I'm a bit muddled atm. Is this the thread where people try to declutter one item a day?

If it is, then I've decluttered outgrown children's socks that were a shade too tight for me. Kept some that are soft and comfy. It's great when you can fit into kids discarded clothes!

In Donation pile - eight pairs socks.
Rag bag - three odd socks.

Seven or eight sheets of scribbles from tidying living-room.

LivingInaBuildingSite · 19/05/2022 18:55

I think we started with one item a day minimum but basically we all just do what we can when we can.

out today
5 part used birthday candles
DD’s old ballet shoes (although I did buy her new ones so not sure that counts really)

223+6=229

i have also rediscovered my To Do list notebook and added some jobs on there, as well as done some of the old jobs.

Myleakycauldron · 19/05/2022 19:59

I feel I just keep coming back on here with the promise to do better! Just been so busy with work and children by the time the evening rolls around I just want to eat and slee

I got rid of a high chair yesterday and a leftover Christmas pudding(!) today. I need to go back to setting a timer and working through an area/shelf in that time.

Nordicmom · 19/05/2022 20:49

I didn’t do much more decluttering yesterday after I went through the kids art boxes the night before but the Lego boxes were collected a day early and I threw away DD old trainers which were destroyed in muddy activities on the school trip , also possibly going is the bag she took with her that someone’s dragged along the ground so it now has a hole on the bottom . Will have to see which clothes she had with her won’t come clean to decide which ones I’ll throw away . Got some more admin done and have finally figured out the garden style we’d like for our landscaper . We’ll send him pictures for inspiration tonight and he can then hopefully come up with a few designs . Today I actually took some time off (although did the garden research in the morning and the school pickup ) and went out for a really good lunch with DH and then had my hand and feet done ,now they’re looking and feeling nice again . Now absolutely shattered due to not much sleep so will be going to bed earlier than normal luckily DH is working from home tomorrow so will do school runs . My plan this weekend / tomorrow if I can be bothered is to change our winter duvets to summer ones and send the winter ones to washed , wash the sofa cover piece DD and dog have gotten dirty and empty the dining room except for the elliptical before Mil comes next thu pre her and DS trip on halfterm . I do need to still get him a few things ideally but not tonight I just want to sleep . Yesterday I fell asleep on sofa before dd came back from school trip . Also always endless housework cleaning laundry ( a mountain is waiting for folding in the weekend ) and admin ( need to finish those school registrations for one ) and we really got to put a move on with booking holidays or we won’t have any !!!
Hopefully I can face more boxes tomorrow ! 4 more left in the dining room , there is light in the end of the tunnel …

WildBlueAndDitzy · 19/05/2022 22:16

Today's out: a vest and babygrow.

londonmummy1966 · 19/05/2022 22:41

One more ebay sale today.

I feel I'm losing my decluttering mojo a bit at the moment - I need to get it back just not sure how!

3 old toys gifted and collected today. I'm hoping this weekend the house can start getting back to normal, as the bathroom works are complete. I'm going to have a good declutter of the things before they go back in there! I bulk buy Shampoo and conditioner now and am thinking of getting some nice refillable bottles for them instead of the squished old product bottles we are refilling at the moment.

I think we have all been there! Sometimes just getting the basics done is a win.

Gassylady · 20/05/2022 08:07

@Myleakycauldron at least it’s still on your radar enough to be thinking about which is a good thing. I reread the Dana White books recently to give myself a boost, then have identified two cupboards that need a re declutter one of which i will tackle this weekend.

Myleakycauldron · 20/05/2022 09:35

How many towels do you have / need? I feel they are multiplying! I am going to tackle the various areas they are collecting today

TeacupDrama · 20/05/2022 11:15

@Myleakycauldron
how many in your family?
1 have 1 bath sheet the large ones that completely wrap round you, 2 hand towel and 2 flannels per person, plus 2 extra sets for guests or if the normal towels don't dry in same day to be used again, 4 extra hand towels for laundry and kitchen 7 washable dishclothes and 7 floor clothes and 4 tea towels 2 out at a time ( there is a new set of bath towels in storage very nice gift set keeping until one of current set wear out)

londonmummy1966 · 20/05/2022 23:23

@Myleakycauldron I tend to work on the basis that there are somethings you need loads of (and need good storage for) and towels are one of them. DC have 2 bath towels 2 hand towels and 4 flannels each, DH and I have a large basket of a dozen bath towels a dozen flannels and 6 hand towels between us. There are a further 12 flannels used as hand towels in the downstairs loo and 8 large swimming towels. Its a lot but at least we'll never run out and we do have decent storage for all of them.

Todays outs - 4 things that haven't sold on ebay/VInted for ages went to the charity shop and 2 parcels of eaby sales ready to go tomorrow. Annoyingly I sold a necklace on ebay and the buyer has come back saying some of the stones are missing - despite it being intact when I packed it. I'll refund as I cba the hassle but feel rather scammed.😡

I would agree with @londonmummy1966 about towels

Myleakycauldron · 21/05/2022 12:28

Thanks all - it would appear that it's not that we have too many towels - it's just the storage and system of reusing them that's the problem. They either end up all over the house or somewhere inconvenient where they are never touched and somehow start turning yellow!

Happy weekend decluttering!

londonmummy1966 · 21/05/2022 15:27

@Myleakycauldron - you could always dye towels that are turning off white.

