hello, i'm here looking for recommendations on how i can make my laundry smell so good for days onwards, kind of like when someone walks past you and you can smell their fresh laundry , As of now i'm using the fairy pods along with the matching comforter and scented boosters, and dont get me wrong it smells amazingg , and i love it the only problem i find is the dry down. When my clothes dry down its either the smell is non existent or just faint and i want that scent to linger, any tips on what brands i should use or what i should do to make it smell strong for days on wards ?

Oh WOW - what nasty replies. The OP asked for opinions on a certain product - NOT people’s opinions on whether she should use fragranced washing powder or not!!

Personally if I asked for an opinion I wouldn’t give a shite about the replies from the posters that skate me for wanting lovely fragranced clothes.

OP - ignore the shit stirring posters in here that whinge and moan about fragranced laundry 🙄

Lovetosleep1 · 15/03/2024 22:01

@Allaboardthenighttrain you've obviously never worked in a school 😂. You can't help but notice the smells, laundry detergent is definitely one of the nice ones.

Agreed.

@zayzayundercover I like the smell of Ariel best, powder or pods tbh, and the nicest smelling fabric conditioner for me is still blue Lenor. Lots of posters recommended the M&S detergents though.

And if you walk past people and have to wrinkle your nose at the stench, it's the people who don't want clean smelling clothes I expect.

People aren't shit stirring. The science is on the internet if you want to check. This heavily fragranced stuff is not good for people and some of us are trying to point that out.

Yes, she asked for product recommendations. But all the products in these ranges are shit!

Didn’t you know MN hates any type of artificial scent and you should be using vinegar as a fabric softener! Tutut.

I like the fairy beads. They smell so nice! But then I also have evil plug ins dotted around the place so make of that what you will.

love me and my stinky house 💙

And don't forget to only change your sheets twice a year and have a shower every second Sunday!
Competitive minging is very Mumsnet.

StSwithinsDay · 15/03/2024 22:07

@ASighMadeOfStone
I think it's the complete opposite. Competitive hygiene, to the point of mental health issues, is rife on MN.

rio2 · 15/03/2024 22:07

Comfort ultimate care

StSwithinsDay · 15/03/2024 22:07

And not using scented boosters and fabric conditioner is not 'minging'.

Strugglebus · 15/03/2024 22:12

I’ve switched to laundry sheets because I’ve wanted to remove as many toxins from my house as possible since my daughter’s cancer diagnosis as a toddler. They smell so lovely and fresh but without the chemicals and the synthetic pong. They made my whole house smell like line dried linen!

I ran out recently so picked up my usual detergent and the smell has made me feel sick. Finally stocked up again on the sheets in such a large quantity that they actually sent me a discount code - if anyone wants it DM me, can’t recommend the sheets enough!!

Yuckyyuckyuckity · 15/03/2024 22:14

Fairy is the best fabric conditioner by far (just that clean cotton laundry smell) but what I find makes the most difference is not overfilling the washing machine, and taking out and hanging out the washing as soon as possible after the cycle finishes.

Crackermuncher · 15/03/2024 22:15

To me, it’s as much about how you wash/ dry, as what you use. It’s an art!
Firstly your detergent drawer must be scrupulously clean before every wash.
Wash with powder on a long (doesn’t have to hot) cycle. Nice fabric conditioner, Extra spin. Then, immediately shake and hang.
ideally outside but if drying indoors, then in a nice well ventilated space where stuff dries quickly . I find that capsules and liquids smell weird on clothes if they’re left to slow dry.

You're getting some typically silly Mumsnet responses here.

Best thing is to just play around with the different scents available and the quantity of conditioner you use in each wash. You can get detergent pods, fabric conditioner and scent boosters in matching fragrances with Bold and Lenor products. There's a cherry blossom one which has the triple range and a citrusy one at least. Or maybe the new Lenor Outdoorable. I've not tried it but it's supposed to be quite concentrated.

And using dettol washing machine cleaner regularly, I find this helps.

I LOVE the smell of washing!!

MartineBIT · 15/03/2024 22:22

Sounds stinky.

The crazies are out in force on Friday nights. I can't believe someone wrote two paragraphs talking about how the OP obviously must have BO as well! Nuts!

Kifra is 100% the longest lasting scented fabric softener I've found. Expensive but you can genuinely smell it weeks later. If you just want a fresh smell not perfumed, go for the one called Fresh Caps.

Oh wow, just looked up Kifra - it is v expensive. Do you need to use a lot, or does a bottle last a while?

TheFairyCaravan · 15/03/2024 22:30

I use either Daz or Surf powder, I don’t like the pods I find they make the machine smell. Sometimes I use Aldi powder, that smells like Persil imo. My favourite fabric softeners are Comfort pure or the Fairy ones. Don’t over load the machine and the scent will last.

I, always, dry on the line when I can because that makes the laundry smell so fresh.

Lasts about 15 washes for us, you just use about half a cap.

What is silly about wanting genuinely clean washing laundered properly, rather than drenching your wiffy washing in heavily perfumed chemical crap which makes people gag?

Lenor and its ilk is very environmentally unfriendly too. None of you actually NEED these products. If anything is ‘silly’ - it’s using a pointless non product because ‘it smells clean’ - a total contradiction!

Taylormiffed · 15/03/2024 22:44

Do not do this. It always smells cheap and dirty.
Line drying is best

Aren't you a charmer. Lots of people have allergies or are sensitive to strong artificial scents in other ways, eg migraine trigger.

NC03 · 15/03/2024 22:48

I use persil bio powder and the fairy scent booster
Smells lovely
Also have a look at the Clean brand of perfumes, they do laundry type scents

NC03 · 15/03/2024 22:50

Fresh laundry is also one of the top fave scents in the U.K. so some people like the scent of typical laundry stuff

ThatRoseBear · 15/03/2024 22:51

There are some batshit crazy replies on here!

Op I would recommend Wilton fabric softener, I stock up when it's on offer. The blue Lenor one, the yellow Comfort one and Comfort Pure. I switch them around as I become nose blind.
Someone mentioned Tallow and Ash, I would love to try them but they are very steep.
