Another laundry powder box of school notes ready for the paper recycling bin.

Several ratty teeshirts washed and ready for repurposing as cleaning rags.

Please can I join you? Ive been reading this thread for months but its time…

Ive given myself 1000 days to turn my life round because everything’s awful - my marriage, my hair, my weight, my health, my house, my little Etsy business. I thought 1000 days is enough time to see a difference (I began on 10th March but haven’t actually done anything yet 🙄), so it really is time

The whole house needs a massive declutter.

Yesterday I posted two things sold on vinted, and today I put 23 dvds on the charity shop pile, but they don’t count until they’re out of the house I guess

MrsBird03 · 19/04/2025 23:23

Well i've filled the recycling bins and the waste bin is full (although another three weeks before collection) and I have also sold 36 items on vinted today. About half have been posted, but I had just put my key in the door after dropping parcels off when my phone started buzzing with more sales. Going to pack them up and hopefully drop off tomorrow! Every room in the house is upside down though, kids entertaining themselves as I crack on, helping in some ways but causing chaos in others!

Old armchair and a mangled cushion.
Total is 3360

Welcome to all the newbies 🙂

CheesePlantFeet · 20/04/2025 07:15

Hi newbies! @1000DayChallenge I'm sorry to things are hard right now. I was in an awful funk a year or so ago. Weight was too high, hair was falling out, my etsy business was stalling because I'd needed a couple of minor operations and had to close for a few months

Hair was the easiest to sort out! Weight is lower now, but still a process, Etsy has improved, but again still a process! I'm sending you all the strength and motivational wishes and waving pom poms for you 💐

I ironed my vinted stuff and got it listed! Also randomly cleaned the top of my freezer and found five years worth of greese and some very random stuff that's leaving the house immediately

Charity: 4 fake plants
Bin: 2 pots of magnetic words, electric fly swatter,
Vinted: handbag, 2x dress, top

Total :545

1000DayChallenge · 20/04/2025 08:07

Thank you so much @CheesePlantFeet! You’ve no idea how much that means. I’m really sorry to hear you’ve been through it too, but you’re living proof that things can be turned around. You’ve done brilliantly!

Pigtailsandall · 20/04/2025 09:35

Happy birthday to your dd Builtsite and welcome newbies!!

My yesterday declutter was a pair of socks where the heel finally went - goal is to get to 24 pairs of socks so they fit into the socks organiser.

But currently down with a cold and lying in bed eating an Easter egg feeling very sorry for myself

ememem84 · 20/04/2025 12:00

Travel size face moisturiser
mascara
felt pen eyeliner

all used up

IncessantNameChanger · 20/04/2025 13:40

I have asked thus before, but how much clothes do your school age pre teens have?

I still think dd has slightly too much and I'd like to get more streamlined.

I wash every day but I'd like a weeks buffer and ten days holiday abroad ( I sometimes wash there but don't want to have to and need clothes clean and in the wash so about 14 outfits in the summer).

This is my aim below

For my ds at least 6-8 joggers
10-12 tshirts
5 long sleeve tshirts
4 hoodies
7 pairs of shorts

He's got much more than that plus other odds and ends like jumpers. But not reams more

Dd
10 tshirts
4 summer dresses
4 hoodies
8 shorts
4 leggings
4 jeans
2 smart dresses

She has got over 150 of the above in total.

I'm always thinking if it fits in her wardrobe and draws its fine. But this will be the last year of the big cull as lots of her summer clothes will be outgrown this year and I don't want to replace what not needed

What’s your secret @MrsBird03?! That’s amazing, were they all new listings? Super cheap?? Mine dribble out one at a time and is so frustrating but can’t afford to give it all away 😔

One ancient doorstep that I never use and 18 pieces of art work binned.

Realfastfoodie · 20/04/2025 21:40

No decluttering at all except a few million Easter eggs…

I need a big push.

