Fledglings are Flying into April, there's no fooling us.......

Welcome fledglings old and new, to April's Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here Flying Lessons. Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

KCC - we don't do so many of these now, but these are little stories, photos, memes, off-topic questions, just to keep us all distracted from the general tedium of lockdown life. Feel free to chip in.

Thanks to Up for guiding us gently through March Flowers.

And off we go into April.

Just had an idea.... what about a paw patrol iron on transfer? @Dancingtomusic. There are quite few different places online.

Redsquirrel5 · 19/04/2021 18:28

Sing Goddard’s liquid silver polish you can pick it up in large supermarkets. If only a quick polish you can buy a cloth which I think is also Goddard’s and not as messy. Otherwise old, soft cloth ( or old, cotton knickers) one to put on one to polish off. Toothbrush for nooks and crannies( candlesticks in our house) get them clean. Reminds me I must polish my dad’s old swimming- diving cup.
Didn’t she do well, amazing!
Could you share mornings until you get into a routine? How many days a week does she go now?
Game looks interesting I have never seen that before.

Ed I bought some of that flour but haven’t got around to using it yet. Last bread attempt was awful. Didn’t rise I wondered if the yeast was old as it was decanted into a jar. Long list makes me tired looking at it.

Dancing great you got it finished. I went for an interview after 22yearsi broke into tears because now it is all on line applications but it just lost most of what I had written when I reread for corrections. I didn’t get the job either which was upsetting and I wouldn’t be in this position now as I would have left the school I was at 2weeks new start. I was offered to apply for a linked school for nearly half the hours but it was that day. HT rang me up. I was still sore from not getting the first one. Could kick myself now. I may contact him in the future. Not sure whether to stay retired or not. No money and my savings are going down. Also been sending my sister some. So moral if you don’t get it try for something else or do some voluntary to get some confidence back. I do think charity shops offer a lot of skills. I was going to volunteer at our nearest one but it has closed. The others are awkward for parking or back in school area. DH seems quite happy for me to be home. He makes the occasional dig about me not paying for things but when I say I l’ll pay for that in front of shop assistant of course...macho pride?

Just jump back in sorry to hear you had a tummy bug Ships There was a lot to catch up on just from Sunday Monday😂

Zoo crikey what a list.

Waders just been saying to DH I might get a fake plant for the top of bookshelves in hall. Mainly to disguise the fact that he chopped off too much on top. 🤫I daren’t say anything I thought he was going to take about 5cm off.😳

Ta da

S&S
Re organised all the small bookcase. Put top two shelves with my books on. Third shelf DDs. Fourth books that don’t fit and bottom shelf has a tin and some probably charity books or maybe for church. Plan is for me to read through when I have finished present series. Then send to charity shop or Little Free Library.

Been under the bed. Oh my never going to that on my own again. Took a lot of energy. I took Persian carpet out first then slid the boxes underneath out, cleaned, vacuumed and back again x8.
Cleaned skirting.
Moved bedside cabinet and cleaned back and front plus top. Wiped everything on there.
Sorted meds into their two week box.
Stripped bed
Made bed.

Need to rearrange A4 box x3 and two vanity bags one mine one aunts.

I did have an hour reading after lunch outside. I am going back to my hour a day reading during the day. It was quite funny because DH came back and we made lunch. Then I got my book and he had no one to converse with. It is usually the other way around so I think it was a good lesson for him. I did answer if he spoke though had to have it repeated sometimes. Don’t think he liked it 🤣😆

Hazel missing you hope you are not buried under packing boxes, hope it is going well.

Happy Monday.🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋

SingToTheSky · 19/04/2021 19:00

Thanks I’ll check that out for the silver!

Iron on transfer is a genius idea for the paw patrol tops - those are generally pretty cheap on eBay, as are plain t-shirts!

I’ve not had a productive evening at all, just enjoyed playing with Cagletini and catching up on LOD threads. DD1 got herself to a dance class and back and had a shower when she got in. DH took DS to tae kwon do so I’ve given Cagletini dinner.