Haven't got rid of anything today but did buy some denim to recover a couple of floorcubes in the sitting room. I then had a small moment of inspiration as the fabric needs preshrinking and took it to the dry cleaners who can wash it and then put it through the ironing roller they use for sheets. Less work here but it is going to cost me as much to recover as to buy new ones - just less waste so better for the planet.

I'm definitely going to count this; went back into the garden because the children were out there climbed on the shed cut back loads more! so much light condensed cuttings into a few bags which find out what to do with coz brown bin is full. so three bags full lol and loads of light in. need to pace myself coz I've got a ' challenging' 10k tomorrow

LivingDeadGirlUK · 22/05/2022 16:48

Some misc crockery, 2 pairs of shoes and a backpack gone today. Its cleared a spot on my garage shelves to help with the organising in there :)

WildBlueAndDitzy · 22/05/2022 16:58

Outs:

Vest, cardigan, hat, leggings - baby clothes
Dress, jeans, coat - adult clothes
Broken kettle
Cardboard boxes I'd been keeping "just in case"

WildBlueAndDitzy · 22/05/2022 17:04

London Mummy I'd let her open a PayPal account if you have pics of the necklace intact and packaged well. Chances are she's damage it herself or already had a broken one which she's now saying is the one you sent. Worse that happens is you lose and you might win if you have pics.

Leaky Tips for dying discolored towels: boil wash with a cheap yellow duster. End result - pale yellow new looking towels.

Hope the 10k went well today separated

WildBlueAndDitzy · 22/05/2022 17:18

*PayPal dispute that should say

Another out: trainers which have started to split

Myleakycauldron · 22/05/2022 19:36

Out today (well in the textiles recycling ready to go): baby socks, mainly odd!

Nordicmom · 22/05/2022 23:08

I’ve been unwell in the weekend but luckily DH has been a star once again . He did the lawns where mushrooms have been sprouting up again , deep vacuumed top floor in preparation for his mom coming next week and organised in the attic a lot so now there is a decent amount of floorspace and one end of the attic room only has the foosball table and my storage cupboard then the other has the already organised labelled boxes ( although I’ll be restocking them after I’m done with decluttering ) and another area has what I’ll need to go through . He’s also been clearing out the garage which is looking much emptier just waiting for the shed for the bikes and mowers now that we hopefully have a landscaper, and for the motorcycle to be sold . His panniers are now at a really good price so I’m hoping we’ll get rid of them on this go after last sale was cancelled . He took kids to hobbies and out cycling etc . Did the food shop , a few errands and took a load to dump of garden waste ,boxes and bags to the rag bank that wasn’t open last weekend . I folded 6 baskets of laundry again and added a small sack to ragbank from it and today threw out two old towels too . Also going are a couple of more shattered storage boxes to dump next time and others we don’t want to keep I’ll try on Olio since Lego and books went right away , we will look through them tonight since we’ve now emptied the dining room except for the elliptical we will list too and the panniers going out soon hopefully . Putting the 4 more boxes left to look through still plus the two new ones I’ve been putting each kids school stuff into already into the attic to be sorted out later since now am busy getting DS packed for his trip etc . The dining chairs can finally go into the dining room from in front of the fire place . Been doing online shopping for bits and pieces people need and more admin as usual .we are sending our ideas to the landscaper tonight so he can then hopefully send us a couple of design plans . Need to contact the developer about some maintenance , the aircon company to book a maintenance visit as well mine has been dripping several times and book a few things for my birthday and self care appointments im trying to do something for myself too . Nearly got all school registrations done just one to go .
i decluttered a pile of newspapers , some toiletries I’ve used up and DH the whole box of sailing paraphernalia from the storage locker . We are doing well at this but it seems so never ending . I’m just so tired always and I’m pain the thought of the garden works , the painters in the house fixing things for a few days in the summer etc seem like big deals and wed like to book some holidays too after not travelling for the last few years but that too feels like another job not a fun thing since I’m not well . Sorry to complain but I’ve been getting nauseous last few days it means my adrenals are struggling because if my illness and too much going on . Just trying to take a shower now is an ordeal . Just took more meds so hopefully soon I’ll feel better . I have to say I’m happy I’m hindsight we didn’t have a third child I don’t know how we’d manage it with my health problems and DH job …

Nordicmom · 22/05/2022 23:16

And we got the 2 first winter duvets sent off to laundry with an app I use for dry cleaning already so I’m praying they’ll come back all nice and clean on Tuesday and I’ll then send the remaining two . I’ve also asked for DH to strip off the sofa cover DD put chocolate on and the dog mud right away so we can wash it . Hopefully my miraculous stain remover will work wonders again as it has on several Items recently . Didn’t need to throw away any of the muddy clothes from the school trip except some socks( and those trainers ) they all came clean thankfully .

londonmummy1966 · 22/05/2022 23:45

@seperatedmum hope the 10k went well wasn't hampton court was it? I ducked out of that as I had an invite to a birthday party yesterday where you could guarantee champagne on tap all night so a 7am start to get to the run wasn't on the cards this morning....

I took my new running shoes out today and they are really great so I will put the oldest pair in the textile bank tomorrow when I pass it.

@WildBlueAndDitzy I know I should but I've just refunded as that means she can't bugger up my positive feedback as I have a few high ticket items on at the moment.
