Regarding cables that you don’t know what they go with.

last year I purchased a Nimbot label printer, and you can get labels for cables (which I haven’t purchased as I’m just folding regular labels round the cable). I have an App on my phone that I type what I want on the label.

I’ve been through the house and labelled all cables we are currently using and tried to identify a few in a drawer. If something has a plug I print a label for the plug. Found it a really useful thing to do (also meant no one’s walked off with my iPad charger in the last year).

edited to say: so I am hopeful that ongoing there will be no cables left lounging in a drawer that I’m afraid to part with.

Edited

I love my label printer !! So much stress gone. I also label each plug on a multi socket so we know which one is eg the lamp TV DVD etc in the mess of cables in the dark recess behind the stand !

And it’s a measure of how obsessed I am that I’m about to research these labels you mention.. til now I’ve just folded regular ones but they don’t always work after a while so gonna check out what you mention.

Oh, it’s definitely going down a rabbit hole moment. Plus, they do all different coloured ones too. 😂

I sold a dress on Vinted I had had up for almost a year! I don't usually keep items there that long, but I'd kind of forgotten about it. I packaged it up immediately and sent - v happy with the £12.

So day 128 declutter is a dress!

IndianSummer78 · 08/05/2025 19:30

Two too small dresses
One top that doesn't go with anything
Two catalogues (and I didn't buy anything)

Total is 3469

Sold 3 items on Vinted and one needed a large box to post so de cluttered that too!
Gave away a book and 2 small toys to a friend
Gave 2 kids’ t shirts and a bag of toys to another friend

total number of decluttered items for 2025 = 497

LivingInaBuiltSite · 09/05/2025 12:17

DD is in charge of the Vinted stuff here, she gets to keep the money so she’s very invested lol.
But does mean I don’t really count the items anymore.

Jobs:

  1. Hang up framed pictures: this has now changed to critically go through the framed artwork as we’ve agreed we don’t actually want all of it?
  2. DS2 paperwork: blue badge started
  3. my British passport application - Ceremony NEXT WEEK then passport application form
  4. DS1’s gaming, PC, nerf collections to go through and tidy
  5. Portfolio work - 2 hours done today - done lots recently
  6. Bathroom redecoration: waiting for decorator to book a new date

Not quite outs yet:
scooter hooks x 3 onto FB
Several jigsaws - planning to give to work for a library maybe
contacts M-Z DONE ✔️
some paint stuff Dd doesn’t want

Out:
broken towel rail thing
14 letters in contacts
567+15=582

off on night shifts for the weekend so nothing will get done.

Finally cleaned out the kitchen spice drawer which is actually 3 drawers as we like Asian foods. There was stuff in there that went off in 2018!! It’s now sparkly.

mic drop ;-)

Day 129 - pair of socks, worn through

EllieQ · 10/05/2025 11:27

Had a fairly successful decluttering session last weekend. First, I finished shredding the last of the paperwork from my mum’s house. I have an envelope full of things like the last bank statement, last bills, and also the mortgage agreement when they bought the house back in the late 70s. I will probably go through this again to reduce it down in the future.

I haven’t go rid of the box and empty files yet, but I’ll do that this weekend. Couldn’t quite face it after doing all the shredding.

The other task for last weekend was to clean and rearrange a set of shelves in DD’s room, which was a mix of our stuff and her stuff. The shelves are in an alcove, and the top shelf is level with DD’s loft bed, and I wanted to clear it so she can use it as a bedside shelf. It felt like a game of Tetris - I took 50 magazines that I didn’t want to keep anymore off the shelves downstairs, moved the magazines from the top shelf (mainly DH’s D&D magazines 🙄) downstairs, then emptied, cleaned, and tidied up the remaining shelves. Also dusted the rest of the room (it really needed it) and hoovered. I was glad to get that done.

Actual decluttering was the paperwork (counted as 1), the 50 magazines (though they haven’t left the house yet), and a few folders from DD’s shelves. Also threw away a pair of tights this week as they had a hole in them. So 55 things in the past week.

TidyClutterIsStillClutter · 10/05/2025 14:07

Coming to the end of the school-related decluttering. I’ve gained about eight feet of shelving in the process. I’ve kept some cute stuff from nursery and the beginning of primary, because it all fits into a small cabinet.

Next is highers and college stuff. Much easier in a way. They either decide to take their stuff, or chances are I decide to dump it.

Days 130 & 131 (yesterday and today) 2 kids books. We took them to a little library and I was relieved there was nothing there that DC wanted as I'm desperate to reduce the number of books in the house overall.

I've also listed stuff on Vinted this morning for the first time in months!

Realfastfoodie · 11/05/2025 12:19

Three little baby spoons in the bin as they were starting to wear a bit. I won’t replace as my babies have enough ☺️

I’ve slowed right down again but about to do a bit of a push

CheesePlantFeet · 11/05/2025 15:00

Sold a few things on vinted: Pair of boots, pair of sandals, dress, 2 x rolls of bias binding. Need to list more stuff

Bin: open of a bottle of port and open of a bottle of ouzo. Both given to us 20+ years ago when clearing a relative's house out and never touched since 🤣

Binned a small plastic zippy pouch thing that had broken.

packed up yet again so more things in the toiletries bag to use up:

moisturiser
toothpaste
make up remover
shampoo and conditioner
showergel
cleanser
mascara

these will not be coming home with me.

a packing cube broke today. So that was binned too.

Used up all the toiletries I said I would.

bought a fair bit in Manchester on Friday. Took some back Saturday.

I spent £170 on jeans in next. Our next here doesn’t have all the ranges so manchesters was bigger. Annoyed because I didn’t try on said jeans becaude they were the same size and style as the ones I already have. But they don’t fit. So they’re going back on Tuesday. (So annoying they took up valuable space in my case!)

TidyClutterIsStillClutter · 11/05/2025 21:05

DD was able to take about fifty excess colouring pencils this evening.

Morning all! are ye good? I’ve been missing off here a long time partly because I still have some unpacking and re filtering to do after 8 weeks in our new home 😳 but I’ve got an unexpected day at home so instead of dipping in the river I’m going to do some of this, see you on the other side

JK3 · 12/05/2025 10:01

Sold and posted 2 Vinted items

Total for this year = 499

EllieQ · 12/05/2025 10:06

More progress yesterday: emptied the box that the paperwork had been in and put 5 folders into recycling, and listed 3 plastic concertina-type folders on FB freecycle group - someone is already interested. The box was a Pickfords box and still in good condition, so I’ve folded it down and offered it on the freecycle group as well.

Went through the stash of plastic envelopes/ packaging that had been building up, and decided to keep 3 for future Vinted sales, and put 6 into plastic bag recycling.

Had a sort through of DD’s clothes and found 15 outgrown things to go to charity or sell on Vinted - mostly dresses, with some joggers and hoodies.

So 30 things decluttered in total!
