Anyone know how old phone chargers, leads, general computer clutter ie old software programs, cd roms, HDMI connectors, coaxe cables and the like can be recycled or is best just binned? We've got boxes of it all tangled up & taking up precious space. Thanks. Psyching myself up to recycle two cushion covers I've been hoarding for years, terrified to chuck out for some strange reason. 🤣

My DH put a post up on our local Facebook group 'carrier bag of wires and randomness' and some local guy picked it up and was apparently greatful 🤣

I have a similar drawer of doom, but I'm mostly scared of getting rid of my old laptop. What if I need that file I haven't accessed in 10 years and probably did remember to backup, but I can't remember now... It feels easier just to leave it to it's drawer 🫣

IndianSummer78 · 05/05/2025 17:41

One blunt eyebrow razor. I'm done to one and one spare now for these. Total is 3460

No idea about wardrobe services bit the Style and Beauty boards have a couple of threads up that might help you Spry(? Think it was you) . No Buy Shop From Wardrobe and Low Buy 2025. Might help you decide if something can be styled with what you've already got or needs to go and help you stop buying more items.

Cables and small electric items can be recycled in our kerbside weekly recycling, so check with your council Cherry.

Pigtailsandall · 05/05/2025 18:01

Currys and such take cables.

I forgot to post yesterday but day 123 was a kids kaleidoscope. Today, day 124, was a very ragged kids book. T was in such bad condition I couldn't even donate it, I had to put it in recycling. DC and I will look through books tonight. We have probably 300 kids books, and even some board books etc left

@IndianSummer78 @Pigtailsandall Thank you all, great ideas.

@IncessantNameChanger @IndianSummer78

if youre on Instagram check out “a woman called George” she’s local to me but has coined the phrase “sparkle Friday” and dresses accordingly.

she inspired me to wear my best stuff. Because why waste it in the wardrobe.

ememem84 · 05/05/2025 20:35

Emptied a Clarins night cream today and broke a gin glass. Sigh.

JK3 · 05/05/2025 21:59

Sold 1 item on Vinted
used up 3 kids’ craft sets
gave away 5 plant pots

total 486

TidyClutterIsStillClutter · 05/05/2025 22:32

Binned - three broken ballpoint pens.

Paper recycling - one reporter’s notebook of scribbles about to-do lists and ta-das.

Transferred anything relevant to diary. It’s the best way for me to keep track. Almost like a running commentary.

Went to my storage unit today. Picked up a chair and a box of hangers yo sort through and deposited 3 bo?es of toys and books unsorted as I'm still hunting for ds glasses. I will bring them.back one box at a times as soon his room is searched throughout.

So been productive but I feel cheesed off I still can't find the glasses.

Acheyelbows · 06/05/2025 15:46

Some setbacks today.

Cleaner never showed :(
She says she got the days wrong. I've pushed myself too hard over the last 4 days to have the space cleared and my body is aching all over. Not sure I'm willing to wait a whole week more and visitors are calling this Friday so the momentum may have passed.

The car boot is bursting with stuff to be dropped off and disposed of and when I went to set off today - the battery was dead. Last thing I need.

Decluttered:
Two old worn hoodies added to textile recycling bag and one good condition child's hoodie added to charity bag.

Old broken earphones dumped, came across three similar pairs in the clear out.

Recycled some A3 paper that had gotten damp and crinkled. Leaflets, envelopes thrown out. This week's shopping receipts straight into the bin. Cleaned out my handbag, no random paper or receipts.

Finished a conditioner and threw out a body wash that was unsuitable. I'm now using the exfoliating soap bag I purchased a while back with a bar of Simple soap. Used up an Audible credit on a self-help book, 3 more and I might manage to pause my subscription for a few months.

Some ceramic clutter sorted and moved to a suitable cupboard for safe keeping. (Doesn't belong to me, would be in the bin if it did)

Saw an appeal for sheets and towels on FB and took a screenshot for when I tackle the hot press.

