small rooms

Artex ceilings. It's a Victorian period flat and I love everything else about it but I cringe every time I look at the and curse the previous owners who thought they were a good idea

AuntieDolly · 15/01/2023 11:26

Damp patch on the chimney breast. Never gets any bigger or smaller and no idea where it come from

Kitchen is too small. Waiting until building work/ prices/ availability improves before extending. We've been here 16 years and it's a beautiful kitchen (refurbished by us) and tricky to extend, but I've had enough of pokiness!

2 reception rooms, 4 bedrooms- I love my old house, but the kitchen gives me rage.

Similar here. I love my house but would love a bigger kitchen. Defo something I will get done when the situation improves.

DadANDPK · 15/01/2023 11:47

Ok I'm sticking with trivial as per the title.

kitchen taps. Hot tap is on the right. I'm right handed, Cold tap is 'behind' the bit of the tap where the water comes out & when you move it out of the way, it ends up over the draining board -flooding it, if you don't notice.

it's all getting replaced when I get the new kitchen in. I just need to find tradies who'll do a good kitchen fitting!!

MsJuniper · 15/01/2023 13:28

Kitchen too small, downstairs loo too big. If the walls were moved a couple of feet it would make a huge difference.

We only have one family living space and now the children are growing it would be nice to have space for a kitchen table so we had options not to get on top of each other!

Goingundergroundagain · 15/01/2023 13:30

Sloping drive.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 15/01/2023 13:31

There are doors everywhere. And they all have low down handles that catch you in the arm if you're not careful.

Leobynature · 15/01/2023 13:32

No downstairs toilet. Which is so annoying as I extended a few years ago and didn’t put one in

JamMakingWannaBe · 15/01/2023 13:33

The bathroom basin was badly fitted so water drains off to the side and not the front. We would have to rip out a load of wall tiles to fix it. I'm constantly wiping up a puddle of water.

shivawn · 15/01/2023 13:36

Blue bathtub. We replaced the blue sink and toilet after we moved in but the bathtub would be a huge job because of the way it's closed in so we just live with it.

FindingMeno · 15/01/2023 13:37

Badly laid laminate.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 15/01/2023 13:38

Oh and the carpet things aren't wide enough so bits of the carpet have come up (rented)

Lonelycrab · 15/01/2023 13:40

The mahoosive oak tree just the other side of my fence that deposits its leaves every winter into my little garden, six inches deep by the time it’s done. I have about 2 car loads waiting to go to the tip right now….

fastandthecurious1 · 15/01/2023 13:42

Shared walkway to front door with neighbours ( even though we get on ) both have side entrances

TeddyTrucks · 15/01/2023 13:44

It was extended either side before we bought it, right to the boundaries - so if you want window cleaners etc to access the back, they have to bring their stuff through the house. Likewise our garden bin has to be wheeled back and forth when we need to load it with grass clippings/fallen leaves etc.

We've lived here for 16 years, and didn't really think of it being such a problem at the time as it was in a perfect location. But now it drives us nuts.

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 15/01/2023 13:51

Fairly modern new build here. Everything is just too small.....by a few mm. Want to add a piece of furniture? Nope, a few mm too small. Want to rearrange a room? A few mm too small for the new layout. Does my head in.

We have a huge drive for a new build. Holds 4 cars, which is just as well as we have 4 cars. But it's only 1 car wide. God help you if you want the bottom car out.

TwoMonthsOff · 15/01/2023 13:53

@BrioLover can you fit a canopy over

OatFox · 15/01/2023 13:54

No downstairs toilet.

glovepillow22 · 15/01/2023 13:54

Concrete floor so freezing underfoot

It's my dream home but seems to have a '45 min rule' - 45 mins drive from everything. 45 mins from the closest shopping centre and it bugs me I can't just go there with a baby, it's a whole mission and dreading he'll cry the whole way.
45 mins from mum groups, from where my friends live. From the beach.
It makes me stay a home a lot.

Ah I feel this- our previous home was the same! You end up doing way less as it seems such an effort to get anywhere. We downsized even with a young family to move to the centre of a lovely suburb and absolutely love it! Kirsty and Phil are right location is everything!

Mine- north facing house, roof leaks, drafts wooden floorboards, carpet needs replacing.
Makes it sound awful- I love our house!

Phos · 15/01/2023 14:10

Creaky floor in the hallway.

Mommabear20 · 15/01/2023 14:16

Thin narrow kitchen,
Downstairs bathroom,
Damp and mould,
Front door opens straight into front room,
Radiators are disproportionately small for the size of rooms and window are too big,
No door on the kitchen,
Fridge in lounge as kitchen is so small,
Never any parking outside so getting the kids in and out of the car is awful,
Not enough plugs!

Can you tell I hate our house? 😂 the joys of renting in an expensive city!

Pearlyqueen21 · 15/01/2023 14:20

DH got a handyman in to fit 3 floating shelves in an alcove where our TV is placed in front of. Neither of them thought it would be sensible to position all 3 above the top of the tv 🤦‍♀️ so now we have one shelf of DVDs half behind the telly, and a big gap between the top shelf and the ceiling. It must seem trivial to him, but it fucks me off no end. Redoing it would make a mess of the paint job so I have accepted it's staying like this for a while.

Stupid basin design in the bathroom which means manky water gathers and sits either side of the central tap, from when wet hands use the soap or hand wash. Can’t understand what company designed and manufactured it! It’s annoying and grotty.

Supertatato · 15/01/2023 14:23

Weird 10mm gap between the plasterboard and the brick making it impossible to hang anything on the walls

Vitriolinsanity · 15/01/2023 14:27

My next door neighbours cunting fig tree. It overhangs my garden and I have to get it cut because I'm allergic to it's bastard sap. The leaves are huge and when they fall are slippy AF. NDN helpfully ignores all requests for maintenance insisting that I can eat the yummy figs.

I hate figs. Always have. Never eat soft pappy fruit that looks like lady parts.
