De cluttered an ornament, kids: some trainers, a t shirt, a told-play mask and a onesie.

Total outs: 506

ememem84 · 16/05/2025 10:05

About 15 items from dds drawers sorted and put aside for car boot.

have a pile of stuff ready to go up in the loft too.

IndianSummer78 · 16/05/2025 17:21

One DVD binned and a face cream used up. Total is 3490

Hasthisreallyhappened · 17/05/2025 07:07

Going to be brave today and delve in DH‘s pockets of his lovely suits and then pack them up for the charity they are going to as a friend has offered to take them.

Then I’ve gotta go back in that garage

I literally can’t get from one side to the other
The annoying thing is, I have no idea what I’ve actually done to it since I last de junked it a month or so ago. Just inside the door, I’ve got a reasonable pile to go to the tip so at least I know I’m ahead of the game a little

ememem84 · 17/05/2025 14:37

Probably 20 items from my wardrobe in the car boot pile. I’ve put it all in the garage for now as it was cluttering up our room.

the garage is also somewhere I need to tackle @Hasthisreallyhappened it was clear. Then the builders put their stuff in it. And yesterday I pulled everything out to find the buckets and spades and threw them in the car. They live in the “beach box” which I now need to put a bunch of other stuff in but it’s in the car and DH is out with dd. So….i cant sort it.

CherryRipe1 · 17/05/2025 20:09

I recycled loads of plastic containers and lids, a lady knocked & asked if she could take the lids for all her containers with missing lids! The recycling box was full up but that left room to fit a load more plastics in there.

IndianSummer78 · 17/05/2025 23:02

I'm donating a pair of shoes that's too small and binned s couple of CDs that don't work. Total is 3493

JK3 · 17/05/2025 23:30

Gave an item back to a friend that she’d forgotten last time she was at mine
Recycled a plastic box
Got rid of old broken printer
sold an item on vinted
Put a bag of clothes in the charity bag
Sorted 5 items of clothing and a pair of trainers into a bag for a friend (not quite out yet)
sorted out all of the batteries and recycled those that don’t work

total - 512

Pigtailsandall · 18/05/2025 10:20

Finally sent all the rest my Vinted sales! Very happy. So days 135-138 were kids life jacket, 2 Oxford reading tree bundles and a separate phonics book. They've made a dent so pleased, and I made £21.

Also used up lots of packing materials so that is an added bones.

Going to do some general clearing out today, and in particular get all our recycling out

IncessantNameChanger · 18/05/2025 11:52

I need some help getting my momentum back on track. I have a decluttering lady but like her predecessor, she keeps cancelling last minute. Fo rather than seeing her every 6 weeks if she cancels (which is turning out to be 100% of the time) it's 8 weeks.

Not sure if there is a app or a FB programm anyone else has used?

It's annoying as if I did a room a week I'd be sorted in say 5 weeks but for what ever reason I can't stick to it.

I have hot rid of so much but I need to organise snd put away too.

I can't find my sons Karate Gi or his glasses. My dh is a decent bloke but he won't work with me. If I say let's do this area together he just does it on his own.

ememem84 · 18/05/2025 13:22

Tackled the garage.

binned a LOT. Found some more stuff for the car boot.

also discovered we have 3 sets of golf clubs. DH is the only golfer.

he’s going to try and narrow it down to two sets.

CheesePlantFeet · 18/05/2025 16:37

@IncessantNameChanger there's no way I'd be able to do a room a week. Life gets in the way most days. And my motivation to do something decluttery waxes and wanes too much. Try setting smaller goals of a couple of cupboards or drawers or whatever a week.
But I'd love to hear if there's an app etc people have used.

This weekend I've gone through my vinted pile, and sent some to the charity shop that didn't sell. Listed a few more things and had some sales. I also sorted through 3 kitchen cupboards

Charity shop: dress, planter, 2x tops, 1x storage jar, 3 x tupperwear, 4 x dishes, lunchbox, jumper, 2x travel mugs
Bin / recycling : 5x out of date meditations , reusable straw
Vinted/sold locally: 2x dress, 2x tops

Total 1103

JK3 · 18/05/2025 16:49

Gave away a dress

Total 512

She returned today and took a load more lids and cartons, those yoghurt pots like buckets with handles. Glad it's not gone in landfill at least.

Hasthisreallyhappened · 18/05/2025 19:17

Diverted myself to the garage.

I can get in it. Walk across it. Car boot is full of junk and tomorrow’s recycling bin is full to the brim of random cardboard boxes.

feeling extremely pleased with myself.

IncessantNameChanger · 18/05/2025 19:35

Grgh I have had a Vinted sale suspended which is annoying as it's been suspended for over 24 hours and it's was too girls new with tags dress for £1.50! They are new so no idea what is wrong with them. So much hassle for a few quid.

