Welcome to this long running thread, a lot of posters have been here a long time but all newbies and returners are very welcome, do join us!

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - there are too many of them.

There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.

There are 5 zones in the house that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism! You may need to adjust the zones to suit your house.

Habit of the month of October is paper clutter http://www.flylady.net/d/habits-of-the-month/october/

Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.

• Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
• Tuesday: plan & play
• Wednesday: anti-procrastination
• Thursday: errand day
• Friday: clean car & purse out and date night (which can be anything you make it, night in, night with friends, actual dates are not always going to happen)
• Saturday: family fun day
• Sunday: renew your spirit - again whatever you make of it, but it is time just for you.

Common acronyms we use:

• LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
• DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
• LMS: lose/lost my shit
• DNLMS: did not lose my shit

I will try and update the links every day, but they do update automatically on the website so you can just click on the ones in this post.

Apparently the app is very useful too, I am going to try that this month, I know some are already using it.

po3.4
❗️Ring skip hire people to check if we can put an extra mattress on and pay post-invoice (they carry a surcharge)
❗️Gather remaining BRCs into as few as possible and put in long cupboard*
❗️Put some stuff away that I rescued from BRCs

*I know this is far from ideal, and in a perfect world I’d have no BRCs now, but… a perfect world this ain’t 🤣 I am so tired, and I’m very happy with how much has gone on the skip.

HillsBesideTheSea · 24/10/2023 17:51

A major something else has been uncovered and instead of being case of a thing being fixed and some new plaster. It is going to be a major structural issue and will have to go through the insurance company. And unfortunately as access to the area is through my bedroom means that i will have nowhere to sleep for a while. And thus the room of random crap will need to be completely emptied and sorted. Which i have neither time, nor energy to do; and it has to be done yesterday.

Needless to say having this thrown at me yesterday evening today i have been rather stuck and not really able to focus or properly function today due to the overwhelm. So i ran errands and have been trying to get some order in my brain so that i can get things done.

But first i should get the kitchen a little tamed and tea on the go. Hangry in this house is a real thing and causes real problems.

DitzyDaffodils · 24/10/2023 18:08

Im so sorry for your troubles Hills. I hope this latest disaster is resolved quickly

Well done for filling the skip Sing

SingToTheSky · 24/10/2023 19:59

po3.5
❗️Move dry clothes from curtain rails into wardrobe and put away picnic blanket that was drying there
❗️Get rid of empty bottles etc in bathroom
❗️Clean shelves, sink and windowsill in bathroom

HauntingHazel · 24/10/2023 20:28

Oh hills that's awful! I'm so sorry you're having to go through all of that! I hope it can get fixed quickly, but I know there's hoops to go through with insurance.

DomesticElf · 24/10/2023 21:34

Hills sounds like it would be quicker to demolish the whole thing and rebuild. I am sorry it's such a protracted affair.
Hazel it's taking unusually long for us because sellers have been dithering about selling despite putting house on the market. Usually it's 6-8 weeks. We were ready to proceed ages ago. Thankfully there is some definitive movement happening now, but I won't celebrate until all legal paperwork is done and we have the keys.

It's my toddler's birthday this week, so not much deep cleaning will get done.
I've done the home bleugh including changing bedsheets though.

SingToTheSky · 24/10/2023 22:47

Tuesday
🧽gathered loads more stuff for the skip
🧽gathered more stuff for charity
🧽cleared and cleaned top of living room Kallax
🧽collected stuff for DD1 to put back in her room
🧽made a poster for H’s work
🧽cleared and cleaned kitchen windowsill
🧽cleaned kitchen windows inside and out
🧽phoned hire people, paid surcharge and put Cagletini’s old mattress on the skip as the last item
🧽rearranged a few Kallax shelves so it looks less ridiculous and the organised baskets are all on the top row
🧽cleaned mirrors and windows in bathroom
🧽mould sprayed bathroom fittings (not terribly successful)
🧽cleaned windowsill, sink and bath edge in bathroom
🧽fixed towel hooks in bathroom

HauntingHazel · 25/10/2023 04:09

You've had a busy day Sing!

