Day 9 - small kids toy kazoo type of thing

Doing just on thing a day is a bit odd. I feel like there's more, but also I know I couldn't get to 2025 this year. Maybe I need to find a middle ground

Amazing January energy everyone!

I got rid of

32 clothes items including joggers, dresses, hoodies, leggings, pants, bras, socks, scarves.

2 skincare... Nivea cream and an oil

7 plastic hangers

So 41 items today total so far is 47.

heartbroken22 · 09/01/2025 19:37

Also got rid of a spoon, sponge, scourer, 2 toothbrushes so that's now 52.

Just seen there’s a decluttering programme about to start on ITV1 this evening called Keep, Chuck or Cash In, just thought I’d mention it in case it was of interest to any of you. Am going to watch as I found watching Sort Your Life Out on BBC always helped me get in the right frame of mood for clearing stuff out!

TidyClutterIsStillClutter · 09/01/2025 20:30

Very slow progress apart from the videotapes. Any paper/card covers are going in the recycling trolley. Also some more school jotters and notes.

Plastics recycling - cream and yogurt cartons that I’m never going to need for seedlings, paint pots, etc.

Two jam jars that I would previously have kept for leftovers. I’ve started labelling and freezing instead, in order to prevent wastage.

Ooh thanks for that. Sounds like my kind of thing!

I watched the decluttering programme- it’s prompted me to think it’ll dig out all our old tech and phones as one of the next things on the list.. we’ve got lots chucked in drawers dating back years.

I thought I’d declutter a face mask while I was watching but it started to burn my face so that’s gone in the bin and I’ve used up an antihistamine…

Afew more items from the spare room of doom into the bin bag too this afternoon. Counting piles of paper or groups of batteries as 1.

year to date 55

DreamyRedNewt · 09/01/2025 22:05

Today I got rid of:

  • 7 old table mats
  • 2 old cleaning products that had not been used in years
  • Some small items from my DD found lying around (you know, they type of annoying things in party bags), I didn't count them but probably around 10 things.
  • Some leaflets and a couple of old letters.
EllieQ · 09/01/2025 23:17

Day 9 of 31 days of decluttering: six tea light holders that were cleared from the bookcases during the sort-out last week, which I decided not to keep as I got a set of new tea light holders for Xmas. I just need to wrap them up to donate them, as they are made from glass.

My total for 2025 so far is 66, which I’m pleased with.

JK3 · 09/01/2025 23:17

1 game given to my kids’ school

Several items added to Vinted but no further sales

Total - 68

IndianSummer78 · 10/01/2025 00:27

20 blurry photos binned from the box.
1 DVD binned.
Total is 3107

Vinorosso74 · 10/01/2025 07:13

Yesterday, soft plastics to the supermarket. I bagged up some bras for charity recycling, need to post them today.
@ememem84 so pleased the chemo is nearly done. I found my chemo nurses lovely too. I had to go back every 6 months for bone strengthening infusions and it was lovely to see them all but weird being back. I had my last one in the summer and got told "don't come back" 🙂 I hope the last ones go smoothly and the recovery from surgery is an easy one.

TidyClutterIsStillClutter · 10/01/2025 07:25

@Vinorosso74 can you say which suoermarkets are taking soft plastics? I have several carrier bags accumulating. Thanks.

Vinorosso74 · 10/01/2025 07:32

I took mine to a Waitrose yesterday. Sainsburys have a big container for them, the bigger stores not the locals. I believe most supermarkets have somewhere but I'm yet to find where in my local Morrisons!
I try not to take loads if I know it's a smaller bin.

Vinorosso74 · 10/01/2025 07:33

If you haveclean and usable carriers, I believe food banks can use them.

frozendaisy · 10/01/2025 10:33

This weeks mission to fill the black bin with utter tat.
Teens have chosen their bedroom paint colours so we will get them this weekend and start a big declutter/decorate.

Will sort my studio today.

JK3 · 10/01/2025 11:45

6 more items into the charity bag

total outs 74

Have had a few days of commuting and genuinely missed decluttering and joining in the count to 2025 fun 😂 I sling the tree out for collection and threw one broken bauble away, so 70 since boxing day. I didn't count the tree 😂 got to take DD to some groups today so hoping to get back on it this weekend. I've got a cleaner booked for Tuesday and trying to pick up every bit of toy and debris off the living room floor between now and then, but I find bending so hard these days...also going to the gym now, to try and make decluttering and tidying up easier! Got to go out, but all I want is to be working on this tidy house! Maybe it'll be for Chinese New Year!

Also co-op recycle soft plastic, like plastic bags.

frozendaisy · 10/01/2025 15:06

Done sweet nothing today
neighbour needed advice
so drank coffee and dumped grocery shop on kitchen table
it looks worse than when I started this morning!

Vinorosso74 · 10/01/2025 17:16

Bras sent off for recycling.
Started on the under stairs cupboard in the lounge. Do charity shops take gift bags? We have more than I can reuse.

username299 · 10/01/2025 17:19

Charity collection is tomorrow and so is the food bank donation.

Frantically trying to get rid off a sofa. Have put it up on all the freebie sites. Had an offer of £80 to take away. Am tempted.

DreamyRedNewt · 10/01/2025 21:06

Today I got rid of:

  • a bag for life full of toys that I gave to my neighbour.
  • some of my DD's pants that were too used or some of them a bit small.
  • Some small toys/bracelets/crafts that were lying around in different parts of the house
