Welcome to this long running thread, a lot of posters have been here a long time but all newbies and returners are very welcome, do join us!

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - there are too many of them.

There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.

There are 5 zones in the house that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism! You may need to adjust the zones to suit your house.

Habit of the month of October is paper clutter http://www.flylady.net/d/habits-of-the-month/october/

Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.

• Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
• Tuesday: plan & play
• Wednesday: anti-procrastination
• Thursday: errand day
• Friday: clean car & purse out and date night (which can be anything you make it, night in, night with friends, actual dates are not always going to happen)
• Saturday: family fun day
• Sunday: renew your spirit - again whatever you make of it, but it is time just for you.

Common acronyms we use:

• LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
• DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
• LMS: lose/lost my shit
• DNLMS: did not lose my shit

I will try and update the links every day, but they do update automatically on the website so you can just click on the ones in this post.

Apparently the app is very useful too, I am going to try that this month, I know some are already using it.

DitzyDaffodils · 22/10/2023 23:16

After my nightmare and finally getting enough sleep, today has been all about cleaning, tidying and organising. Then finding a fireworks display to attend for bonfire night 🌋 and a bit of decluttering, before settling down to watch YouTube before bed

You'll feel better Sing once the skip is here. I'm feeling stressed just reading about all those bags of trash piled everywhere waiting to go

EfficientlyDecluttering · 23/10/2023 07:20

Some great Flying going on over the weekend! Well done on hiring the skip @SingToTheSky

I was mostly at home yesterday so

🧺3 x LOL washed and line dried as it was such lovely weather.
🛏️Our bed changed.
🪀Sorted some toys for decluttering.
🍞Made some sourdough bread (had been in process since Thursday as I hadn’t used my starter for a couple of months and needed a bit of TLC)
👨‍🌾spent an hour at the allotment
🍗cooked roast dinner

Monday - we are now in Zone 4, the Master Bedroom or Boudoir.

http://www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60

The Flightplan is here, today’s mission is to spend 15 mins getting rid of anything that does not belong in your bedroom.

Monday is Home Blessing day according to Flylady, biut of course you can do it on another day or break it down to smaller tasks. Change beds, empty wastepaper bins, dust and run the vac round.

SingToTheSky · 23/10/2023 09:07

Ditzy what happened, I couldn’t work it out from the emojis although I guess it’s something house related 😬😩

I am feeling quite bleary eyed this morning and glad the skip isn’t arriving till the afternoon. Hopefully I can sort even more stuff by the time it arrives. It’s nice not to have the usual Sunday night/Monday morning “too much to do” feeling with it being half term but it’s just been replaced with decluttering stress really 🤣

I am excited though. Feeling worried about not making the most of it but I just have to push through that and get as much out as possible!

po3.1
❗️Book dentist
❗️Breakfast
❗️Start sorting BRCs and be even more ruthless 😩

HillsBesideTheSea · 23/10/2023 13:56

Well i am going to have the tidiest cleanest room by the end of the day. Mattress and bed slats are currently in the bathroom. I know longer remember the safe place i put the curtain stuffs. And the only thing that will shortly be left in my room some shelves and desk tops, an ikea unit that is a faff to disassemble and way to big to attempt to move, and a bed frame. Landing cupboard has been completely stripped out and is on its way to be completely cleared, and the office is awaiting a few more bits to be removed. It is just that i need to figure out where to store them for the next month. Ain't no more room in the inn. I swear if we could have put a pod on the street that would have made this a heck of a lot easier!

ta da
drink way too much coffee
inhale way too much dust
make way too many trips up and down stairs/ladders for bad knees
trap fingers whilst moving stuff way too many times (although lets be honest once is too many)
deal with poorly ds
figure out tea

Right i better get on. I am never moving again tomo.... <sigh> Sad

DitzyDaffodils · 23/10/2023 15:06

Oh sorry for the confusion Sing, nothing happened, it was the story of my dream/nightmare. It was one of those really real ones, where you "wake up" in the dream and think you're awake but you're still asleep, and then you wake up for real and are disoriented for a few moments because it seemed so real. Actually that does sound confusing and it was probably more confusing in pictures 🙈 just ignore me!

Bornlazy · 23/10/2023 17:19

I am off on holiday this week so yesterday dh and I came down to our static caravan for a few days. It's lovely to get away but it's absolutely freezing. I have more crap down here too it's a bit like a time warp from when my ds were small so need to chip away at that.

