Has anyone found an electric fan that does not end up vibrating and making weird noises?

Nearly every year I end up buying new ones and it is such a waste. Fine when I buy them and they last maybe 2-3 months snd then end up vibrating really loudly or making that annoying squeak on rotate!! I do clean them out so there is no dust build up so I don’t understand what is wrong with them all?! I’m not looking for a Silent fan as the white noise is fine, I just want one that will last without becoming annoying!!

Tia

We can see this thread is a few years old so some of the suggestions may be out of stock, but we’ve recently updated our best tower fan and best pedestal fan pages if you’re looking for a quiet gadget to beat the heat this summer. We hope they help.

Are you tightening screws/blades when you clean it out?

I bought one of these last year for next to my bed and it's much better than I expected, and quieter than my much more expensive Bionaire fan.

Yes the only screw that comes off is the weeny one that keeps the outside cage bit of the fan together? I have tried cheap and expensive (not the dyson one as that is mega £ and I need 3!) @ViperAtTheGatesOfDawn That doesn’t look like it kicks out much? There is no space right next to any of the beds, tabletops are across the room so needs to be quite powerful to feel it. I can’t put in ceiling fans either as I rent .

When you take the cage off you should be able to tighten the blade fixing. I can't remember exactly how but I have done it on several fans.

I can feel a comfortable breeze from about 4ft away on my linked fan at its lowest setting.

Meaco fans are quiet!

Gaaaahhhhhhhh · 02/06/2021 22:23

The Meaco fan is brilliant. Works really well and only noisy on the highest settings (which are like a wind tunnel).

randomkey123 · 02/06/2021 22:27

I bought a Dyson fan for this very reason. We use one all year round as DH has got restless legs and it stops me from hearing the bedding rustle all night (I've got sensitive hearing). It just makes this lovely whooshing sound and it was worth every penny for the sleep I've had since we had it.
Have you tried a tower fan? We had one in a holiday cottage a few years ago and that was fairly silent.

OnTheSeaShore · 02/06/2021 22:38

Lovely stand up Dimplex fan. We have got 3 and they're fab. Quiet and you don't get the vibrating noise of traditional rotating fans.

CakeIsMyFavouriteAndBest · 02/06/2021 22:44

We got meacos too, and they are the most affordable quiet ones we could find. Love it.

SIHastingsLiketheBattle · 02/06/2021 22:44

We have three tower fans, one was a digital fancy one from Amazon but the other two were pretty cheap (£20ish?) From home bargains and aldi. We've used them on every warm night for the last 5-6 years (one in each bedroom) and haven't had any of the issues you've mentioned. They're not quiet but I find the noise helps me (&the kids!) sleep

moonbedazzled · 02/06/2021 22:46

I have several Daewoo fans. I get hot! Never had any problems with them. They're a bit noisy pushing the air through but you don't hear it after a while. No squeaks or vibrations. But wait, I'm meant to disassemble them and clean them!! I just thought the air rushing through would clean them. No? I can't be adding that malarkey to everything else I do. (Presently lying on bed, eating chocolate and reading diet threads.)

Hohofortherobbers · 02/06/2021 22:52

Don't you find the repetitive squeak quite calming? I get used to it and would miss it if it wasn't there

Loserinlove · 03/06/2021 06:13

@moonbedazzled I only clean they as I leave them out in winter When not in use and gather a disgusting amount of dust!

Ok so none of the recommendations are desk fans.... interesting...all mine are/have been. Looks like I need to try one of these.

Just to make clear I’m not looking for a quiet fan, I like the noise, it’s one that doesn’t start rattling and squeaking before summer has ended! They get abused as kids have them on half the year all night and day’

I have a honeywell one that is very quiet.
it doesn't turn though.

purplesequins · 03/06/2021 06:23

it's a desk one.
most effective is it under the desk though, blowing at you feet covered with a damp muslin or flannel.

I have a dyson cool me, very quiet.

Billandben444 · 03/06/2021 07:01

I have a Probreeze tower and it's brilliant with no squeaking. It has a remote control with 3 speeds and an oscillate and timer option. It's about a metre from the end corner of the bed and does the job brilliantly

CupoTeap · 03/06/2021 07:15

I've got on of these Honeywell HY254E QuietSet Tower Fan from Amazon and love it

MattDamon · 05/06/2021 11:59

I'm the same, OP. Every fan I've ever bought has eventually made noise. Drives me mad. I swear the older brands never used to.

I bought this one recently and so far, so good: www.argos.co.uk/product/8809612

That Meaco one look fab, too. I've bookedmarked and will try it next if the Dimplex one goes tits up!

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 05/06/2021 12:10

Dyson ones are worth the extra expense imo, we have 2 and they don't get rattlely and are easy to dust, you can sometimes get them on the Dyson outlet on eBay a bit cheaper

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 05/06/2021 12:14

Sorry just seen you want 3 and not Dyson, I would probably get a tower fan as they haven't got the large blades so less to go wrong

I bought this last year and it got a lot of use over the summer. It doesn't rotate but it's very powerful and no weird noises yet. 😆

ithoughtisawapuddycat · 05/06/2021 12:36

I accidentally bought an industrial fan from amazon and we've had it three years now and it's brilliant. We have it on every night of the year as we need the white noise and I like to be cold in bed. Worth every penny.

Loserinlove · 05/06/2021 13:34

@ithoughtisawapuddycat what do you mean by an industrial fan?

I love the idea of dyson but just too much money and I need 3. Ok so I never have had a tower fan so that also needs a looking into.... plus ones that don’t rotate... yes can also see how that makes sense ...
