Thanks for the welcome everyone 🙂
DownUdderer I like your cupboard. I have one similar but larger, I turned it into a room with a desk/chair/drawers, plus a chair and side table for books/tea. I was determined not to turn it into a huge junk space. Congrats on clearing yours out.
I'm wondering where people stand on the issue of the environment? It's something I feel strongly about. I really really dislike waste. I think things that can be used should be used. So I have a real problem throwing things away.
My dilemma is this. With the exception of my clothes (which is a whole subject in itself, we're not going there!) I have a tidy home. I'm very inventive with storage, creating space where it first appears to be none left. A place for everything and everything in its place. But - I have a lot of stuff. Too much honestly. I've identified a pile of things I'd like to dispose of. I've gone through all the emotional detachment of being able to let it go, finally. It can't be recycled or donated. There's nothing wrong with it, it can be used, it's just I don't need it. Ideally I'd sell it all and have sold some of it.
My question is this. What do I do with the stuff that remains unsold? I've recently sold a few pieces which I'd been trying to sell for a year. Ideally I don't want to be keeping stuff around for that long once I've decided it can go. I find it immensely annoying to have people coming over, messing me around with timing and no-shows and I'm not prepared to do that if they're not giving me money, at least £5, so giving stuff away isn't an option. The obvious solution is landfill, but this doesn't align with my environment beliefs.
Do you all have some ingenious solutions for storing stuff until it's sold? Am I setting too much store by the environment, using it for an excuse? Do I need to accept that if most people don't want to buy something then despite how useful it could be, it's truthfully effectively useless due to being unwanted? I feel confused. I have a friend who would hire a skip, toss the lot in and some more besides just to fill it up, then send it away without a moment's thought. I was quite shocked when I found out they do this. It's got me wondering if I'm wrong with my approach of keeping things out of landfill no matter what. I should probably make clear I'm not hoarding other people's cast offs, this is all stuff I bought and used but no longer need.
