeping my mum’s rationing recipe books. Seem to have lost half the school shirts I bought at the beginning of the school year.

On balance, some small wins.

ExtraDecluttering · 17/03/2025 23:03

Ah, Happy Birthdays for the right days then @HazelNotHungryLC hope you manage the day off.

@Scourgify that all sounds hard re teens, don’t blame you for retreating a bit, well done on the small wins.

I’ve been out all day 8-8 ish and that included giving blood so I have given myself a night off flying to recuperate, it seems the older I get the more blood donation tires me out, I have to be careful not to get up too fast or I get light-headed. Back to it tomorrow.

OP posts:
HazelNotHungryLC · 18/03/2025 02:03

Thank you ED! As of right now I'm off on Wednesday, however I'll see how I feel tomorrow, I might decide to go in, it will be a slower day. Today though? Oh hell no am I going into that shithole on Wednesday! It was that kind of day!

I'm starting to feel like I'm getting run down though, so an extra day off might be needed.

I wish I could donate blood, however, I'm not allowed to due to me living in the UK when the mad cow disease (or it's actual name that I can't remember) was rampant. I can't donate when we visit either as I've been in the states within a year of donating. It sucks. My dad donated a lot of blood throughout his years and I wanted to follow suit, but it's not meant to be 😞

Scourgify that really does sound tough re teens. Thank goodness for small wins though, they really make a difference as they add up.

ExtraDecluttering · 18/03/2025 07:39

They keep changing the criteria all the time @HazelNotHungryLC I didn’t know about travel to the USA being a block here (I rarely leave Europe) but yes, there are a lot of people who would like to donate who can’t. So I go because I can really, it does tire me out for a day or so but nothing major. I am on 63 donations now.

Tada!

✅fed cats
✅cleared litter trays
✅Put away the heated airer - we never really use it since we got a heat pump tumble dryer and are using the line much more now the weather is getting better.
✅Decluttered the bathroom of bottles, loo rolls etc
✅ Made packed lunch
✅put empty milk bottles out
✅got bin back round from the front.

It is chilly out there, 2 degrees and a frost but sunny. Off to work shortly. I think I could do with a day off to tackle the house TBH.

So Tuesday is meant to be plan and play day in Flylady-land.

I had a fairly good planning session at the weekend, and my play is going to choir tonight, I must stick my practice list on in the car this morning.

We are still in the bathroom and one other room, this might be multiple bathrooms, a spare room etc.

Today I suggest cleaning all the horizontal surfaces in the bathroom properly, move any plants, baskets, whatever and get i nto the corners. We don’t have much storage in ours apart from shelves so that takes a while as there are a few holders for various things as well as a couple of plants.

Other suggestions for this zone here https://www.flylady.net/d/zones/detailed-cleaning-zone-3/

Back to babysteps - we are on Day 18 and we can read Flylady’s 11 Commandments here https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/flying-lessons/flyladys-11-commandments/

My mum can't give blood because she had a blood transfusion after one of her births in Holland. My sister's give blood when they can but one is too small and the other has had too low iron. I just haven't got round to it, feel a bit guilty. I know I haven't got the most precious blood type. I can't remember when it is, but my dad has it and I have my mum. I should remember it...

ExtraDecluttering · 18/03/2025 16:25

I took a few years out from donation when my DCs were young, apart from not being able to when pregnant / breastfeeding childcare made it really tricky, I didn't really get back to doing it regularly till they could be left home alone after school. Even then it was tricky with dinner, after school activities etc.

Morning!

https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-19/

Babystep 19 is a testimonial and a reminder about our routines. I don’t stick too all the routine suggestions but do find outting out clothes and anything I need when I leave the house in the morning the night before really helps.

