Having a big clean of our temp kitchen as I’m fed up of the dust everywhere.

so far out:
2 x lidless plastic bowls
2 x old balloons

270+4=274

sure there will be more soon, just sat down to watch the start of the Grand Prix and there’s been a huge crash. 😞

yes I lost 10 years of my life yesterday 🏁 span upside down multiple times and rolled 2 1/2 times but Zhou and Albon ok! what a testament to the engineering 👏🏽 loved seeing Mika hakkinen and Nigel Mansell other legends on screen tho, Vettells becoming very chatty now too and his helmet the children designed 🎂 and Mick finally scoring a point? so yeah no decluttering for me yesterday 🤣

some of My fantasies came true this morning! a bloke knocked at the door offering to cut the front hedge I sort of said come round the back and see my overgrown bush! he gave me a quote which I couldn't afford, then told me what they could do for £100 and said go ahead! three professionals working with power tools getting the job done in second instead of me messing around with a hedge trimmer to no discernible effect which has been happening for years it was glorious I wanted to stand there drooling but I let them get on with it, only took a little while and now there's so much more light and I'm motivated not to mention 3 strangers seeing the house so it's an amazing start to the week! I'd definitely get them back when I've got more money to do more but it's a huge difference

Documents shredded. Woo.

and bag is on the floor next to my desk ready to go. Woooo.

am going to sell my “mulberry”. It’s a fake. But a nice fake. As in its genuine leather. And a nice bag. So should be able to get £50 for it.

WildBlueAndDitzy · 04/07/2022 12:23

Today's out:

  • a CD I don't like
  • two perfumed room sprays I received as a gift, which smell lovely but they've been sitting around for years and I never use them
  • a bag of bags from the kitchen
  • an old stinky bin from the kitchen
IncessantNameChanger · 04/07/2022 16:22

Nothing done today. It was tidy up or go to the gym and weirdly the gym was more appealing.

I need to look at ds swim shorts as he came mad that they no longer fit ( I did point out that they arent to small, hes too big!) He is a chunk

Nordicmom · 04/07/2022 22:44

a couple of more items out :
-another DD school calendar to recycling
-another pair of dd small school trainers
-5 pairs of DD old school socks
-1 pair of DS worn out trainers
-1 pair of dd small welly boots to shoe bank
-random tennis ball dd brought home from school to bin
been busy here again I’ll update later at least the hall coat/ shoe cupboard is now clean and tidy , just have to reorganise the under stairs that’s slid into chaos again . It needs another storage box for sports stuff and a shoe rack I’ve been asking for DH to put together from the attic …

seperatedmum · 05/07/2022 07:39

2 bags of rubbish/unrecycables out of my room yesterday, 1/2 a bag of fabric recycling, 1 mac, 1 bundle of scarves ready to be collected on olio, was on a roll see below ⬇️ but had to finally stop when younger 2 got out of the bath

Gassylady · 05/07/2022 08:20

Been missing in inaction again!🙄🤣 Just ticking over here some outgrown kids clothes and books to charity shop. Ongoing efforts to keep kitchen work surface free of junk showing some results. Need to start doing the areas like cupboards again.

seperatedmum · 05/07/2022 11:33

half a bin of unrecyclables gone from my room, about half a bags worth into fabric recycling, 2 bags outside for olio I'm still being charged someone said it's free? I've decided to keep some rough clothes/pyjamas for trips

ememem84 · 06/07/2022 06:55

Last night I binned three colouring books the dcs had finished. Also got rid of some play dough which had gone solid.

Giveronyoursausage · 06/07/2022 12:49

Hi everyone 1st time posting on the decluttering thread. I've started to get my arse into gear and finally start, so far 18 yes 18 bags of clothes and shoes taken to the local council charity and 14 bags of rubbish to the tip. My dp and dc are hoarders so still a bit to go.

Vinorosso74 · 06/07/2022 14:14

Welcome @Giveronyoursausage good work so far!
Gave the lounge a good clean this morning. Started a bag for charity shop: 2 books, 2 items of clothing and a mug which is an annoying size.
Dcat has a sore ear so vet visit this afternoon which has hindered my decluttering plans.

