No decluttering last week - weather was too hot, plus there was the general end-of-term busyness. Brought home DD’s exercise books for the year, so they will need a home.

So far this week I have put two pairs of DD’s too-small leggings into the charity bag (had already bought the next size up, which are now in her chest of drawers), and a straw summer hat that doesn’t suit me has gone in the charity bag.

@stealthninjamum was only thinking yesterday that we hadnt heard from you in ages. Hope the summer holidays allows for a bit of decompressing/stress reduction for you all.

@MarthaMayWhovier welcome and good luck with your project. Pick somewhere and just start is my advice. These threads started off saying just one item a day but it is amazing how quickly those items add up without feeling like a huge pressure. If you have kids and are done with the big baby items then dealing with those can make a visible dofference really quickly. I really like the Dana K White books and recently reread them because i needed a decluterring enthusiasm boost 😂

Thanks.
I took 5 bin bags of books, toys and random household stuff to the charity shop. I also sold about 20 books to ziffit.
I've got 5 bin bags of baby clothes and 3 bin bags of toys waiting to go to charity shop this week.
I've lost a bit of motivation because the attic doesn't look any tidier. All that stuff out and it hasn't even made a dent in the mountains of junk. Sad

Does anybody know what to do with old car seats? We have one that was never used but the charity shop told us they can't take car seats.

Hempy · 27/07/2022 15:22

I brought our old car seats to the recycling centre. We had spares but the plastic gets weaker over time so we didn't pass them on. I'm currently decluttering the garage.

rhubarb84 · 27/07/2022 16:51

Hi, been a lurker here for a while but never posted before. I check in from time to time for motivation!

For car seats you could try the Olio app, I give away all sorts of random stuff on there.

LivingInaBuildingSite · 27/07/2022 17:05

Out an old kids bike out the front with a free sign on, and it’s gone. So that’s one more thing not to have to trip over in the shed, none of my kids like cycling.

282+1=283

soon the side extension should be ready to move the shed shelves into. Then we can empty the shed, hopefully get rid of a load of junk from in there, and more the stuff we’re keeping into the side extension.

then the old rotten shed can be demolished and skipped. One less big thing in the garden. But not yet, painters still working….

4 bags of baby clothes arranged for pickup on Olio
baby playpen was requested immediately but me or Olio made a boob and told the requester it's not available so I'm
anxiously waiting for reply and waiting not DS to get more bin bags from Tesco

good, she's been in touch, play pen being collected tomorrow pm or weekend

FallingLeavesAndGentleBreezes · 27/07/2022 21:07

Some messages about our buggy up for sale so hoping that will go this weekend

Too small but too tatty to be handed down raincoat and wellies gone but need to replace them for nursery so minimal out really

Unmusical baby xylophone out

Have decided to sell the building bricks. They are gorgeous but they just don’t use them. Duplo and now Lego are just preferred, apparently. Need to photograph and list them this weekend.

Random left over fridge veg turned into a stir fry!

seperatedmum · 28/07/2022 08:23

all these emptied yesterday, to clean and put back

dozens more boxes emptied, 4 separate bundles ready outside for Olio, 3 children out today so easier however the evening will make up for it 🙄 back from swim at 19:37 last night didn't sit down till 21:50 🫠 massive win** found two boxes of decent clothes- mine that I must've put them away after 3rd child but now coz running I can pick out some to keep, I'll probably keep 2 dresses, 1 skirt, 1 going out top, few pairs of shorts so that's a "free" holiday wardrobe there

seperatedmum · 28/07/2022 17:08

oh and my friend's mum will make me a blanket from baby clothes #keeningoutthethread

EllieQ · 29/07/2022 07:09

More decluttering this week - sorted through some of my clothes and put a pair of jeans and a top into the charity bag. Planning to go through my wardrobe this weekend if I have some free time.

stealthninjamum · 29/07/2022 12:49

Things are going well, I am giving away / selling some large items - loungers / childrens chairs as well as a few fiddly bits like laminating paper (my laminator broke a year ago) and dd1 wants her old school hoodie to be disposed of which makes me sad but it’s her choice.

Up to 2036 items for 2022. My goal is to do 3000 by the end of the summer.

Nordicmom · 29/07/2022 13:08

I seem to be at about 1750 this year but I’ve stalled …

Jellycatrabbit · 29/07/2022 14:23

Playpens go like hot cakes on the free sites round here!

7 candles out and two bags of bits to the charity shop. Some bits of rubbish thrown out and a few cupboards rearranged with nothing removed.