Sunday TaDas
🍬 cats fed
🍬 floors swept
🍬 lol washed and hung up to dry
🍬 lol put away
🍬 packed our stuff for trip away
🍬 unpacked when we arrived
🍬 dinner made and then relax 🤗

I fantasise about hiring a skip and just throwing everything in the bin. We did have one recently when we replaced our roof but there wasn't a lot of room left after all the old roof went in. I get stuck in my mind thinking about selling things or donating them and end doing nothing. I need to be more proactive.

SingToTheSky · 23/10/2023 18:44

Oh that’s a relief ditzy!

We filled the skip in two hours! There’s room for more stuff to be thrown on the top, so hopefully I can manage a bit more sorting of BRCs as every bin bag I can shove on there is a plus, but I’m absolutely shattered right now!

Unfortunately my bed has lots of random stuff on it from when I was sorting before the skip arrived 😩

EfficientlyDecluttering · 23/10/2023 18:53

I think this is the first time in all my years on the thread that someone jas hired a skip for decluttering as opposed to building work <pins medal on @SingToTheSky >

@HillsBesideTheSea I think you deserve one too for all the lifting and shifting.

@Bornlazy I'd love to have a static caravan but don't think DH is keen (he's a bit of a stay-at-home type). His cousin has one and often posts about how much she loves it there.

DH has been wiped out by his covid and flu jabs on Saturday. He's been asleep most of the last 24 hours. So I can't do any flying in the bedroom (that's my excuse anyway).

OP posts:
SingToTheSky · 23/10/2023 19:21

Aw thanks ED tbf it was mainly needed due to DIY stuff, in that it was old furniture (not good enough to donate) that we’d replaced when we redid the Caglets’ rooms so in a way we didn’t actually gain a huge amount of space. But definitely progress and I am very proud <buffs medal> 😁

I haven’t moved since my previous post though 😴

Bornlazy · 23/10/2023 19:45

ED we have had our van for 16 years and we are now at a stage where we can go alone and leave the dc behind after years of the moaning they didn't want to go. I still have to pinch myself that we have this second home to go to.

I could easily fill a skip so now you've set the scene Sing prepare for another one on the thread 😜

JewelleryCat · 23/10/2023 20:30

Did quite a lot of cleaning today which was good for me and the online grocery shop came so I unpacked all of that

HillsBesideTheSea · 23/10/2023 21:16

So the work that was done today has proven this is not getting fixed before christmas.

<sobs>

I am so done with this fucking house and its issues!

SingToTheSky · 23/10/2023 21:41

Oh hills that’s so disappointing, I’m sorry 💐

Cat well done, it’s all progress!

Born it does feel really liberating chucking stuff in the skip!

EfficientlyDecluttering · 23/10/2023 22:41

Oh @HillsBesideTheSea nightmare, you have been tackling this house forever, it sounds like a complete nightmare. Sending coffee.

@Bornlazy how far is your van from where you live? That would be one issue for us, I’d want to be fairly close to home but that means fairly limited options (we are 45 mins or so from a coast but it is not a main tourist area). But I love the idea of just being able to go after work for the weekend.

@JewelleryCat well done, I hate unpacking shopping but no one else can do it to my standards.

As it’s half term for many of us, and people might be having time off work, DCs friends round at short notice, or indeed their own friends, I thought I’d post a link to the Flylady Crisis Cleaning (CHAOS) lesson. CHAOS stands for Can’t Have Anyone Over Syndrome. This lesson talks you through getting the parts the guest will see presentable, broken down into small chunks of time with breaks, so it all seems less overwhelming.

OP posts:
DomesticElf · 23/10/2023 22:45

Sing yep, skip is cathartic! Born I highly recommend it too, I've done it recently when we moved house and chucked stuff mercilessly, and pretty much decluttered in a go.
Ditzy that's a very kind offer, thank you, but I need to do a bit more organising of my closet before I can commit to more hangers.

Our house buying is looking promising. If all goes to plan we might be moving again in December. For the last time, I hope.

I have been doing my routines and keeping on top of usual stuff. May do some deep cleaning later in the week.

EfficientlyDecluttering · 23/10/2023 22:49

Oh, I'd forgotten you had a skip last time you moved @DomesticElf Decluttering ⭐️for you too. How exciting about another move!

