Fledglings are Flying into April, there's no fooling us.......

Welcome fledglings old and new, to April's Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here Flying Lessons. Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

KCC - we don't do so many of these now, but these are little stories, photos, memes, off-topic questions, just to keep us all distracted from the general tedium of lockdown life. Feel free to chip in.

Thanks to Up for guiding us gently through March Flowers.

And off we go into April.

Huge hugs zoo remember most people are just fine from the jab maybe a bit achy and tired. The cleaning can wait a bit if needs be or the zoolets will just have to step up and manage a bit more for themselves - not a bad thing for them to start appreciating you more 💐

That argh tricky choice!

Well I haven’t had much of a lie down with Netflix and chocolate yet, because I kept getting interrupted by a stroppy 3yo and then it was dinner. But I’ll go back up after I’ve done my next list.

I’m really glad I looked at the two forms. I’m really trying to remember to break things down into easier steps. I hate forms and usually procrastinate like mad over them, so just having a quick read through both and knowing what I’ll be needing to write has made it less daunting.

PO3.5
1️⃣move current wash into dryer
2️⃣load and run DW
3️⃣clear bed - got one load of clean laundry on there but I’ll put it away with the next lot later tonight

Dancingtomusic · 17/04/2021 18:52

Zoo- oh no zoo! It will be ok.
You will be ok- hug

Ok I had the Jab
My advice
Take paracetamol as soon as you get home or in the car. Your arm maybe sore.
Continue paracetmol every 4 hours if you cant sleep.

I was stupid and didnt take paracentamol and my arm was sore. But I do think I would have felt lots better if I had taken paracetamol.

You are not alone. Its ok we are here. I think there has been a covid helpline too, I think for questions on covid.

Its ok, I will be thinking of you. You said your Jab is at 7.30pm today? Is that right? Flowers

EventuallyDistracted · 17/04/2021 19:38

Oh Zoo, sending hugs, hopefully its done now and you are OK, I second the advice about paracetamol and take it easy afterwards.

PO3.6 (I’m not sure I’ve got to this many before 😂)
1️⃣give Cagletini bath (already run before I got to clear the bed), teeth, hair, stories
2️⃣once she’s asleep, relax and watch the rest of the documentary episode I was trying to watch earlier
3️⃣sort laundry inc what’s currently in dryer and put it away

Stilllivinginazoo · 17/04/2021 20:45

I'm still alive
Had moderna, which I've no one to ask about side effects.1 in 10 chance vomiting,my worst nightmare as emetophobe so hoping I'm one of the 9 who don't!!I went with dd1 who is needle phobic.once she was being seen my nerves were so bad I was shaking like leaf which got me a covid Marshall and a community nurse trying to get me to breathe deep etc.i was so embarrassed.thats normal for me to tremble etc and I felt like I was managing it as much as I ever can but I could feel eyes in the queue boring into my head😞
The ambulance man who gave me mine was so lovely.he said in my age group long covids a huge issue so it's deffo better to have it.i kept saying toyself side effects are better than risk if covid over and over...dull ache had set in within 5mins(had wait 15 mins after.as dd1 and I bubble we were allowed drag chairs together and chat.she had that too)
At mo too nervous take even a paracetamol...I might try later

I gave her a little goodie bag of things if she feels poorly tom(iced gems, mini apricots and raisin bag, mini gingermen, twiglets,a chocolate bar and a diamond art kit)as I am glad I had some one to go with.i dont think could've done it alone

I did tidy up,didn't get any me time /shower etc in.no food prep either

We shall just have to muddle thru

That it's common place in u.s go have it.i think it's a tough call here, esp as we are going into better weather/lower rates infection.you have to do what's best for you lovelyFlowers

Thanks everyone for kind words
Much aporeciated

Iceisnice · 17/04/2021 21:35

Hello, thank you all for your messages and thoughts on my DD after her mishap. She is a lot better today, took her to the walk in centre because we were concerned that her lip might be getting worse/infected but the nurse seemed happy with it and recommended salt water wash (not witch hazel now... yikes they were brutes back in the 70's!) The nurse also recommended ice cream so that instantly made her a hero in my DD eyes!
Managed 3xlol today and have also run through my eldest DD clothes because she has had another growth spurts (must have been the holiday snacking....) and her trousers are about 2" too small. At the moment she has no trousers that fit in the leg so Monday I will be clothes shopping while grocery shopping. Thankfully asd@ have some nice new clothes in that DD approves of so hopefully it will not cost a fortune. Had a look on the m & $ website and nearly fainted at the cost. Why are kids clothes almost the cost of adults clothes?!
Hope you are all well Smile

HillsBesideTheSea · 17/04/2021 21:39

That if it helps 2 of the vaccines have been studied for safety in pregnancy so you won't be offered the astra zenaca one because it hasn't. Who website has some good advice if you want to read up. There are some other websites that also do, but also some websites that are ... .... .... muddying the waters shall we call it, and not so reliable.

