Decluttering thread 10 - Spring is here, time to get those surfaces clear!

Between the day job and cat sitting, I'm struggling to achieve anything. Coming back to this has given me a bit of a prod to do something!
Started yesterday by getting rid of all the soft plastic recycling, I dropped off my Boots recycling bits and DP took the garden waste to the dump. Not much but I was happy as it was stuff that I could see. Did some baking yesterday and finished off some flour and sugar from the cupboard.
After this week, life calms down so I'm going to make an achievable plan of getting stuff out.
I have more summer clothes than I need so I'm wearing everything while it's nice weather! I think some footwear will be going at the end of the summer.

Actually took the 2 very full bags of stuff to the charity shop

Sold a massive roll of fabric which I needed for work, but no longer do

Combined 2 half full storage boxes of sentimental loft stuff into 1 box and recycled the other

Total 1255

Tip booked for next week for old suitcases, upholstery foam and manky pillows. A couple of people took some boxes today for moving and online sales so that's less to take down to the tip or fit into the card recycling box. Broken stereo & electric nail buffer outside for small electrical recycling. Got a load more of dds old clothes to decide whether to sell or donate. Got another bag of knick knacks for hospice shop.

Did some work in the office today including a load of dusting, there is still a lot to sort in here but the area around my workstation is clear and I've chucked out loads of receipts and paperwork.

Also put some joggers into the charity bag that don't fit my son anymore.

out 7 food magazines having just taken 3 recipes, there were more that I liked but very very similar to others so got rid; also white t shirt with frayed next and a high neck T that really doesn't suit me as sleeves too short so 9 this years total 96 ( did 365 last year and 2023 year before so not that much left not sure what target is this year maybe 150 at 15 per month) need to do photos card supplies and go over books again

in a fit of temper at dd today I binned a handful of marbles. She threw two of the large glass ones at ds’ head and hurt him. so he cried. She has been told off and marbles binned.

also broke another wine glass. Ffs.

had a swish through wardrobe whilst on FaceTime with dsis and found three dresses for the car boot Sale next weekend.

in the kitchen I’ve used up half a packet of quinoa, a shawarma paste and a jar of mayo.

Just sold a hefty recipe book on fbmp to a local chap who was thrilled with it for £2.50. Can’t get over the fact my silly sales are doing so well.

bin day tomorrow and had a blitz on the fridge and half filled the food bin with so many random sprouting potatoes. Can now easily shut the veg drawer.

Today's dress that keeps riding up.
Hand cream used up. Only a few left now.
Face cream used up. Loads left.
Serum used up. Loads left.
Empty box that had a few makeup bits in it (rehoused elsewhere with the rest of the makeup).
Shampoo used up. Quite a few left still.

This is the perfect thread for me right now because I’m mid declutter.
Who knew there was so much unseen clutter in drawers and cupboards taking up vital storage space in the kitchen
Who knew it would take so long to declutter and then clean the drawers and still have so much left to do.

I have little piles of stuff in random corners in every room thst need sorting out.

Teen DD leaves clutter everywhere and it drives me bonkers. I’ve put all her clutter in the living room in a pile and will put in bin bags for her to sort out.

I threw away loads of DS soft toys from under his bed without telling him. He hasn’t even noticed.

I cleared out a few drawers and got rid of a pile of “art” stuff. Mainly sticker books, pens, scraps of drawings. Lots of individual items plus a broken toy.

I forgot to add that Im very pleased to have cleared a lot of the kitchen surface and reorganised where everything goes in the drawers.

I matched up all the Tupperware and chucked out anything with no lid.

I need to stop stockpiling rice and pasta and tins of tomatoes.
Next is sorting out everything under the stairs mainly coats and shoes. Will attempt to sell on Vinted but it’s such an effort for little reward

Spent a couple of hours helping DD organise her bedroom and put away her birthday presents (which had been sitting in the living room for a few weeks). No actual decluttering but room is tidier, stuff is out of packaging and put away, packaging recycled/ binned, and room was thoroughly dusted and hoovered.

Busy weekend otherwise with no actual decluttering, and I didn’t get a chance to even take photos for Vinted. Need to get on with that this week.

Had to change my username slightly to get back here and be inspired again by all the posts!

Looked through all the cupboards and the attic at the weekend, and felt so discouraged. In danger of churning. Surprisingly, it helps me to relax to pile up and re-pack. But wastes so much energy, and I managed to resist the impulse.

Needed to move a few things around in the garage and shed, and found a few electric/electronics that had been put there for recycling, and then forgotten. I think I was waiting for a big enough pile to justify a tip run.

Discovered this thread this morning - perfect timing as I’ve just started to sort out the garage. I’d like to join to help keep decluttering motivation and not get discouraged. Progress so far:

I feel twitchy about throwing these out but they haven’t found their soul mates so I’m inclined to bin them
I’m going to stare at them for a while till I’m fed up of them. That took seconds I’m binning them.

DD rescued some odd socks so got rid of 16

Lady knocked on my door today asking if I had anymore plastic takeaway boxes & lids! (She'd previously knocked & asked if she could take mine from the recycling box which was sweet of her). Told her I'd put them out on the days she visits the area if I had any to go. Someone took a load more cardboard boxes & some old pillows for packing breakables. Said they'd take the wadding out. Great! Less in the car for the tip tomorrow. Contemplating another quick rummage in the Loft of Doom prior to tip run tomorrow afternoon to see if there's anymore tat to be recycled or dumped.

2 bags of rubbish, a mountain of cardboard, and a load of empty glass jars washed out that all had expired food in them….all away to the dump/recycling today. And a bag of clothes to the charity shop. Feels great and I can finally see the floor in my utility room again. Loads more to do but feels like a great start.
