Another pair of my pants gone. There is a laundry here in Spain which gets me thinking we should have packed less and washed stuff. I definitely have too many holiday clothes at home. Mind you I'm really trying not to buy anything clothes wise

Wooo hooo, finally, hall stairs landing , free of clutter, all unneeded cardboard boxes in the recycling bin for tomorrow’s collection, my hobby room is pretty much back to normal and I can see the office floor (I’ve ordered a concertina file for the office and am going to have a purge on filing next week).

the garage is a bit messy but it’s got several piles and boxes of stuff which is waiting to go to tip, charity shop, or other people via free before the tip type of fb page. Really chuffed with myself as I started it not expecting to finish but then all of a sudden it was done (only been on it about five months !).

I have asked my partner to do this over the weekend. So far all the clothes have been picked up and taken to the laundry room but the rubbish still sits there. I swear he has some kind of hoarding tendency where he can't get stuff outside the house. I usually cave and do it myself but I'm standing strong on this one.

@IncessantNameChanger sending hugs. Look after yourself, dd2 has been diagnosed with autistic burnout. There’s a good psychologist Alice Nichols who specialises in working with adults in burnout, she has some kind of online forum to support people.

After my last post I moved the bedroom crap to the room of doom and spent 16 minutes tidying and shredding papers.

Ive just spent ten minutes shredding and tidying papers. Too large notebooks full of dd2s drawings have gone and I’ve filed various odd bits of paper.

My bedroom is slightly better but the surfaces just seem to gain crap.

Just got back from holiday where I actually did wear 2 of the 3 bikinis I bought but had never worn. The 3rd is going out the door!

Went through the board games today and have a huge pile to sell, but not counting those untill they go. More things I must list on vinted!

Charity shop: bird feeder, box of greetings cards, soap dish

Bin / recycling: bird seed, 8x food colouring, swimming costume

Vinted/sold locally: set of 6 glasses

Total: 1498

LivingDeadGirlUK · 20/07/2025 16:57

I've passed on 2 sets of swimming shorts which are too small for my son, and thrown away some of those foot treatment packs (the ones where you put your feet into plastic bags of goop) that have gone a bit manky.

On a side note I also cleaned my desk which I decluttered about a month ago, it took 30 seconds without all the crap on it gathering dust. Really chuffed I managed to keep it clear.

Tackled a horrible draw in the kitchen. Have some time over the summer and hoping to get through all house. More I do more I realise the scale of the task. Not done any serious decluttering in 15 years so I guess inevitable.Anyone else feel task is bigger when you start?

Am binning a lot and then have dump/ charity/ find a home piles. Dump trip in my calendar for week after this. No doubt will go a few times

Poisonwood · 20/07/2025 18:25

I’ve cleared 10 black bags out of the house today, feel so much better for doing it even though it feels like there’s still tonnes. Ordered nice storage for the upstairs hall, which has a tendency to become a Spot of Doom, so hoping that will help sort that problem.
My youngest’s bedroom is so small, keeping on top of it is difficult but I’ve bought some wall shelves to add to it, and a radiator shelf…every little helps.

Impressive - what did you do with them? One of my biggest challenges is actually getting the stuff out.

I built momentum and did the second draw. Should be able to finish the kitchen this week. Then onto bedroom 1 🤞🏻🤞🏻

At the end of June, I ran around trying to reach 100 items - I made it, but then got a bit stuck working out how to record everything that I’m getting rid of. Big wins have been 2 old chairs that were taking up a lot of space and a lot of stuff from the garage to the tip. I’ve also started to focus on using up stuff (thanks to the tips on here) & how to repair or mend stuff so it can be useful again.

Since posting last month, my current tally is:
Charity donations - 65 items
Tip - 15 items
Filing - 2 batches
Bin - 11 items
Stuff used up - 4 items
Recyling - 11 items
Stuff repaired / repurposed 4 items

Total for the year - 162 items

Day 202, kids tote bag. Been floating about for ages

Acheyelbows · 21/07/2025 12:46

Been slowly decluttering for the last month or so. Feel like I'm getting better at letting things go.