HillsBesideTheSea · 19/04/2021 20:14

Sing be careful a lot of modern trophies are silver colour coated and will not react kindly to the application of the silver polish. I would be careful in your cleaning.

ta da
did not kill anyone
fed people

Yay look at that! I win!

yes it has been a long day, no i don't feel great, yes i am starting to lose the plot

Dancingtomusic · 19/04/2021 20:21

Sing- where you playing shops with your dd? Its my favorite game.

Red- I am so sorry to hear that you lost your online application and it upset you so much. I think when you are ready and if you do decide to go back, it maybe good to contact the headteacher you met. Thays if you decide to go back.
You did loads getting under the bed!
I like your hour to read- it good you did it straight after lunch. I must do this as I am forgetting to pick up a book.

Mc hope you and Mctiny are ok? Foxes hope you are ok too and new kitchen is getting there.
🍒👋waders, zoo, hazel, double, hills, hope, SC, tidy, merry and anyone else i have forgotton.

SingToTheSky · 19/04/2021 20:28

Thanks hills I believe they did say to DH specifically about silver polish but I will def check!

Dancing nope I made some price labels today but we just did a jigsaw and she did some building with the game pieces I photographed earlier.

Ugh I feel crap. Sick of stupid palpitations now. 🤬

IWasWantingThoseGreatWaders · 19/04/2021 20:57

Fledglings are Flying into April, there's no fooling us.......
HillsBesideTheSea · 19/04/2021 21:49

We forgot the fucking lateral flow test that was supposed to be done before I got in from work today, ready for tomorrows return to school. FFS!

Guess i am going to have to get the teen to do it first first thing and then pick up the pieces from there.
Arsing hell, bastarding things.

disclaimer - yes i do think they are worth while, but dammit I want a proper grown up who can remember and action these things for me! I have too many plates and my schedules makes most people question how.

SingToTheSky · 19/04/2021 22:15

Argh hills 😖 I quite understand, the addition of yet another damn plate to spin. As if the mental load of life isn’t enough already!

Thanks red btw Cagletini goes to nursery all five mornings. I was happily doing all morning runs before I got my shielding letter, then I thought I’d decide for a few days how closely to follow it. Then had the jab (feb 27th) and the fall out from that seemed to segue nicely into a flare up Hmm. Still if I can just work on getting her up, in a routine and ready in a less stressful manner then it’ll still be contributing something.

Redsquirrel5 · 19/04/2021 22:46

Dancing 50% was frustration about not being comparable with ICT. It was before the youknow day. Some days I would like to be back at work today was not one of those days I sat in the garden with DH and lunch bacon, turkey and tomato s’wich, mayonnaise egg and crisps. Then my book and it got quite hot out there so I said to DH what would make it perfect would be a beer. He trotted off and brought back a glass and a bottle of beer 🍻 lager from Prague.

I am half way through boudoir. I so want this house back into a manageable manner. Things to go into right rooms after the past year of chaos with builders, plumber, painter, joiner! I am actually feeling that I could decluttering some stuff, small steps. I threw out some paper and other rubbish today. Vacuumed the dust 🐰 so less already 🤣

Redsquirrel5 · 19/04/2021 22:53

Sing definitely contribute and a calm atmosphere hopefully helps her. I can remember going to find DD to put her in the car only to find she had changed all her clothes from what I had dress her in. She was 18 mths. That’s when I realised she was going to be trouble. I hadn’t experienced that with three boys. Some choice of tshirt as they got older and wanted football T-shirt’s at least they wash and dry quickly.
DD still has her own sense of style and sometimes I sneak a photo and think she could be in a magazine Country Living not Hello.😂

Mc3209 · 20/04/2021 01:08

I fell off the thread a bit, apologies. I have been flying though, but not keeping up with the missions.

It has been a bit busy settling into new routines here. Transitioned McTiny into a cot (as opposed to Next2me crib) and started weaning 😬 Just coming to grips with what and how much to feed him. So far so good (famous last words).
He also started flipping onto his belly when sleeping, and whilst I know it is OK to let them sleep like that if they get into it themselves, it still stresses me. I keep checking he is breathing.

HazelNuttyElf · 20/04/2021 02:41

mc I'm sure mctiny is ok, but it's normal to worry. It does take some adjusting when switching schedules, and just when you think you have it figured out, the change it again 🤦‍♀️
hills I hope you're able to get your DS sorted in the morning with his test. Really it shouldn't just fall to you to be on top of things, it seems no matter how hard we try, that's hope it ends up.
Red you have had a busy year with lots going on in your house. One day soon you'll look around and realised you have accomplished what you have been working on this whole time (I hope that makes sense).