I have eaten 2 pieces of toast and a bit of chocolate. My stomach still has opinions. Teenager is home. 1 load of washing is on.

SingToTheSky · 17/04/2021 23:12

Well done zoo you did it! 💖

Ice glad DD is getting better 💐 must have been so scary!

I’ve managed my last power of three. Shattered. Pleased I’ve got stuff done today though, nothing massive but lots of little tasks I would’ve put off.

Caglets are having one last holiday sleepover in the living room since DD1 is back to school on Monday. They’re both giggling over Harry Potter videos on YouTube!

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 18/04/2021 00:02

Thanks hills i'm back at the mw in two weeks so i will aim to see what they are advising i think, although i do think our area are still doing the 50s group so as i say probably wouldnt get to me anyway

Dancingtomusic · 18/04/2021 07:51

That good idea to ask the mv
Sing- weldone for getting thru you po3s.
Aww your kids sleepover sounds fun!
Ice- that is a great nurse to recommended icecream for your dd.
I agree, kids clothes are so expensive. I wish they did kids clothes in bigger sizes. I have young kids that are big sized. They still want paw patrol things.
zoo- how are you feeling today?
Half- how is your lip today?
hills- hows your stomach today?
Up- Do you have more ideas on what you will plant at the front of your house?

Yestadas
🔫Forgot wet uniform in washing machine 🤦‍♀️ as 'D'h barked at 12pm - you better get your Cv done as you will miss this job.
🔫Made sandwiches for everyone.
🔫Sat and typed for 1.5hours- found a old cover letter i could copy bits off.
🔫Dh got very offended i couldnt work with him showing the kids stupid cat videos.
🔫Got as far as i could. Showered- dressed. Went for a bike ride in the countryside. It was beautiful. Havent been for ages.
🔫Came back, Cooked, Fed kids- vision was going blurry in right eye corner, Put kids infront of paw patrol on tv.
🔫7.30pm started typing as fast i could before my vision got worse. Thankfully, my vision cleared up and worked on moving my Cv from wordpad to word- it changed the formatting so I had to try and figure out how to move words and paragraphs back to normal sizes. That was like being back at work again as I regularly used to make worksheets and try to sqeeze information on one sheet.
🔫8.30pm I sent this version to my brother to proof read. I asked is this one better he said its different to the other one.
🔫 I did profile, transferable skills, work experience, qualifications, hobbies/interestes, references available on request.
My brother said there were some really boring bits he has highlighted in red.
🔫emailed it to Dh. Who later mentioned in passing 'your cv looks much better this time- i will check it more tomo.'

Todo-
-put white washing on.

  • unpack and wash fridays lunchbags 😕
  • make pack lunches
-get uniforms ready -bath both kids- (oh no think we are out of shampoo)
  • make a shopping list for dh to moan about...3 loaves of bread in one week-
(i wanted to shout- piss off!)
  • maybe go get fresh air at park
  • finish cv and get application done and dusted by end of today (just remembered where all my certificates might be!)
  • tidy the kitchen

🍒sunday 👋everyone. Waders, foxes, hazel, red, Sc, double, Mc, (forgive me if I forgot anyone. ) Hope you are doing something nice today!

Redsquirrel5 · 18/04/2021 08:44

Morning all,

Zoo well done for getting jab. Hope you don’t get any side effects. My aching was in the elbow joints Not site at all. It went after about three days. Lovely gift for you DD1 and a great idea. They still like surprises.

Hills hope stomach improves soon.

Sing great work. I like Power of Three too. Not so daunting.

That Midwife then your decision. Not sure what I would do in your position.

Redsquirrel5 · 18/04/2021 09:11

Ooo your post came up after I posted weird. Maybe still on same page from earlier read but you would think it would refresh after being off.

Great list Dancing DH used to say crappy things about shopping. I was a real bargain finder and did give them occasional treats but really tried to keep shopping in check. DH complained once after looking at bank statement so fed up of other food related digs I turned around and said. “I tell you what I won’t feed myself and the kids while your away.” Two of the boys were standing there. It shut him up for a bit. I didn’t bother to answer for a while when he rang. He didn’t like that because he had no way of knowing how we were. Mine used to go through a loaf a day. Men are ridiculous sometimes Dancing.

Having a cosy lie in and I have tea. DH isn’t up he does sometimes bring me a cup of tea now. This morning I woke earlier and thought I would use Teasmade. No milk but I have a little jar and keep a variety of tea bags in it. Earl Grey this morning.

