How do you wash the cloth you clean the loo with?

I clean the seat and rim with a cloth. But then what do you do with that? It feels wrong to chuck it in with tea towels but then washing it on its own also feels wasteful. I don’t really want to use disposables as I’m trying to cut down on single use items. What’s the answer?

Women are own own worst enemies, can you honestly imagine a thread written by men discussing how to clean the toilet?
I enjoy talking about this stuff! I think a lot of men would too!!

I don't like the idea of it going into my washing machine with tea towels etc but then I'm wondering whether putting underwear in is the same thing.

It is, and everything will come out clean and absolutely fine, I chuck everything in on a hot wash and it’s never occurred to me until reading on here that’s not what everyone would do Smile

I have a toilet brush like the one pictured here, they're not hard to clean? Are you telling me that if someone came and left an 'interesting poo' in the toilet that you'd clean it off with your hands? Even with gloves that's disgusting
I give it a quick swish to get off excess crap, I don't leave my hand in for ages or anything and it'snot like it happens often! Plus after years of renting in a house with really bad plumbing and waste disposal, it's nothing, PLUS my ex was a plumber, and very hygienic!!! just scrub hands after then repeat! As for the brush how do you know it's clean? Toilet brushes just seem like the worst design ever! It probably is just me but I'll never understand leaving something that was down your toilet next to it and most peopleI know seem to have had the same one in their toilet forever!

Try the toilet test. Get a clean cloth or piece of loo paper and run it around under the rim of the toilet.

All sorts of muck can lurk there.

Come and confess how much muck you have!

MaMelon · 31/08/2021 22:19

Unless you’re planning on sucking your toilet brush so what if there are minute particles of poo on it? Hopefully everyone in your family knows to scrub the marks and then hold it under the flush to rinse off any remaining bits before putting it back it its holder. Then give it a squirt of bleach over the loo a couple of times a week and hey presto.

But the thing is - I don’t care. Am I awful for that? I don’t know. But I just don’t care. It gets cleaned as best as I can without putting scuba gear on.

How bad is the toilet if you want to throw the cloth out!! Maybe I’m just not that worried about it. I do what’s needed but I don’t feel the need to clean under the rim of my bog.

MrsPerfect12 · 31/08/2021 22:42

I'm so surprised that the loo brush in the dishwasher hasn't been mention yet! 🤣🤣🤣

@lilmishap I hope my kids don't do this 🙈😂😂😂

MolyHolyGuacamole · 01/09/2021 06:51

As for the brush how do you know it's clean?

Boiling hot water and disinfectant. Which you can't do to your hand.

lannistunut · 01/09/2021 07:01

I use an old rag, and then do throw it away. I cut up holey socks etc and just use a small piece of that.

Definitely couldn't put in the machine with tea towels!

My DH would def contribute to this thread if he was on here!

@Rubyflint

Cloths in bleach or disinfectant after use. Line dry or store behind the loo until next time. Replace when required.
Me too. It’s never occurred to me to put the cloth I clean the loo with in the washing machine.

@JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn

Yes I put my hand in the toilet - with rubber gloves on. I clean the toilet with a cloth, above and below the water line, shock horror, and then put it in the washing machine, which gets everything clean. I don't have a toilet brush as I can't put that in my washing machine. Only on MN do people fret about stuff like this. No one has been ill or died in this house after 25 years of cleaning toilets this way.
Yep, same here. I've had more (accidental!) poop hand from picking up the dog poo then cleaning the toilet Grin.
shouldistop · 01/09/2021 15:33

In the machine on a hot wash with other cloths, towels etc. and dettol laundry detergent in the wash.

I don't stick my hand down the toilet though Envy not envy. I just put bleach down. We have soft water here though so no limescale issues.

shouldistop · 01/09/2021 15:38

@Phantom1 last time I checked no one ate out of their toilet. Is it not pretty universally accepted that toilets aren't massively hygienic given what we do in them?

Streamingbannersofdawn · 01/09/2021 15:43

I wash all cloths and towels at 90, one big wash.

I also commit the apparently cardinal sin of using a toilet brush.

We are all in good health so apparently all is fine.

Twospaniels · 01/09/2021 16:24

I wait til I’ve got a few cloths, tea towels and hand towels and put them on a rinse cycle. Then I add them to a towel or sheet wash at 60deg.
