Has anyone removed their salad drawers?

I'm quite short and our fridge is tiny so it's really difficult to take stuff out. I end up ignoring it and everything goes off Blush so I've taken them out.

Has anyone else?

My salad drawers have salad and veg in.
I use the next shelf up for salad and veg too!

cravingthelook · 16/04/2022 09:27

I have a wee plastic lazy Susan on a shelf for the condiments ... what a difference

I put the cheeses in the drawer

I too am sad

CaptainMyCaptain · 16/04/2022 13:48

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles both drawers are exactly the same but the right hand side just gets too cold. Anything at the back gets frozen. I'm going to try drinks or condiments on that side and see what happens.

TheDoveFromAboveCooCoo · 16/04/2022 13:50

I am totally transferring all jars to salad drawers and salad to a shelf. Fruit and veg can get easily forgotten in this house!

MrsMoastyToasty · 16/04/2022 13:54

I have a dilemma.

I removed the salad drawers from my old fridge before it went to the tip, because, well you never know when you might want a spare salad drawer. They don't fit the new fridge.

What is a girl to do?

BojoMamanBebe · 16/04/2022 14:00

The salad drawers are at the bottom. How can you not reach them? Are you a Borrower?

BojoMamanBebe · 16/04/2022 14:01

I need a diagram of your fridge

Mommabear20 · 16/04/2022 14:03

DH uses it for his chocolate stash!

CaptainMyCaptain · 16/04/2022 15:16

I have swapped the right hand salad drawer with the cartons of milk. I don't know why I never thought of this before. Thank you OP.

I can reach them but they are awkward to open and it's difficult to get into them. If I was taller it may have helped a bit but the configuration is rubbish

This had never occurred to me but I’m going to join the rebellion and remove the drawers. My fridge door opens against the kitchen door and it can be a pain to get in the drawers properly. Away with them!

Hersetta427 · 17/04/2022 12:45

I did - definitely don't regret it. Used the space for all the tall things in my fridge.

I’m such a conformist that I have never considered this but it is actually quite clever. Think I will give it a go, thanks OP.

Benmac · 17/04/2022 16:13

I keep lager in mine

You've got raw chicken next to cooked food at the top of your fridge. WTAF!
Hersetta427 · 17/04/2022 17:16

Sorry don't want or need your approval for the contents of my fridge so bore off somewhere else.

Helpwithbills · 17/04/2022 17:25

I have beer in mine 😂

Alright touchy. It wasn't an entirely serious comment.

Hope you don't shit yourself when you get salmonella.

Hersetta427 · 17/04/2022 17:47

Really as it sounded completely opposite to 'not completely serious'.

Thanks but I am fine with my sealed pies being next to my sealed chicken. Not that it's any of your business. Managed to survive into my 50's without food poisoning but that's for being so worried.

Ok. I can see you're very sensitive. I was genuinely messing around although it isn't great food hygiene or it wasn't last time I looked. Maybe it doesn't matter anymore.

Enjoy your fridge.

Hersetta427 · 17/04/2022 17:58

Not sensitive in the slightest- am old enough and ugly enough to understand everyone has different opinions and as such yours means nothing to me.

I will enjoy by fridge thanks.

JennyForeigner · 17/04/2022 18:00

This title is the mumsnet filth I'm here for

sueelleker · 17/04/2022 18:23

@Jenjenn

No but I use one for all the cheese (handy for coralling little packets) and the other for hiding treats. Chocolate in the bottom, bag of salad on top, kids haven't twigged it in years Grin
I keep cheese in mine too.
Hurstlandshome · 17/04/2022 18:37

@Kitkat151

God you must have a boring life🙄
It's in the 'housekeeping' section. If you have no interest why bother coming? Just to be sarky and possible make the op feel bad? Hope whatever you're going through passes x
FailedFledge · 17/04/2022 18:40

Mine is the overflow fridge that came with me when I moved back in with parents. Just checked and the yogurts in my salad compartment expired in October. I think I might get rid of the compartment as I clearly can't be trusted to use it.