OP posts:
SingToTheSky · 24/10/2023 07:01

Monday
👉booked dentist (anti procrastination)
👉booked doctors appt (anti procrastination and I only did that because they rang me!)
👉paid skip invoice
👉sorted some more BRC
👉filled the 8yd skip in two hours!
👉arranged collection of skip for sometime today - could we get a bit more on top if we kept it longer, yes, but at this point it’s only going to be stuff that could just be bagged up for the bin anyway, and it’s a bit stressful keeping the right parking space clear for access etc.

I’ve woken up annoyingly early due to torrential rain (feeling most grateful that it stayed dry yesterday!) and I’m very achy from the skip filling, but I’ve got to actually get up and get on with stuff rather than wasting hours. I just need to be quiet as nobody else is awake.

Last night I did have a look at the crisis cleaning page (good idea to share ED 💐) and I made a list of all the stuff that needs tidying and cleaning etc because it’s a lot and I need direction! So I’m going to just gradually power through that, hopefully 😬

po3.1
❗️Get ready for the day including putting heating on 🥶
❗️Collect DD1’s remaining stuff (she was storing it in our room while decorating) in a box so I can get rid of old Kallax basket
❗️Go through a BRC

EfficientlyDecluttering · 24/10/2023 08:53

Ooops, overslept, a bit this morning, quick link dump.

Well, I tried, the Flylady website seems to be a bit broken. Errm at a guess the mission might be to declutter and dust your dressing table and do some anti-procrastination.

OP posts:
SingToTheSky · 24/10/2023 10:58

BRC in my room felt pretty difficult although I did get plenty out, and DD1 now has more of her stuff in her room. We’ve also brought all the games and puzzles and random crap down from atop the Kallax in the living room, it was an avalanche waiting to happen! I’ve sorted through some and a few other bits have gone on the skip. We’ve also pulled out a few BRCs from the awkward cupboard in the hallway - I wasn’t planning to even open the door to it TBH, it is absolutely stuffed to bursting and these BRCs will make barely any difference, but still.

Currently taking a “break” to draw something H needs for a work poster 🤔

po3.2
❗️Finish drawing
❗️Process a few more puzzles/games (take upstairs or to charity bag etc)
❗️Go through BRCs

HouseorHome · 24/10/2023 11:34

Morning! I've been away for a few days visiting my hometown. I've got the rest of the week off work and have made the decision to prioritise the DIY job I started a very long time ago...it lets the whole house down and is stopping us getting the new carpet that is desperately needed!
It is to paint the staircase. Not all of it - mainly the handrails and finials - it has already been stripped right back. Two flights of stairs 😣.

PO3 (DIY)
📌Clean all staircase with sugar soap (leave to dry)
📌Undercoat (leave to dry)
📌light Sand/wood filler

Will aim to get the perpetuals and some zone work done whilst I am waiting for things to dry.

SingToTheSky · 24/10/2023 14:31

Well done house that sounds like good use of time!

I’ve been managing more decluttering, I’m leaving the tricky decisions ATM in favour of just getting whatever is obvious rubbish and as Dana K White (“a slob comes clean”) calls them, “duh donations”.

The problem with that is it means the house is still an absolute shitshow, there is stuff EVERYWHERE. I haven’t cleaned anything at all yet and I’m finding it really hard to motivate myself when the clutter feels much more pressing! I feel like if I clean some stuff it’ll just make the rest look even worse, I know it’s illogical but I’m going round in circles with it.

po3.3
❗️Get more stuff out to skip
❗️Clean top of living room Kallax and return a couple of things that are meant to be there
❗️Clear and clean kitchen windowsill

HauntingHazel · 24/10/2023 15:53

Sing you have been so productive!
home that sounds like a really good idea to get the DIY done that is holding you back from other things. It does sound like a lot to do, but it'll be all done before you know it!
Elf exciting that you're making progress with the house purchase. I still can't believe how long it takes to go through the process over there. It's usually about 6 weeks here (used to be a month, until they made certain changes to regulations a year or so ago).
ED I thought I had slept in this morning when Coco woke me up, thankfully I realised it is my day off! I hope you aren't too far behind today.

To Dos:
🦇 lots of LOLs
🦇 vacuuming
🦇 meal planning
🦇 grocery pickup order
🦇 meal prep
🦇 bake brownie base for cheesecake
🦇 redo nails (huge question mark on that one)
🦇 put up outside decorations, now they are done with the roof!

It's almost 9am here, I should get moving!

HauntingHazel · 24/10/2023 15:54

hills I'm sorry to hear things aren't going to plan in the house. Did they not get much done, or did they uncover something else?