The Flight Plan page still isn’t working, I am starting to wonder if FLylady has retired Sad

Anyway, I will suggest that in the bathroom(s) today we give the taps a really good scrub to get rid of grot and limescale. In another room maybe 15 mins of decluttering. I have just spend 10 mins decluttering DS’s room (he is at uni). Just bits of rubbish, odd socks etc picked up, nothing major,

2in2022twoyearson · 19/03/2025 08:03

Thank you @ExtraDecluttering

I will do the bathroom today. I woke up at 5 feeling awake and well rested. It was already getting light, which makes a big difference after a winter with an early rising toddler and lots of dark early mornings. I've allredy put on a lol and hung it up. Soon we'll do the school run then to shops then a toddler music class. Shop to avoid going home between.

Then this afternoon while ds naps I will clean the bathroom as you suggested and put together some folders for my notes. I've been putting this off since September and only have 2 months of my course to go. I got the results for my assignment back, I passed, 58% when the pass is 50, so should celebrate that somehow, allthough I did think I'd got at least 60.

My routines from babysteps have gone array recently.

HazelNotHungryLC · 19/03/2025 12:58

Well I fully decided yesterday that I am taking the whole day off today, so no work for me!

YesTaDas:
🧁 vacuumed
🧁 mopped
🧁 LOLs x4
🧁 multiple naps in the afternoon!

Today's plan:
🥳 spin bike (I'm already in my workout clothes to motivate me)
🥳 soak in the hot tub
🥳 bank
🥳 shopping for clothes/ fun (not groceries!)
🥳 go out for dinner tonight, I don't ever want to cook on my birthday so we go out!

I am really tired right now though. I'll take DS to school and maybe fit a nap in before my workout!

ED I was going to deep clean my bathroom yesterday, scrub the taps etc, but it didn't happen. I might fit that in today, although it's not a priority today.
2in2022 well done on passing your assignment!

2in2022twoyearson · 19/03/2025 14:20

Happy birthday hazel not hungry. It's so warm down south here today. It was frosty this morning when I was hanging up the washing but didn't feel cold with the sunshine. Our garden is a bit of a heat trap so contemplating putting shorts on ds for the school run, but I've made that mistake before and it's more cold and exposed by the school.

DillyDeclutter · 19/03/2025 19:03

Happy birthday Hazel!

It's absolutely freezing here (very Up North) although the sunshine looks lovely. Congratulations on the exam results2in2022!

Have had a frantic week at work so far, hoping to catch up on loads tonight and tomorrow. I have three LOL to put away, the meal plan and shopping to do, some school admin (neverending) and really need to do a tip/charity shop run . . .

LaMarschallin · 19/03/2025 21:36

Haven't posted for ages, but had to say today:
Happy Birthday, lovely Hazel! 🎂🎁
You're an inspiration and especially so on the times when I'm not up to posting.
But I can jolly well manage to post on your birthday!🥂 ✨️

HazelNotHungryLC · 19/03/2025 22:30

Thank you for the birthday wishes!
It is nice to see you post LaMarschallin although I can't say I did anything inspiring today! I didn't do my spin workout, despite me wearing my workout clothes, I took a nap instead 😂

It is sunny here today, but still a little chilly. It's supposed to warm up next week, here's hoping they're right 🤞 (there's snow forecasted the rest of the week 😞)

ExtraDecluttering · 19/03/2025 22:31

It’s been lovely and warm here today (apparently, I’ve been stuck in an office all day) and supposed to be even warmer tomorrow (we’re SE). But I haven’t done any washing for three days, will get some on and out in the morning. We tend to clear it all at the weekend including bedding and towels them rest on our laurels at the start of the week and suddenly the baskets are overflowing again.

Anyway it has been a nice evening, I went to the gym after work, then out for a bit to eat with DD at the local pub, we both took our ipads to do a bit of work, we both like working in public places better than at home.

So, tada!
✅fed cats
✅scrubbed bathroom basin and taps
✅decluttered some empty bottles
✅finished sorting my car insurance (I hate doing any sort of insurance)
✅proofread a job application for DS
✅booked an event for the summer
✅paid a bill
✅did some reading for a meeting tomorrow (school governor)
✅dishwasher on
❌laundry not on (yet)

I have been investigating the issues with the flylady website. I went to her FB, it is basically selling all the flylady merch, but if you scroll far enough down the links you do find the daily missions etc, I will see what I can do in the morning. Night all.