On the plus side I don't ever buy anything new any more to save or for the kids to grow into so it's not a problem going forward.

IndianSummer78 · 19/05/2025 02:37

Good progress hasthisreallyhappened.

Incessant and cheese I use YouTube. Hoarder's heart and space maker because they talk through the items and it's not about minimalism. Minimalism is a great concept but I found it can only take me so far when I'm not actually wanting to be a minimalist. Most minimalists don't seem to have any hoarding tendencies either. The videos helps me talk myself into getting rid of things. I often come away from a video with an idea for something else to get rid of or another way of organising my home better. It's taking me ages but my home is looking much improved after a year or so of consistency. This is with me continuing to shop as well, although I'm being a lot more mindful of what I bring in. I've gone from someone who couldn't get rid of anything unless it was worn out/used up /broken to someone who can admit something no longer has a purpose and isn't needed or was a mistake in the first place.

Ten birthday cards recycled.
One leaflet recycled.
One DVD binned.
Total is 3505.

IncessantNameChanger · 19/05/2025 12:56

I am having a more productive day. My dd had a visit from early help today ( step down from socail care) as I requested their involvement a year ago after she?was suspended from school. Anyway it's taken a long time. Hopefully they can help keep a relationship going at school to get her into her next school.

So. Doing a 30 minutes rush around first thing knowing from someone from socail care is coming was very productive! I might do that first thing daily now.

I am looking for this Gi and in the process have thrown out ten things just looking at the foot of dds bed, the clean washing and from the morning mad dash.

I have also sorted out ds pjs as he was wondering around last night in a 11-12 pair up to his knees. That's Freed up an entire deep draw.

I have to check ds top bunk as no one sleeps there but it was made up and covered in soft toys. At some point it's turned into Mordor and God knows what's on their. Hopefully his Gi.

Then I'm pulling out some clutter in front of my wardrobe as occasionally dh throws clean washing there and ds has been know to strip off in our room and read on our bed.

I have ordered a spare Gi from Vinted. I have also designated a backpack for Karate.

Odd socks to sort next. I will post my totals later on

EllieQ · 19/05/2025 13:17

Thanks for the YouTube suggestions @IndianSummer78 - I feel like I need something to push me that bit further with decluttering, so I’ll have a look.

No new decluttering in the past week apart from a pair of tights going into fabric recycling after I’d spotted a hole, but the three concertina folders and 46 of the magazines from previous weeks were collected, after being advertised on FB freecycle. The magazines were a few years worth of an American magazine I used to buy, and I was glad that someone wanted them rather than putting them in the recycling.

We are going away on holiday next week so there were some items in at the weekend - new T-shirts and shorts for DD. I’d already got rid of her outgrown ones so there is space in her drawers, which is nice.

IncessantNameChanger · 19/05/2025 14:26

This is a embarrassing confession but explains a lot of my issues. I'm going through ds clothes getting summer bits out of storage.

I'm genuinely surprised that I'm looking at what fits him again, like I only did this months ago. But of course, uncluttered people do this all of the time. Whereas I'm thinking, nope I have looked through this already.

Anyway I now have a massive bag for ds to try on. I decided to put everything he owns in a bag and he can try everything on. He will hate that but he is growing like a weed and I don't want to mindlessly put hoodies away for winter that don't fit him now.

Pigtailsandall · 19/05/2025 14:42

Day 139 declutter - a novelty booze we got on a trip years ago. DH has been holding onto it but after taking a sip, he agreed that it was best used as toilet cleaner

JK3 · 19/05/2025 14:59

outs:

a pair of boots

W/E 18/05 (Week 20)
2025 – (761 + 89 = 850) = 1175 to go

Productive week and managing not to bring new things in, apart from consumables. If the weather turns I may attack the study which is where my 'projects' live. Many of them were classified as 'I'll do that when I retire"; 9 months into retirement do I still want to do them if I haven't picked them up yet? I'll think about them over the next few weeks if/when it rains as we are in the garden or walking most of the time in this beautiful weather.

Digital
Memory sticks cleared x 2

Stuff used up and not replaced
Different suncreams, all old x 5 (why? Only two of us here and we both use the same!)

Recycled/binned
Laminated recipe cards x 47, manuals for things we no longer own x 4, set of file tabs, plant pots x 21 recycled to garden centre (still some in the shed, think they are breeding), bags of garden rubbish x 3, blister packs x 5 (taken to Boots for points), book x 1 given to friend,

Charity shop
New donation bag filling up. Will count when leaves the house.

Vinted
Zero. Added a few new things and discounted the older stuff.

That reminds me of Ouzo. Fine in Greece but better as hand sanitiser once home ( and sober)

Yep amazing how everything tastes not only palatable but nice when away, and at home I'm like, Urgh, give me a G&T over this crap anyday
