hello, i'm here looking for recommendations on how i can make my laundry smell so good for days onwards, kind of like when someone walks past you and you can smell their fresh laundry , As of now i'm using the fairy pods along with the matching comforter and scented boosters, and dont get me wrong it smells amazingg , and i love it the only problem i find is the dry down. When my clothes dry down its either the smell is non existent or just faint and i want that scent to linger, any tips on what brands i should use or what i should do to make it smell strong for days on wards ?

I love blue skies comfort fabric softener. It still remains after drying.

Smelling some fake cheap perfumy smell entrenched in the fabric of your clothes is the total opposite of what is ‘clean smelling’.

Thank you for starting this thread OP 💖 I have beeb wondering the same thing for awhile now.

I used to use Persil liquid with Confort fabric conditioner which smelled brilliant. Stopped using the fabric conditioner as read it wasn't good for the washing machine, plus it contained some weird ingredient which I now don't remember.

Anyway, I use Persil powder now and the clothes don't even smell of it when they come out the machine! I think I probably need to up the dosage, but I don't want to waste the powder.

Personally, I would rather smell laundry detergent on someone than perfume tbh 🙃

I thought you were going to say she drove a Vauxhall Zafira.

Don't you mean a Vauxhall Zoflora? 🤣

Kalevala · 15/03/2024 21:04

The smell of chemicals from fabric conditioner is not 'fresh'. Fresh washing is where dirt, grease, and detergent are all washed out, so it doesn't smell of anything.

I smell of properly laundered clothes and Coco Mademoiselle darling. 😂

Oh God this!

I've bought stuff off vinted where folks clearly love these vile laundry stink things and you can smell it as soon as the inpost locker swings open. It’s vomit worthy.

It's so horrible isn't it. You buy something then need to wash it at least twice before you can wear it!

citrinetrilogy · 15/03/2024 21:07

Don't get me wrong, I like the smell of nice clean laundry as much as the next person, but some of these scent boost things are really over the top.

Those adverts... wow, ten TIMES the freshness. Way more. SO FRESH!!!.
What the heck does 'fresh' smell of anyway?

Kifra is 100% the longest lasting scented fabric softener I've found. Expensive but you can genuinely smell it weeks later. If you just want a fresh smell not perfumed, go for the one called Fresh Caps.

ive seen alot of unsolicited advice on here. im asking for recommendations, not what you hate or not so if you actually have products to actually suggest, please comment

What the heck does 'fresh' smell of anyway?
Freshly cut grass?
Freshly baked bread?
A vase of flowers?
Not chemicals anyway

Based on how 'slimey' and coated in chemicals the bedding felt when I slept at a friends house recently, I'm glad I have no sense of smell. I bet it was overpowering the amount of stuff they used.

I tell you what I dried out on the line for the first time yesterday and every year I forget how good it makes the clothes smell even though I use the same products when I dry inside

I must admit I hate the synthetic soapy/perfumey smell from detergents and conditioners. Probably doesn't help that they set my allergies off.
I dry as much outside as often as I can. It smells of the fresh outdoors then.

NerdWhoEatsMedlar · 15/03/2024 21:14

Hang it on a line outside.

Every spring I am stunned by the lovely stink of clothes brought in from the line.

Mouthfulofquiz · 15/03/2024 21:14

Wilton fabric softener is gorgeous. Definitely worth a try. Usually sold in sainsburys I think.

Please don't. No-one else wants to smell your clothes or be breathing in the horrible chemicals required.

Clothes just need to be clean.

I agree. Fabric conditioner smell is horrible.

Have you tried a few drops of eucalyptus oil? That smells fresh!

MKCH · 15/03/2024 21:16

I've started using just the Tesco own brand laundry cleanser and that makes the clothes smell fresh without the synthetic perfume smell. Great for sheets and towels too.

As in it goes in the fabric softener tray instead of fabric softener, not instead of the washing detergent
