hello, i'm here looking for recommendations on how i can make my laundry smell so good for days onwards, kind of like when someone walks past you and you can smell their fresh laundry , As of now i'm using the fairy pods along with the matching comforter and scented boosters, and dont get me wrong it smells amazingg , and i love it the only problem i find is the dry down. When my clothes dry down its either the smell is non existent or just faint and i want that scent to linger, any tips on what brands i should use or what i should do to make it smell strong for days on wards ?

Please don't. No-one else wants to smell your clothes or be breathing in the horrible chemicals required.

Clothes just need to be clean.

So true!
There nothing worse, for me, than sitting at a desk with a colleague who pongs if the synthetic smell of her latest washing craze.

It’s most off putting, not unlike the cheapest most chemical perfume one might buy from Poundland.

Based on how 'slimey' and coated in chemicals the bedding felt when I slept at a friends house recently, I'm glad I have no sense of smell. I bet it was overpowering the amount of stuff they used.

Ugh! The slimy feel and the smell doesn't wash out.
It even makes clothes flammable.

as in ive gotten used to it ? but even when i try smelling my clothes after a while i cant smell the laundry scent?

Yes, like perfume.

You’ll stink.
We have a lady in work who does this and everyone mentions it and how bad it is.

Ariel cold wash gel, fab stuff and smells fresh for ages. Discovered it in lockdown as it was all dh could get and we've stuck with it.

WhimsicalMoth · 15/03/2024 21:21

Lenor Gold orchid fabric softener is so so strong. Well it is when I use it anyway. It's a gorgeous smell, and can always smell it once clothes have been folded and put away when you open up a drawer

Lunabetty · 15/03/2024 21:23

I LOVE Fairy, especially the almond milk and makuna honey scent. I do agree though, it doesn't last that long :(

WhatFlavourIsIt · 15/03/2024 21:24

I use fairy fresh sent booster. Almond milk & something. Smells amazing.

iwafs · 15/03/2024 21:24

I'm sorry OP, but laundry with a strong smell burns my eyes and gives me a headache. I step back if people's clothes are heavily scented with laundry stuff. Like a pp says, people will find it quite unpleasant, which is the opposite of what you are going for.

Lovetosleep1 · 15/03/2024 21:25

I also work in a school and love it when the students smell like laundry softener. It just smells clean to me and I use the fairy scent boosters for my kids uniform because of this.

Hear, hear! And while I’m at it, please don’t sell your stinky clothes on Vinted.

sandgrown · 15/03/2024 21:29

I hate the strong smell of scent boosters . It actually gives me a headache . My stepchildren’s mum used really strong smelling detergent and I hated handling their clothes.

Ponderingwindow · 15/03/2024 21:31

Please just stop using the artificial scents on your laundry. They are harmful to so many people.

MrsMoastyToasty · 15/03/2024 21:35

A lot of fabric softeners have their basis in animal fats. ...

ImAlwaysknackered · 15/03/2024 21:36

Didn’t you know MN hates any type of artificial scent and you should be using vinegar as a fabric softener! Tutut.

I like the fairy beads. They smell so nice! But then I also have evil plug ins dotted around the place so make of that what you will.

love me and my stinky house 💙

I hope you don't mind me asking OP, but do you have a problem with body odour? Washing clothes in too many chemicals, and using products which leave a residue (hence the smell) is likely to exacerbate things unfortunately.

Unwanted body odour can be a result of sickness, or personal hygiene but it's always important to try and get to the bottom of why you have problems. I get that it's embarrassing but a colleague at work struggled for years and was too ashamed to address it, it wasn't until a few of us took her to one side and confronted it that she acknowledged the issue. She ended up having Botox in her armpits to reduce the sweating!

One of my favourites too!

ODFOx · 15/03/2024 21:42

Nothing smells better than a line dry. IMO

DD likes a perfumed smell like you so she uses Fairy fresh scent booster. Her washing (and bedroom, and car) smells very distinctive.

HungerPangs · 15/03/2024 21:43

I love the smell of clean laundry, too, OP.
The coconut laundry liquid from Aldi mentioned upthread has a lasting scent. Use with Lenor Outdoorable fabric conditioner for extra oomph.

MN-ers seem to get hysterical about fabric conditioner, though. And other peoples perfume. And showering regularly. And washing bedsheets regularly…

Each to their own. Plenty of people smell a lot worse than a bit of Lenor Grin.

I don't think you should have an opinion or be referencing what you like your students to smell of.

StSwithinsDay · 15/03/2024 21:46

what i should do to make it smell strong for days on wards

Do you mean you work on wards in a hospital and you want a strong smell for those days? Or do you mean you want a strong smell for days after doing laundry?

tillytoodles1 · 15/03/2024 21:47

My friend said how nice my clothes smell although I can't smell anything she said my flat smells the same.
I use bold pods, any fragrance.