Very jealous of all the Vinted sales, I don't know how you manage the packing and posting all the time? Do you live very close to post offices or is there an easier way?

Jellycatrabbit · 06/05/2025 19:05

@Acheyelbows there are a few different posting options on Vinted, you can turn them on and off. I live near an Evri shop, drive past a Yodel shop for the school run and have Inpost lockers at work. I've never yet had a Vinted sale through Royal Mail.

Been slowly decluttering books. 950 items YTD.

CheesePlantFeet · 06/05/2025 20:36

I sorted throw my and my DD's shelves in the bathroom today. Got rid of 7 unwanted lotions/potions into the bin and some unopened unwanted stuff into my vinted pile (but I'm not counting those until they sell)

Next rooms to tackle will be the kitchen (but I decluttered that pretty well last year so not expecting to get rid of much) and DD's bedroom which I started on today. She let me get rid of 1 teddy so far 🙃

Total : 1048

IndianSummer78 · 06/05/2025 22:25

One top too tight in the sleeves and one I just don't like, donated. Total is 3462

JK3 · 06/05/2025 23:58

Sold one item on Vinted today making my total for 2025 - 487.

Vinted sales so far this year have paid for an overnight getaway in a few weeks time. It’s nice to ‘see’ the reward as well as clearing out unwanted items. @Acheyelbows I list all items on Vinted at the same time between 6 and 8pm (Friday night seems to be the best) and leave them on for a week (if they don’t sell straight away), then reduce and if they haven’t gone by the end of the month, I charity shop them. I store listed items in a bag for life in the boot of the car with a load of packing bags, scissors and parcel tape so that if I get a sale while I’m at work, I can post them on my way home so I don’t need to make a special trip.

I find that inpost is the most popular choice and there are lots of lockers where I live, including some near school so I often drop off after the school run.

Hope this helps!

IncessantNameChanger · 07/05/2025 14:07

I have ordered Anglo collection to pick up from the house tomorrow. I'm also going to tip in the morning

IndianSummer78 · 07/05/2025 18:14

One empty jar I was saving for some reason I can't remember.
One pair of worn out knickers.

Total is 3464

Pigtailsandall · 07/05/2025 18:45

Day 126 (yesterday) kids chapter book, read and given to a DC friend;
Day 127, face mask

TidyClutterIsStillClutter · 07/05/2025 19:25

After each exam, the teen gives me the relevant jotters and workbooks to recycle or pass on.

DS suggested he take his OU books and try to sell them. Another big gap on the shelves!

And without a doubt there’s still some of my old notes to unearth.

The gaps in the cupboard are filling up with my shoeboxes of various devices and homeless cords and cables, to be identified and rehomed at a later date. It’s nice not having the stuff in my face all the time.

Binned a small plastic zippy pouch thing that had broken.

packed up yet again so more things in the toiletries bag to use up:

moisturiser
toothpaste
make up remover
shampoo and conditioner
showergel
cleanser
mascara

these will not be coming home with me.

a packing cube broke today. So that was binned too.

Hasthisreallyhappened · 07/05/2025 22:43

Regarding cables that you don’t know what they go with.

last year I purchased a Nimbot label printer, and you can get labels for cables (which I haven’t purchased as I’m just folding regular labels round the cable). I have an App on my phone that I type what I want on the label.

I’ve been through the house and labelled all cables we are currently using and tried to identify a few in a drawer. If something has a plug I print a label for the plug. Found it a really useful thing to do (also meant no one’s walked off with my iPad charger in the last year).

edited to say: so I am hopeful that ongoing there will be no cables left lounging in a drawer that I’m afraid to part with.

Daughter cleared out our medicine cupboard today. Dear oh dear, so much stuff out of date. Found nit treatments from the 90s and a vintage bottle of eucalyptus inhalant from 1986. I didn't even live in this house then so hell knows where I acquired that from! Threw out loads of old manky beauty creams & potions too.
