How often do you change your sheets?

Just curious? I try to do them once a week but sometimes I don't get round to it and its 10 days before I change them.

I probably change the bottom sheet weekly, and the duvet cover and pillowcases every fortnight.

CatKittyCatCatKittyCatCat · 06/10/2021 00:51

Once a fortnight

Ffs2020 · 06/10/2021 01:05

Every other week, but not every bed at the same time. It's more like 2 beds get changed one week, and 2 beds get changed the next.

itsutterlyshit · 06/10/2021 01:14

I aim for weekly and stick to it as much as our shift work allow.
It usually ends up being between 6/10 days.

loafcake · 06/10/2021 01:16

@vajingleberry

I make the bed with at least 7 bottom sheets, duvet covers and pillowcases then strip them off one by one every two hours and boil wash them.
😂😂 that tickled me
LavenderAskew · 06/10/2021 01:23

@TinaYouFatLard

There used to be a poster who was alerted to these threads as she changed the bed daily!
Did she also wasf the actual duvet and pillows weekly?

I recall one poster declaring that!

starfishmummy · 06/10/2021 01:26

I try to do them once a year to coincide with my annual bath but, but sometimes it will be longer.

Medievalist · 06/10/2021 01:32

Every few weeks or when the dog hair starts to get annoying.

FluffyWhiteBird · 06/10/2021 01:43

Weekly. I don't like bedding (or clothes) that smell of people. I like them smelling of washing powder. So clothes after they've been worn all day and pyjamas changed nightly too. Mattress protector usually each season, maybe more often if I can't remember doing it yet. It's there as a comfort layer thing for softness, it doesn't get dirty or smell, probably because there's a sheet between me and it.

Kanaloa · 06/10/2021 02:10

Weekly, on a Sunday morning. I like getting in a fresh bed on a Sunday night for getting up on a Monday morning! Undercuts the Monday blues.

I wonder how often sheets were washed in Victorian times - pre washing machine availibility - I would be genuinely interested in the answer if anyone knows!

As for here - we are a slovenly every 2 to 4 weeks - and not really caring too deeply about that.

Workinghardeveryday · 06/10/2021 07:12

Didn’t they put arsenic on them too......

Alwayscheerful · 06/10/2021 07:14

Once a week in winter.
Twice a week in summer .
I Would have fresh sheets every day if I won the lotterySmile

rookiemere · 06/10/2021 07:15

Mattress protector every month. Sure it's got the sheet on top but feel it needs it that frequently.

Hate stuff smelling of washing powder - makes me feel like it's not been rinsed properly.

daytripper28 · 06/10/2021 12:37

@Medievalist

Hehe - try ash lye - just been reading about washing in olden times.

It sounded so much harden then - they'd do a 'big wash' in the spring.

daytripper28 · 06/10/2021 12:37

*harder

I presume for the wealthy they could still have them done quite often, they would just have plenty of sheets and plenty of servants to scrub them.

Then for the poorer people I imagine much less because they wouldn’t have the resources or the time.

Kanaloa · 06/10/2021 17:38

Not Victorian times but in Downton they seem to change sheets very often so they can stand around faffing with sheets and having a gossip.

to be fair they didn't, their servants did. And quite frankly, if I had a team of servants who did the work my sheets would be changed more often!!

Sadly I just have to rely on DH's schedule (and sometimes I have to do it if he's a slack ass - which is quite frankly disgraceful)

Biscoffee · 07/10/2021 17:33

During menopause it was daily because getting into a beautiful bed with smooth fresh sheets was a great end to the day but nowadays it’s every 4th morning just because I like it that way.

Smartiepants79 · 07/10/2021 17:40

Every 2-3 weeks. Basically when I look at them and think. Hhhm could do with a wash.
They never smell or look ‘dirty’.

Theoldwoman · 09/10/2021 10:43

So how often do you change your bath towels then?

beingsunny · 09/10/2021 10:45

Eek, one a fortnight Hmm

I should do it more often but I'm lazy