Ta Das:
💀 vacuumed laundry room
💀 mopped laundry room
💀 LOLs x3 (mainly sheets & towels)
💀 cleared out pantry for painters
💀 vacuumed main floor
💀 put some outside decorations up, including my new 13ft Jack Skellington 😍 with help from DH & DS
💀 raked & bagged 8 large outside bin bags full of leaves, with help from DS

I still haven't gone grocery shopping, although I did figure out meals for the week.
I'll attach a picture of my new Jack!

Morning, oops I seem to have prioritised a bit longer in bed over posting on here. Yet again I can't get the links to work (using a different device) but at a guess I would suggest the mission might be to clear your bedside tables of any clutter, dust/polish and rearrange nicely. Sorry!

SingToTheSky · 25/10/2023 09:10

Wow hazel that is so cool 🤩

I slept late, need to get up now. Cagletini is six today, it’s time for presents! Not actually sure what we are doing today.

HillsBesideTheSea · 25/10/2023 11:42

I just tried to access the flylady website and apparently they are giving the website a makeover (aka changing all the things) so the launch pad page which i have bookmarked now gives you very sparse options. And after 6 different popups I have blocked the sucker for now. I hate tech and i hate change - especially when it used to work even if it was sickenly twee

SingToTheSky · 25/10/2023 13:40

Afternoon all. Went for birthday breakfast, everyone else is now taking her out as she wanted to visit a nice park with a maze. I’m not up to the journey so I’m going to potter at home instead while waiting for the skip to be collected.

po3.1
❗️Change into comfier clothes
❗️Put some stuff away
❗️Pack another box for H as I can see plenty of things to go in now

Then sit down and watch Netflix for a bit

DitzyDaffodils · 25/10/2023 14:43

That's brilliant Hazel

Happy birthday to Cagletini Sing

That's annoying Hills I stumbled across the archives page, no idea how, bookmarked it so I could get back there and was slowly working my way through all the articles. Suppose it'll be all messed up now and I won't know what I've read and what I haven't. I hate improvements

Love how you've been doing FlyLady so long you know how she thinks and can guess the missions ED

I'm doing nothing productive today. The naughty corner beckons

HouseorHome · 25/10/2023 14:54

Yesterday was a wash out (exhausted, went for a 2 hr walk with a friend, back to exhausted) so just getting on with yesterday's PO3 today...

PO3 (DIY)
📌Clean all staircase with sugar soap (leave to dry)
📌Undercoat (leave to dry)
📌light Sand/wood filler

I've got to wait 4 hours now for the undercoat to dry so I may or may not do more later - probably should do some wood filler actually... The plan is to do a coat a day, sanding down after each one has dried. So glad I have actually started. Hate the job - loads of hard to reach places but I know it will make a big difference when it's done. Then we can go and order the carpet on Saturday!

In the meantime:

PO3: perpetuals; ensuite floor & drain; basic clean rest of ensuite

HillsBesideTheSea · 25/10/2023 14:59

Lack of sleep and noisy people have resulted in a massive migraine. And contacting the doc gives you terrible hold music whilst you wait to get to the front of the queue only for noone to then pick up. <sigh>

I am going to go run some errands and see if i can get some focus stuff done whilst out of the house. It is not the seriously requiring full focus and functioning important stuff i was trying to do before people went about bashing walls. but hopefully i will feel like i have achieved something today.

Bornlazy · 25/10/2023 20:55

Just typed a big message and lost it 😭

I'll catch up properly tomorrow as today has been packing, unpacking and 2 million LOL. DS both need more practice as a lot of what they had washed whilst we were away had to be re washed as it smelled awful.

I have a cough, the really annoying kind that just sits there at the back of your throat waiting on you taking a deep or even a normal breath so it can set off a fit of coughing that makes you feel like the top of your head is coming off 🙈

Sing happy birthday to your dd
Hills sorry the house is not straightforward. I hope something can be sorted for you.

ED caravan is 1hr15 mins away, which is fine now it's just dh and me but felt like an eternity when the boys were small.