MrsBird03 · 21/04/2025 06:39

Mostly new items, nothing over a £5 (they aren't high value, but I need the funds and every penny counts). My secret? Having a moan to my Mum on the phone 🤣 She doesn't do technology or apps, so it isn't her buying. However, if things have been up a few hours and no movement, i tend to moan and say things like 'ugh why aren't people buying xyz' and then a few sales come in! Sounds bonkers and illogical 🤣 I still have a lot to list and get rid of though! So poor Mum is going to have ear ache 😆

Pigtailsandall · 21/04/2025 10:01

Feel a bit better today and did days 110 & 111; kids crocs and a jumper. I thought I had decluttered all kids shoes but found these

Also found a huge pile of papers for recycling so feeling pleased about that.

Don’t know where else to post this, but I’ve just read the thread about is my mum a hoarder, and feel so distressed at the daughter’s attitude.

Now I just want to grab all the recycling from the weekend, and put it back on the shelves. I know I won’t but reading that thread made me realise I’ll always keep my clutter a secret.

Absolutely nothing to be ashamed of, I read and realise we all have different thresholds, different interests, and different values. If we were all the same, life would be very boring. The term clutter means different things to different people and we are all allowed to have / enjoy our own belongings as we wish. My version of clutter is items that don't have a home and i am moving around to be able to enjoy the things I love most, so for me clearing the clutter is maintaining the space so i can live the life i want and suits my family. Keep doing what works for you and sending a cuppa and a hug x

Despite a few wardrobe culls recently, I still feel there’s too much that I’m just not wearing and it’s making the wardrobes look really stuffed. This is starting to annoy me when I go to put things away, so I am planning the Most Ruthless Clothes Cull Ever this weekend!

And I feel excited about regaining space, not sad or worried about losing any items.

Wish me luck and strength!

I had a really ruthless wardrobe cull last month, and absolutely agonised over some of the things I eventually got rid of. But now if you asked me to list all those things I’d definitely struggle. Out of sight, out of mind! Hope your cull went well 😁

Your on your own path. Try not to look around at others judgements. We are on in the same choppy sea but in our own boats. Your doing this for you not others approval.

TidyClutterIsStillClutter · 21/04/2025 14:32

@IncessantNameChanger thank you so much for replying. I’ve finished going through some more papers, some to do, others to file, and some to bin/burn. I feel a bit better now.

Lost my way for a few weeks there, had a visitor coming to stay and went away for a night with youngest so ended up bringing more stuff into the house than I got rid of.

Threw out - unused cosmetics, tracksuit bottoms, Easter, birthday and mother's day cards and envelopes, lidl pamphlets, newspapers.

Unworn casual men shoes added to charity stack.

I had hoped that the visitor would go through my parents hot press and DM's wardrobe and help with the tasks but when they arrived it was clear that they wouldn't have capacity and it would involve me having to direct the cull anyways which would lead to frustration.

I will get back on track when the visit ends and make a bigger dent in the task. I'm afraid that if I don't my parents items will become my sentimental items in the future and it will never be done.

The serious decluttering on this thread is inspirational! In terms of the other thread, the poster is still young and may look on the situation differently when she reaches her mother's age.

IncessantNameChanger · 21/04/2025 16:29

Inspired by today's talk we are having a sort out. Dh is tidying. I'm listing on Vinted and sorting for charity. 65 items out this month.

Eldest ds girlfriend is coming.ing over from the USA in July so that's another motivator. However he has the worst room in the house. It's a double and he is moaning it's too small! Because he bought home 10 boxes from Uni and never unpacked!

I took a look at that thread @TidyClutterIsStillClutter and it took all my effort to not reply. Honestly, that OP comes across as a judgmental bully. Don’t let it take anything away from you.

ememem84 · 21/04/2025 19:44

Binned my favourite silver trainers today. They had seen better days. All scrappy and scratched and falling apart. In the bin they went.

and DH emptied the other bins on top of them just in case I changed my mind!!

also in charity bag - grey maxi skirt and a pair of black boyfriend jeans.