Here I have been getting more things packed up from the shed. There must be a lot of mice coming in from next door. It's frustrating. Last night DH set up 2 traps, tonight he emptied both traps, and he said it looks like the other mice were eating on them 😳

I'll try to be back later 🍒👋 for now

HillsBesideTheSea · 20/04/2021 07:50

ta da
make ds bacon sandwich
find him a towel and tell him where to find uniform
run him bath
discuss the test - he refuses constent to it Hmm
have breakfast
check emails
piss about on the internet
try to remember to remind him to be home sharpish as medical appointment at 4pm
remember was supposed to email school about exam timetable and covid jab scheduling issues. No idea which of the 50 billion emails would be the appropriate one - will ring school instead for if nothing else confirmation of email address
wish my coffee cup was bigger.
ignore the state of the house
wonder where in hell I am going to find the time to dye and cut my hair today
get the first load of washing on
wonder who the hell is hoarding all the plates because there is non in the cupboard and non by the sink waiting to go in the dishwasher Hmm
Remove go for long walk from the to do list Sad

Productive morning i do believe. Maybe another coffee is required before I delve deep into the online study resources.

HillsBesideTheSea · 20/04/2021 07:52

hazel Shock at the mice situation.
unfortunately it is just me looking after 2 elderly parents and 1 SN kid so it will always fall to me. And my memory and ability to juggle things into an appropriately busy but not too busy schedule is shit to be quite frank. I always convince myself i will be able to do all the things. individually yes, but not all together Hmm

HillsBesideTheSea · 20/04/2021 07:54

Dancing sometimes we have to take the small wins Grin

draw a line and move on to the next day

SingToTheSky · 20/04/2021 08:58

Morning!

This morning was a bit more difficult with Cagletini being a bit of a madam at times. We weren’t really on the ball with her bedtime routine last night so she was late to sleep - back to reality has been tricky with both Caglets having clubs to go to in the evening! I also really need to get motivated again to not eat rubbish before bed as I’m sure it contributes to feeling sluggish in the mornings.

PO3.1
1️⃣LOL
2️⃣get DS off his phone (I remembered I meant to change limits for weekdays so he can’t go on it until he’s done some work - will do that later) and learning something
3️⃣meds/water/teeth/shower/hair once DH is back to supervise DS

Dancingtomusic · 20/04/2021 09:08

Hills- 😁
I hate dying my hair and not sure what to do. I do like cutting my hair. 2 weeks ago...i Grabbed it into a very low ponytail and took off a inch...whoops.... (It was supposed to be a tiny trim.) I now an sporting a bob...long at front and slightly shorter at the back....🤣 i dont bloody care. I like it.

SiNG- Goodluck for today! Just be yourself and your presentation will flows.
Any hiccups...they are normal...acknowlege anything like a spelling mistake...wrong word...and just have a giggle about it.....Oooops...sorry and carry on.
I have found its better to keep going as the auidence prefer it...and sometimes makes them feel...its ok...she is one of us....

Hope the waffle above helps. You will be great at this!

🍒👋tuesday mornings!

SingToTheSky · 20/04/2021 09:21

Thanks dancing 💐 I feel a bit better as I’ve put a wash on and DS is on ringfit for his exercise (so I don’t need to think about grammar, maths or physics just yet 😂 hurrah) must get my meds and then I can actually engage in self care 🙄

Massive mugs of strong coffee for everyone.
Sing good luck for the presentation! You will ace it.
Hazel That's a lot of mice. Sounds grim them eating each other.. Hope you manage to get on top of it somehow.

Question. Will food colouring mixed in with yoghurt stain my white bathtub?

Mc3209 · 20/04/2021 10:30

Zoo sending strength. Today can only improve, right?

SingToTheSky · 20/04/2021 10:33

Self care was basic - shower/hair wash/teeth although I have actually used a moisturiser on my face for the first time in ages.

Really must go and sort my slides aaaargh. It’s just a practice tonight BTW, actual one is tomorrow morning.

Aww weaning MC how exciting!