SingToTheSky · 25/10/2023 22:53

Wednesday
🎂took Cagletini for birthday breakfast with DD1 and her boyfriend
🎂ordered tesco
🎂tidied in living room - two bin bags out and shelves neatened
🎂packed up some random stuff of H’s
🎂lots of cleaning in kitchen - cupboard doors, hob, appliances etc scrubbed
🎂put washed towels in dryer
🎂ordered a few things
🎂put Cagletini to bed
🎂wrote a big cleaning list for Thursday*

*it is a huge list and I have no idea if I’ll manage it all, so I’m going to try and sleep in the hope that I’ll have plenty of energy tomorrow <hollow laugh>

EfficientlyDecluttering · 26/10/2023 07:41

Thanks @Bornlazy it is definitely food for thought. Loads of my friends are acquiring campervans too but again not sure how keen DH is and I'd be the one doing all the reaearch.

@HillsBesideTheSea glad its not just me with the website. Sorry to hear about the unexpected building stuff, your house seems like a bit of a nightmare.

@DitzyDaffodils I have kind of run out of guesses for today.

But (I think!) Thursday is Errand Day. How about tossing out any odd socks and tatty knickers as today's mission.

OP posts:
EfficientlyDecluttering · 26/10/2023 07:59

Oh, its back. My guesses weren't too far off

http://flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60

Also the sneak peek if you do want to catch up with the week's missions, I was a couple of days premature with the nightstand and dresser 🤦‍♀️

SingToTheSky · 26/10/2023 09:33

Morning all. Up and at ‘em today, I have so far cleaned some of the bathroom, put a wash on and swept the landing and stairs which were beyond gross. Hopefully if I keep on top of them better in future they won’t get so bad (H was doing them more before) but long term I want to remove all the carpet tbh. No idea what’s underneath (social housing built in 2012, so nothing exciting 🤣).

po3.1
❗️Clear bottom of stairs and sweep that bit
❗️Vacuum all of landing and stairs
❗️Take some clean clothes and towels upstairs to put away

HouseorHome · 26/10/2023 11:08

You're being super productive @SingToTheSky !

Thank you @EfficientlyDecluttering - good guesses!

Ta da:

✅Washed bedding set 1
✅Been to DIY shop for wood filler (found what I had was hardened!)
✅Applied wood filler
✅Sanded bottom of bathroom door ready for undercoat (peeling paint - hoping I can just do a patch up job...)

PO3

➡Damp dust spare bedroom (including shutters & windowsill)
➡Put spare bedding away
➡Wash bedding set 2

SingToTheSky · 26/10/2023 14:23

Will have the house to myself for a bit shortly, need to make the most of it.

po3.2
❗️Harpic in loo
❗️Febreze landing/stair carpet and sofa
❗️Replace hay etc in boxes on hutch

HouseorHome · 26/10/2023 15:13

Ta da:
✅Damp dust spare bedroom (including shutters & windowsill)
✅Put spare bedding away
✅Wash bedding set 2
✅Sand down banisters
✅Apply second coat of undercoat
✅Walk Dog
✅Put bedding set 1 on bed

PO3.2
➡Put bedding set 2 on bed
➡Thorough vacuum master bedroom + spare bedroom (inc clean skirting boards)
➡Clear painting stuff away for the day

HouseorHome · 26/10/2023 16:39

Done all of that now.
Definitely done for the day now - I am physically knackered, which is a good indication of how unfit I am.
Hoping that my fitness/stamina will increase with time...

SingToTheSky · 26/10/2023 17:00

Starting to feel a little overwhelmed! 😒 Time to tame the chaos.

po3.3
❗️Fully finish cleaning bathroom so it’s guest ready
❗️Tidy some more in living room
❗️Clean bunny hutch

Can I admit I’m also feeling a bit sad, for want of a better word, because I know that I’ll be so tired after this week (and I’ll be back at work, and uni has fallen by the wayside while the skip is here) that I’ll struggle to maintain it. I need to actually have a routine to stop everything getting bad again. I will find that easier once H has moved out I think but I can’t let it get this bad again in the meantime! At least I know that a full to bursting 8 yard skip’s worth is OUT though, so that is a huge amount less to manage even if much of it was already outside - all the bin bags I’ve filled still represent a massive load of clutter!