Just plan to go to church then be in the garden. I have a tiny bargain of turkey breast to roast. Might make a tart as I have blackcurrants (freezer) and Bramleys
I might clean out the old greenhouse in preparation for the new one going up this week. We could do with swapping a slab too. Excited about this new venture.
I plan to make a bug hotel. I have sorted some wood so hope to start that today and tidy up herb garden.

Do three things you enjoy today.

SingToTheSky · 18/04/2021 09:30

Morning. I haven’t got out of bed yet. Will need to plod downstairs soon to watch the DC while DH goes to the shop for milk. I’m wiped. 😴 Not sure I’m even up for a power of three yet! I do definitely need to work on my presentation later though, and try and make a vague list for DS’ first week back to home ed

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/04/2021 09:52

Didn't go sleep til near 2
Just finally woke up properly!(have had a few really bad night sleep,so thinking I'm playing catch up)
No one's up(no suprise)D's fed kits a kibble mountain last night,so no indignant screams for breakfast yet...scoutcat rocks up in the mornings when he's called,so he needs letting in and feeding
Will find out how I feel once start moving- I always have joint pain etc when waking so it masks everything til I start moving around!🤣
Dancing my lot eat a loaf a day plus roll/wraps(3teens) we could give your dh a heart attack the amount they plough thru!

Dancingtomusic · 18/04/2021 12:55

Red- hiya sorry crossed post
Men def are 😖
I love your teas made idea! Aww new green house sounds fun to plan.

Sing- good you are going to start planning.

Zoo- glad you are up. Kids enjoy bread. Its a fact. He would faint.

Tinhat alert !

Dh lost his shit...as I remade my Cv...he said Why Did You Do That! I only told you to expand on your work experience.

I have cleaned the kitchen so I stayed out of the way while he tried to sort my Cv.

I am hiding in bathroom now. Going to bath the kids.

I really feel like using a stale baugettue to whallop him one if he mentions the amount of bread eaten.

HillsBesideTheSea · 18/04/2021 13:41

The correct response is: if i do not get this job i need a cv that will allow me to apply for other jobs. Also the required format for cvs has changed in the last two years and if you have not submitted a cv in that time you do not know wtaf you are talking about anymore you complete and utter twat.
Also: btw I applied for job x today (insert job that is not the one he is pushing)

Obviously you are a better person than I Dancing

Stomach is a little better and tollerated toast and marmite this lunchtime. Slept through my alarm and my brain is foggy atm. I am about to grab some more toast, another coffee and go sit in my car office on the drive as I am procrastinating atm. Blush

HillsBesideTheSea · 18/04/2021 13:41

Zoo hope you are feeling ok since you got moving.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 18/04/2021 15:01

Hi everyone, just checking in to say I've been reading a little but not keeping up on replying much, hope all okay. Enjoyed the sunshine today, we've been in the garden. Swimming lessons starting today so got to get back into that routine!

I'll try and pop by every now and then, the kitchen is still a huge work in progress !

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/04/2021 16:51
StillUpholding · 18/04/2021 20:06

So glad you’re doing ok so far Zoo! Fingers crossed it lasts.

Dancing, choose yourself a weapon from That’s admirable selection and we’ll be right behind you armed with the rest I can think of somewhere else to put that baguette Well done on powering through and getting it done while being nagged. Glad you got out for an enjoyable bike ride. Still no further forward on the plant selecting. I think a garden centre trip is in order.

Impressive power of three-ing Sing!

My ta Das from yesterday and today
🧼 downstairs all dusted, hoovered and mopped
🧼 sticky finger prints removed from downstairs windows and tv Hmm
🧼 upstairs dusted
🧼 epic tidy of DD’s room
🧼 both beds stripped and remade
🧼 bathroom floor cleaned properly on hands and knees
🧼 raced round and did a 3 minute tidy in all rooms
🧼 ironing
🧼 bags and food sorted for tomorrow
🧼 parcel sorted to be returned
🧼 ordered new toilet seat after ours cracked

DH is currently doing bedtime and I’m about to update my diary now that we actually have some things planned - a few short breaks I think I’ve mentioned, a local festival thing I’ve bought tickets for with friends, a farm visit for DD’s birthday. I’m so excited 😆. Once he comes down we have to tackle our wills. We got free ones with the new life insurance as we’ve never got round to sorting it, and quelle surprise, we’ve procrastinated over it and it’s approaching the deadline. Wish me luck!

Dancingtomusic · 18/04/2021 20:47

Up- goodluck!

Omg 🤣🤣🤣 at your responses.....i was trying get kids asleep and i started shaking with laughter.....
Thank you