However also, two big bags of clothes in - next size up for ds and some girly bits for dd who will mostly wear ds hand me downs until she's old enough to grumble.

Need to go through more baby clothes and make the sell, keep for family, donate decisions. I find this a bit overwhelming.

seperatedmum · 29/07/2022 18:15

@Jellycatrabbit the playpen's got to be 20 years old! I bought it from a lady with at least 2 little ones one was at dance so that's probably a 3yo at least for my now 16yo. this is the fabric. but if someone's happy to take it then great

DD changed her mind about the board game of course but I will look through the game cupboards and something can go for sure !
DS had a bit of an accident with a leaky ink pen and as a result a few unexpected outs luckily had spares of ruined items and it didn’t go onto the carpet or a big blanket . Might be able to rescue a white throw pillow cover too since nearly all came off in the first wash with various stain removers but it wasn’t as bad as the items being thrown away to begin with .
Out recently :
-1 leaky biro
-1 stained rucksack
-1 stained raincoat
-1 stained old sweatshirt
-1 DS broken old school bag
-1 old lip gloss of mine I realised is ancient
-2 packets of old medicines
-1 cutting board
-1 pair of DD old trousers
-2 DD old T- shirts
-1 DD good as new wool dress to charity shop
-2 more face sheet masks used up from my Christmas present stash ,am trying to remember to do one a week
finding it really hard to get anything more done atm on this decluttering project , just the endless household jobs and admin are more than enough with kids on holidays although DS is doing a course and DD can entertain herself . I’m just exhausted and depressed feels like I’m in a deep hole . Missing seeing my family this summer didn’t help !

stealthninjamum · 30/07/2022 11:11

2042 items now as I have decluttered school swimming bags, swimming caps and costumes.

i also decluttered the car yesterday which is generally a dump. I didn’t do Flylady for long but in my head Friday is always the declutter the car day. I don’t add it to my total but it’s just a reminder to get rid of old car park tickets, sweet wrappers and coffee cups.

Transformatio · 30/07/2022 14:18

I've declutter a lot of items from the porch (store shoes/coats/bags etc there) and the master bedroom today/yesterday (mainly old toiletries etc).

Sadly, I have now can't sell/give things away on marketplace. Successfully gave away three items this week and sold one...listed four more yesterday (one to sell, two to sell for a very low amount to prevent too many messages, and one free). I've asked for a review...I'll be able to sell the higher value item on eBay but the rest will probably end up in landfill as they are electrical, so charity shops won't take them. Oh well.

seperatedmum · 30/07/2022 17:06

I'm loosing track oh and 1st in my age category at Parkrun this morning!🏆 I'm dropping off loads of 12m+ to a lady and I've got at least 2 bags for clothes recycling which were stored craply. the storage thing went last night. 1 bag of YR/Y1 uniform requested. found another which I hope will go. also found printers/keyboards/wires+++ and WEEE stuff which never should've gone up there, it's all part of the gaslighting and deflection; calling me a hoarder and that the house is full of 💩 when he was actually throwing rubbish up there knowing I couldn't physically go to up there he even told me there were 2 creepy toys which I don't see🤦🏽‍♀️ there's some actual builders rubbish and trousers which isn't from us 🤢 it'll be finished today I'm determined

Gassylady · 30/07/2022 18:12

@seperatedmum sounds like you are doing amazingly well with the decluttering and the park run too. Just having another scan of book and DVD shelves to see if i can make another box for one of the selling sites. Washing machine has been out of action but now fixed so there will be lots of uniform for fabric recycling or donation tomorrow.

seperatedmum · 30/07/2022 20:16

ah thanks @Gassylady the loft is Romeo done! I've got 3 more pickups and 1 drop off arranged. STBXH is doing a few tip runs time TBC. going to drive around clothes recycling bins now coz I want my very old not stealth boast 7 seater back

Eldest DD genuinely loves and listens to CDs so me finding Queen, Bob Marley, Jamiroquai, MOS etc is a dream for her

seperatedmum · 31/07/2022 07:40

by the way I did find one 'creepy?' toy just a bog standard teddy/bunny thing. children saw it so has a wash it looks like a 'scruff a luv' now unless the order one is still watching me? 😂

EllieQ · 31/07/2022 12:41

Two more bags of previously sorted clothes to the charity bank on Friday. It’s no coincidence that I’ve got a bit more decluttering done over the few days that DH and DD were away visiting PIL!

Had a very draining tantrum from DD this morning, which has prompted me to start a thread about it in Parenting. One of those things where you feel you've done something wrong for it to end up like this 😞