Recycled: Two bags of teenage clothing, tshirts, joggers, jumpers and tops, unworn dresses, blazers, dungarees to charity shop.

Piled items for a skip: wood, chicken wire, old rug x 2, hen house roof, extendable kitchen table.

Pile of electrical items for recycling: old robohoover, battery packs x 2.

Pile of children's books for donation.

Recycled old work documents, purchased expanding files to sort same. Recycled many gifted resources - more work to be done on this.

Freezer that was in storage moved to house to be used.

Garden declutter - some trees cut back, strimmed, weeding, levelling, weed cloth in a section, branches gathered and tonne bag filled with green waste.

Absolutely agree that the task is much bigger when you start. I tell myself I'm going to spend ten minutes and then end up spending much longer.

There is huge satisfaction in decluttering but I get deflated when I look at the mammoth task ahead. I need to make it part of my daily routine and tick away at it until there's only necessary items left.

TreesToday · 21/07/2025 13:45

I managed 1 bag, not much but it’s a start.

CherryRipe1 · 21/07/2025 20:27

Designer top sold today, packed and ready to go, so will toddle off to the Post Office tomorrow. It's nice to get rid of bubble wrap, boxes and bags when selling too.

IndianSummer78 · 21/07/2025 20:32

Top
Trousers
Dress
Bag

All donated ⬆️

Wrapping from something, huge plastic bag stuffed down the side
Damaged hair bobble

Both binned ⬆️

Total is 3654

Dox9 · 21/07/2025 20:42

Just joining now.
2 bags to charity shop
4 footmuffs from tiny baby size to toddler also to charity shop. Dd is 10 so these had been hanging around a while😅
Will look through footwear tomorrow.

Poisonwood · 21/07/2025 21:55

@Bufftailed donations to four different charity shops, and some stuff to adult daughter for her house. Then clothes recycling bank too. It’s tiring organising where everything goes but I live so rurally selling sites/marketplaces don’t want to know.

Decluttered DD8’s under-bed today, good job done. Also got rid of a lot of packaging I’d been saving just-in-case. In case of what, I’ve no idea 😂

TidyClutterIsStillClutter · 22/07/2025 06:52

Binned - mildewed and mouldy leather belt that had fallen behind the boiler years ago.

Two broken coathangers

Bag of uniform to the PTA shed - just made it on the last day it was open. Must remember to take my bag of textile recycling to the school bin tomorrow as last day of term. Two gingham dresses earmarked for SiL as DD1 is off to Big School in September and DD2 only likes the playsuit style (and it would be cruel to make DS wear them!).

stealthninjamum · 22/07/2025 15:04

I just did another ten minutes in the room of doom? I put dd2s spelling tests from year 1 into recycling and various cards and items of crafts including some kind of tree made with cardboard and a toilet roll. It’s really slow going as these are things I’m emotional about. It doesn’t help that dd2 now won’t engage in any form of home schooling so I feel I want to hang on to the stuff she did at school.

IndianSummer78 · 23/07/2025 04:18

One lavender essential oil finished up.
Total is 3655

Dox9 · 23/07/2025 19:53

Footwear audit done. One pair or kids trainers, one pair of kids football boots and waterproof ladies hiking trainers all cleaned and ready for charity shop.
Coats or bedsheets drawer next.

TreesToday · 23/07/2025 20:09

Started listing the good toys on Facebook 🙌. The free toys are mostly done and I even have two people booked to collect them tomorrow. I also did a box of 15 books to We Buy Books as well. It’s taken all day and I’m very grumpy now 😂

TreesToday · 25/07/2025 07:45

5 things gone yesterday, more listed, I even made £25 ☺️.

Give yourself some grace. It’s ok to keep a bit more now - think of it as a kindness to yourself.
