New thread!
Hope you all find this! It's not letting me tag people..

No actual outs today but a lot of general rubbish and recycling sorted from Christmas and new year. Things are a little clearer and the toys are more in control than a month ago. Little corners and my donation bags are filling up nicely.

Conquererofallchallenges · 01/01/2025 20:35

Finished sewing my furoshiki, 6 half size and 5 full size. I just have 2 fat quarters left and I am going to make myself a simple tote style bag next. Feels good to finally use stuff that has been in a pile which was bought without having a use but because I liked it.

Forgot to add my picture 🤣

Nice use of fat quarters! I'm a quilter so I have tones of fabric. I am trying to use it up and not buy more.

Gathered up quite a bit of kids clothes again today. Was looking for shoes a friend had handed down to me and found a fair bit I have kept to sell on Vinted so that's all ready to be photographed. I'm happy to donate it all really but want a shot at selling the new with tags bits.

Realfastfoodie · 02/01/2025 00:12

5 bits out today not including general clear-up - a decent start to the year. No ins as nothing bought or delivered.

Outs
1 cat bowl
3 broken wind up toys
1 several pieces of kids art

Hottoffeesauce · 02/01/2025 01:27

Proud of myself and feel just a teeny, tiny bit more in control now! Daughter helped me declutter two kitchen cupboards and the kitchen 'messy drawer'. Unfortunately had to throw out a lot of out of date food. But the cupboards are a pleasure to open now and I can see what is actually in them! The messy drawer was a huge mess but it wasn't difficult to sort out as there wasn't much in it that I felt emotional/attached to. Two huge bin bags of out of date food has gone!

Thanks so much for all the replies about disposing of videotapes. I’ve emailed the recycling services suggested by username299 in the hope that there might be a depot in or near Glasgow.

If that’s not possible, then realistically the only solution is landfill. Not something I ever gave a moment’s thought to when I was buying them.

It’s been a nice wander down memory lane though, to be reminded of the things I used to be interested in. I’ve lost sight of myself since about 2010. I’ll getting myself a blu-ray and some dvds instead.

TidyClutterIsStillClutter · 02/01/2025 12:40

The only tape recycling depot is hundreds of miles away, so the only solution is binning them. I still have two VCRs somewhere, and might watch a few before they become landfill.

Pigtailsandall · 02/01/2025 13:40

Day two declutter: Sold a kid's swimwear set on Vined and posted that today.

Just arranged a foodbank donation.

Am half way through the chest of drawers.

Just a thought, but DVDs are becoming obsolete just like video cassettes… most people just stream or rent or download digital copies which take up no space. We had an enormous collection of DVDs but they just sit there is a big carry case now (without cases) - one day we will get rid!

Mymanyellow · 02/01/2025 14:46

Sorted out bedroom drawers. Two bags for life to charity. Just outgrown dgc pjs and odd tracking bottoms. No idea I had so much.

declutteringonedayatatime · 02/01/2025 17:17

Am working through my room of doom. I currently have two more bags for charity shop and most likely more a third one to add to it when I get a chance to get into the wardrobe.

It has been great to see everyone's progress so far.

HellonHeels · 02/01/2025 17:49

Hi all and HNY! Some great decluttering going on here. Inspiring.

My outs:
fortune telling cup and saucer to charity shop
Box of posh bath stuff dismantled, box to recycling, soap now in use
Binned a Christmas game that was worn out
Started sorting out bombsite office, stack of papers gone (found some notes of things I was supposed to do and didn't - oops!)
Old work notebook
Filed sheaf of medical letters (wish I could bin but still needed; counting as an out as they're no longer all over the office)
Last year's calendar to recycling (does this count? I've been given a new one...)
Delivery box to recycling

Total: 43

Stuff to do:
Hang one picture
Donate one picture - this is now in a bag for the chazza, so almost out
Put up a hook rack in utility (partner needs to retrieve from his hoard so may take a while)
Put hanging rail up under kitchen shelf (need to buy correct screws...)

stealthninjamum · 02/01/2025 21:35

I’ve done a bit more in my bedroom. Three pairs of knickers and a bra are going.

Total outs ytd 10

my bedroom surfaces are looking clearer because I have emptied the contents on my bed! There is still a corner for me to sleep in. And I have done a tonne of washing. We use the spare room to dry washing and I always find it overwhelming to empty it. I have moved a load to dcs bedrooms so it’s now their problem!

Vinorosso74 · 02/01/2025 21:55

I've taken my Christmas toiletries out the packaging and put them all in my box of stuff to use (which was almost empty). They will get used up over the year.

EllieQ · 02/01/2025 22:00

Day 2 of 31 days of daily decluttering: I emptied, cleaned, and reorganised the bookcase in our bedroom, and have 5 books to go to the charity shop. Have three other bookcases to sort through that I’d like to get done before I’m back at work next week.

I also took the sandals from yesterday to shoe recycling today, so they are out of the house.

TidyClutterIsStillClutter · 02/01/2025 22:50

Plastics recycling tub - nine small sample bottles.

Food bin - elderly and whiffy blue cheese.

Four broken sets of headphones. In cupboard for about ten years, smelt a bit mildewy.

Broken occasional table moved to garage.

IndianSummer78 · 03/01/2025 02:34

Three CDs binned. Total is 3061

Conquererofallchallenges · 03/01/2025 07:27

Thanks for the ❤️ for my sewing, I am merely an amateur but do love making things! Unfortunately it feels like a really expensive hobby to have, I won't be indulging in it this year.
Finding it hard to get anything done with 3 dc and dh off of work.
3 & 4 - satin pillowcases the dds don't like. Unused so will be donated.

Thanks for this thought I get what you’re saying, and would totally agree except that our broadband is patchy at best and the aerial needs replaced. I just like the feeling of owning something and holding it in my hand. As if I have some control over it. Maybe I’m a bit nuts lol!

I agree with you about DVDs @TidyClutterIsStillClutter - I’d rather own the physical medium rather that have access on a streaming service that could remove films and TV programmes at will. Perhaps that’s an old-fashioned view!

Pigtailsandall · 03/01/2025 09:24

Day 3 out is a fiddly hair claw

I've gotten rid of a lot of packaging and recycling, although our recycling hasn't been collected in over 2weeks now. It's really piled up.

Also compressed amd condensed some similar items, opened a few Christmas relishes and chutneys and told dh it's eat or bin time for them! I've put away Christmas cards and few decorations but I didn't have the heart to put the tree on the street yet. DC has a playdate tomorrow and I thought it would be nice to have the tree out till then, so maybe tomorrow night.

Things are finally starting to fund their place, although dc bookcase is grown laing under its weight

OP posts:
Pigtailsandall · 03/01/2025 09:43

Ah typos! Sorry. I did wish things funded their place. And dc bookcase is groaning under its weight

Oh, no, not nuts! I kind of get it, I am a bit the same! I owned so much media on DVD and CD and trying to get out of the thought process myself!

Good luck either way! It’s weird isn’t it when we go through old stuff and realise how much things changed!

(Thanks to whoever - many threads ago - reminded me to ask myself who memory boxes are for! Helping me manage the contents a bit better!)