LivingInaBuildingSite · 06/07/2022 16:15

Hi @Giveronyoursausage and welcome.

im not doing very well at all, but have managed to move the tumble dryer out of my bedroom which inspired me to properly hoover everywhere and put lots of clean laundry away.
decided one top could go, have been strict in my clothes in the past so not much to do there really, it’s the rest of the house!

274+1=275

Zebracat · 06/07/2022 23:07

@LivingInaBuildingSite .you are doing so well under extreme conditions, to keep the chaos at bay. I haven’t got rid of much this week but I have consolidated my organisational changes, and kept those systems going, and I’m pleased with that, without a building site. I went out this evening, and tried on 2 outfits before settling on a third, but because they were so well organised, I put the rejects back even though I was short of time, it was so easy. I do have to decide If the rejects deserve a place in the wardrobe, but that is for another day.

Nordicmom · 07/07/2022 15:37

Out recently :
-DS old school shoes
-5 pairs of old school socks , 1 stained T-shirt and 1 stained pyjama top
-7 grubby dog toys
-1 small food container

Sexnotgender · 08/07/2022 09:15

Still on a mission… movers come in 3 weeks. DH & DS are away for the weekend so I’m going to spend my evenings packing and clearing. Hoping to get the majority done.

Nordicmom · 08/07/2022 10:15

@Sexnotgender you have my sympathies ! I moved 4 people plus the second time around also a dog twice in 2 y . I have many health problems so it was especially horrendous ! 9m in we are still sorting out our new house ;getting last bits of furniture, organising the attic and the garage ,and about to start landscaping our garden . I just want to be done one day .Good luck !

Sexnotgender · 08/07/2022 14:26

Thanks @Nordicmom its so stressful! I can’t wait to be finished.

Nordicmom · 08/07/2022 15:00

@Sexnotgender its pure hell ! Hope you’ll be happy in your new home ! We are it was just tiring process of many steps . first finding a rental house for while we’d be doing up our house a bit and selling it , then finding one to buy and then moving to that . Doing this during the beginning of the pandemic was not a good timing either but now we are loving our new house . We moved into it in last September when we also completed on the one we sold then we were done with our rental end of last nov and it all went ok just took time.

Vinorosso74 · 08/07/2022 17:04

Not as many outs as I'd hoped this week but have done tidying/cleaning and chucking stuff as I went along. Got rid of an item on Freecycle today without any fuss.

ememem84 · 09/07/2022 07:28

Storage boxes arrived so these were built and popped in the cupboard.

Thewolvesarerunningagain · 10/07/2022 18:52

Newbie to this thread, can I join? I’m decluttering ahead of a house move so looking for tips and inspiration to keep me on track. So far I’ve found a box of books for Ziffit and cleared out the boot room cupboards. I’m going to need to up my game as my house is a complete overwhelming mess!

WildBlueAndDitzy · 10/07/2022 18:57

This week's outs:

  • 21 DVD's
  • 3 babygrows and a vest
  • a stained towel
  • a pair of uncomfortable pyjama trousers
  • 4 books
WildBlueAndDitzy · 10/07/2022 20:30

Hello Wolves, I can identify with the overwhelming mess!

Another out: the very last of the random bag-of-bags from the kitchen.

Zebracat · 10/07/2022 23:30

We cleared the towering pile of books that don’t fit in the bookcase today. And the top of the bedroom chest of drawers. Numbers 3 and 6 on the list of worst things in the house. Number 1 is the garage. I’m working up to it.
Hello @Thewolvesarerunningagain . Lots of house moving on this thread. I’m not, but it has made me think. My house would take about a month to get ready for sale, if we could find someone to decorate the hall. I would like it to be 2 weeks at most, so that gives me something to aim at.
I think I am a bit scared that I have an affinity with chaos, so want to keep on top of it. I’ve made a lot of headway this year, mainly by writing lists, and by understanding that storage should be for the things we use now, not for random shit from the past that we have forgotten about. So todays pile was cleared by first looking at the other shelves and editing them, then separating the pile into categories, books to pass on, charity shop, junk that was mixed up, books not yet read etc. If we were actually moving, I would be more brutal, but my memory is that the brutality develops over time, as the deadline looms.
Most helpful for me has been the would you buy it now question. It has helped me shed a lot of stuff, but also to clean and maintain things I am keeping, and to store them beautifully. I am also losing my appetite for new things.
